"There won't be any more referendums or elections until 2024 " thank god for that. An election in 2015,then2017,then2019 and a referendum in 2016.... 4times within 5 years is ridiculous. The people are sick and have now shown this this time round. Perhaps common sense will now prevail. Although I can't see it on here.

"In my reading of this as an outsider, possibly misinformed, this is the third vote since Brexit first came up (including the referendum) and not once has there been anything like a majority opposing Brexit. Quite the opposite, this last vote seems like the strongest mandate yet from the British people to leave the EU. So really the only outcome here that respects democracy in any way is to leave, not keep voting on it. Yes it's unfortunate if you want UK to stay in EU. It might even be unfortunate if you want the UK to stay intact, but no one can argue that it's not what the people want." couldn’t of put it better myself

You cannot take a first past the post general election result and twist it into a vote for vote referendum result. If people are so intent on finding out the publics opinion on ONE subject then do it properly and hold a referendum. If their scared of losing a referendum then they'll probably continue to class a first past the post general election result as a referendum.

I'm not saying we should have another referendum on EU membership at all and never have. What I am pointing out is a lot of leavers like to point to different election results and say that's more results that back Brexit, which is spurious at best and if their so desperate to have election results they can point at that says the country still wants Brexit then do it properly and have a referendum on that ONE question.

"It's a dead argument now. It's too late. " Yes that's true so it'd help if they stopped arguing that other elections meant different results and be happy now and move on.

"Keep up!! Who needs to keep up and about what? " People who wonder about a second referendum . They need to keep up with what happened yesterday and what it means in reality. A bit like asking whether Corbyn should resign lol

"... If their scared of losing a referendum then they'll probably continue to class a first past the post general election result as a referendum. " I don't have a horse in this race, but as I understand it, British politics has never been about referenda and a mandate always comes in the form of a first-past-the-post vote. So whatever happened in the referendum, when Boris campaigns on the basis of getting brexit done and wins a big majority, then surely that is as good a mandate as anyone will get, in the British political tradition.

"This general election has been the 2nd people's vote. It was a thumping endorsement of the first. Politicians should reflect on this when they are even contemplating going against the will of the people in the future. " Exactly

" This is exactly the point I'm making, people taking just ONE aspect of a multi aspect multi party election and stating that this ONE aspect is the entire cause of all the votes that party gained to win. I guess if it makes people feel better believing this then crack on, don't let common sense get in the way

You've used a FPTP parliamentary system to endorse a Yes/No referendum? By vote count, 52.35% voted for parties that wanted a 2nd referendum. Also, a significant number of people voted Tory simply because they didn't like Corbyn and not because the endorsed Brexit.
