"I'd love to hear why somebody wants to vote Tory after watching this." Well I'm not voting Tory anyhow but that's definitely not because of some guy shouting and swearing on YouTube. The biggest problem with the anti-Tory campaign, and especially the Labour campaign, is that it says absolutely nothing to appeal at all to people other than those that were never likely to vote Tory anyhow.

"What choices ...or the great jc...or a pointless woman. one trick pony who waves her arms about ....if ya Scottish the poison dwarf....choices choices" Well you could always vote for a millionaire ex-commodity broker who takes a wage and a pension from the EU....oh, but wait a minute, he isn’t standing...for tactical reasons rather than because he never gets elected to parliament.

"Watched the video... and I’ll still be voting conservatives In Dundee?? " Why not Dundee? About 25 to 30% of Scots are Tories. It's too many but it's not the same rate of infection you have in England. As far as voting Tory goes, those who do are beyond help, they have no empathy or conscience. This video, accurate though it is, won't change their minds. If you're undecided about who to vote for, have a right good think, examine your conscience and make sure you do vote on Thursday. It really does matter.

The Tories keep pushing the myth that Labour bankrupted the country. There was actually a global recession caused by bankers being greedy arseholes everywhere.

" Actually, if you are on the right, Gordon Brown was probably one of the best chancellors ever. He managed to bail out the banks to the tune of billions and still keep the country from going through a massive recession (in the style of the wall street crash). I'm not, so I'd have much preferred an "Iceland" style solution.

With unemployment being at at all time low as a result of Conversative policies , it is probably the only party anyone should vote for. This is one of the reasons why I won't vote for the current Labour party, along with the others I've mentioned in other threads. They totally refuse to take any responsibility for the problems they helped to create. They were in power and they were responsible for the regulatory regime that allowed the banks to trade the way they did. A lot of people on here and elsewhere talk about the Conservatives trying to avoid ownership of the total mess the country is in after 9 years and a shambles of a brexit policy, they go on ad nauseam about what Thatcher did nearly 30 years, give the LibDems down the banks for going into government, but when it comes to Labour's disasters, and 2007/8 was a disaster brought about by lack of proper regulatory control, suddenly it's all someone else's fault, or this new Old Labour isn't the same as the old New Labour, or it was the bankers or the world or somebody and anybody but definitely not Labour's fault. FFS start taking some responsibility.

The gold reserves is always brought up and it was always a mystery why he sold it off. If you like beer and gin though dont forget that he enabled the new brewing revolution by changing the taxation system to favour small local producers - the second best thing he ever did after saving the banking system imho.

A banker with all their experience of the banking system offers a product to someone who is fundamentally a poor risk and who may not be aware of or able to understand the risk implications of what they are signing up to? Come on Pat, your desperation to suck up to the elites you hero worship is quite honestly a bit sad. However you look at it, the people who were selling sub prime mortgages were cavalier if not criminal and the bankers who created the product were abdicating their professional responsibility. You are always so keen to blame the poor for being stupid rather than the rich for screwing them over....a white collar (or should that be pink in the case of so many bankers) crook is still a crook....its just their fingernails are a bit more manicured.

The last time Labour were in the economy was doing well, the world banking crash was the major thing that caused a recession and that had nothing to do with Labours policies. But sure, let's ignore that and also ignore how debt has tripled under the Tories and yet how the only ones benefitting are the rich.

The Tories keep pushing the myth that Labour bankrupted the country. There was actually a global recession caused by bankers being greedy arseholes everywhere. But it's not an old chestnut. Interesting point really given the boom it brought on - maybe Gordon Brown didn’t understand how deceitful and avaricious the bankers could really be? The gold reserves is always brought up and it was always a mystery why he sold it off. If you like beer and gin though dont forget that he enabled the new brewing revolution by changing the taxation system to favour small local producers - the second best thing he ever did after saving the banking system imho. Most bankers are just ordinary people doing an ordinary job. If you are looking for people to blame fit the crisis , it lies firmly with those who took out loans that they could not afford to repay. Instead of blaming bankers , blame is firmly with borrowed who borrowed too much. Despite all this we still see business men blaming the banks for their woes. They appeared to fail to realise that overdrafts are relatable on them and that in many cases companies quoted in the FTSE can already provide the services that they provided. Sorry? " The bankers simply marketed the products concerned . If you are trying to pass off blame , surely that falls on solicitors who should have explained the terms and conditions of the loans . The reality is that no one could foresee the banking crisis so you can hardly blame the bankers . It is always easy to pass blame after the event with the benefit of hindsight.

The banking crisis was a direct result of sub prime mortgages being offered by banks to people who could not afford them. The solicitors responsibilities are to make the transaction legally binding. Lending money in an unrestricted manner to inflate sales and increase profits for the banks led to RBS massively over stretching itself and having to be bailed out by the taxpayer. At the time bankers were simply providing a service and plenty of people wanted to take them up on their offers. These were reputable plcs and building societies. The small print of every single loan taken out would have clearly explained the consequences of defaulting. The issue is that when the tide turns it does so very rapidly and it is by then too late to take corrective action. Bankers are no different to any other profession. They are simply providing a service and no one is required to use them. Ultimately the blame can only rely with those who defaulted on their loans.

" I have credited Brown with being instrumental in galvanising world finance in to taking the action necessary to avoid a possible world depression on other threads in the past, and I have also pointed out that, at the time immediately before the crash, the Conservatives were pushing further deregulation of the banking system. But none of that excuses Brown or Labour from being responsible for the regulatory framework that was in place and, because UK is one of the leading financial centres of the world, that inadequate regulatory framework was directly responsible for the banking crisis. Labour has to take responsibility, ownership and be accountable of its mistakes.

"Austerity came from the last Labour government emptying the piggy bank. If you want more of the same, maybe worse, then vote labour and watxch them wreck the economy. Lol. I wonder how many people believe shite like this? 30 seconds on Google would bust this myth." The plans for austerity were made by Alistair Darling in 2007/8 and Labour went into both the election in 2010 and 2015 with policies of austerity. In fact in 2010 Darling's austerity program was even harder than the program being put forward by the Conservatives. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2010/mar/25/alistair-darling-cut-deeper-margaret-thatcher

Why do you blame Labor. Blame the Tory idiots for this big mess. Oh wait. Why am I writing this? You won't understand anyway " It's not about blame; it's about taking responsibility for decisions being made while in government and being held accountable. Just like we're now trying to do with Johnson. It works both ways.

There was and is a stupid contradiction at the heart of lending to governments. You are offered low borrowing rates if you promise to cut spending. Unfortunately having made a global decision to bail out the banking sector, the borrowed money was committed to that. Labour had to look tougher to achieve the same result due to perception. I suspect, but impossible to prove, that they would have opened the taps earlier. On your main point though, the only party that has taken any responsibility for their decisions is the LibDems. What have you learned from that?

I keep saying it's a shame labour didn't win in 2010. It would have been fun seeing how they dealt with the crisis. Bit like most normal left of centre governments would be my guess. I dont know why I'm always surprised people still believe this tripe. It was a global financial crash, not a UK financial crash and as much credit as you try and give labour for that, it really doesn't change the fact that the problems started in the US banks.
