"Get Brexit done"

Some people don't seem to realise the slogan is essentially a lie. If the Tories get in, they won't just wave a magic wand and "get Brexit done". Even if they actually make Brexit happen, that will only be the start of years of torturous negotiations with the EU.

The whole Brexit saga will go on and on for years if the Tories get in.

I'd happily admit to copying a quote if I knew about it. For instance "Get Brexit done" is a moronic and misleading quote of the Tories.

Just out if interest, does the OP believe that if Labour get in, it will be sorted in different time scale?

Or any coalition of parties will be able to sort it sooner?

The Lib dem policy of revoke would be faster if they got a mandate for it. They won't, though. They seem to be doing v badly.

Labour's policy has been laid out, step by step. It should be faster than the years of dragged out Brexit shit the Tories would bring. I don't think they'll get in either.

I think the Tories will win. And I think we'll have years more of Brexit dominating everything.

Maybe OP is suggesting that if the best Brexit deal is a crappy deal where we come off second best we should have to option to back out.

This is far better than making a decision which seemed like a good idea at the time but was probably the wrong one but we're going to push ahead with that wrong decision because not to would be to admit we were wrong.

The best deal seems to be no Brexit at all. The whole Brexit saga has been a huge waste of time and money.

Considering that many people voted Leave because we were promised getting a great deal going to be the easiest trade negotiation ever, and since this is clearly not the case, we should see whether everyone still feels the same now that we are all wiser.

That sounds sane. So I'm sure people will soon pop up on this thread to say how crazy it is.

Stupid slogan,

Bullshit Boris would be happy with the chaos as long as he and the tories can cling to power. This election has been made out to be about brexit.

It’s really about the tories wanting to stay in power

Let's assume Parliament approves the Withdrawl Agreement and it comes into effect on Jan 31.

That takes UK into the transition phase.

This terminates on Dec 31, 2020.

The reason for this date is the EU enters its next 7-year spending cycle on Jan 1, 2021.

So there will be 11 months for the UK to agree all the bilaterals, including trade, and put in place the internal controls between GB and NI.

It all promises to be a right mess.

Are we having a general election skewed by the Brexit issue or are we having a second referendum in the disguise of a general election? Hmmmmmmm.

I have to admit that I find it confusing that the same party that didn't get it done for three years is touting their abilty to get it done as their strong point. If Boris had any sense of shame he'd be scared to even mention the word.

No. It would still be a cluster fuck. But that's Brexit. People voted for it and now it's happening. Doesn't matter who is in charge.

It's just funny that the party who has been busy not getting Brexit done. Have a slogan "get Brexit done".

Brexit should have been got done the day after the referendum , the abject inept incompetence of a government that calls a referendum with no idea of what to do if option b wins instead option a is staggeringly unbelievable , but people are still believing the get brexit done slogan , being trotted out by the current leader of the same party who called the referendum and has held a majority in parliament since referendum day , who himself voted against getting brexit done after the party he was a minister of negotiated a deal with the EU ,,( brexit means brexit )

The day after the referendum?!?!

We were told, before the referendum, that it would take a minimum of five years to extract the UK from the EU. It was written off as "project fear" by those campaigning to leave.

As it stands. It looks like it's going to take a lot longer than five years.

As for the incompetence of the current government. I agree. Especially Boris, who voted against the deal, then renamed it and asked his party to vote for it. Comical.

. Yes , the very next day ,,,,After the referendum result , the Prime Minister should have said "this is the plan" ,instead he resigned , handing over to someone else who didn't have a plan before she came up with a plan that the current prime minister voted against ( it was their own plan !!!!!) ,,this is where Corbyn's idea actually works , a deal is negotiated then we have the choice of actually knowing what we are voting for , then on the very next day , instead of resigning ,he accepts the result , whichever side wins ,,but the trick is ( which the Tories completely failed to grasp ) is that as a government you have to be ready for either side winning the vote ( from day 1) not to spend three years of dither and delay

I completely agree.

Except there is far too much to prepare for, leaving in one day just isn't realistic by any measure.

What should have happened, the day after the referendum result. Each party should have presented their plan for brexit (or not, in the case of Lib Dems), had their plan agreed upon by the EU (there by making it realistic). Then we could have a GE to determine which plan would be used to leave.

Absolutely. Cameron called the original Brexit referendum to deal with Tory rebels. He failed and ran away. The Tories then spent years fucking everything up and failing to deliver Brexit. Now they're campaigning, saying they can deliver Brexit.

What should have happened, the day after the referendum result. Each party should have presented their plan for brexit (or not, in the case of Lib Dems), had their plan agreed upon by the EU (there by making it realistic). Then we could have a GE to determine which plan would be used to leave."

. Yes , fair point , I realise too much to actually leave on day one but at least put plans in motion ( even then it could take months/years ) but least the direction of travel would be known ,,although your point about a GE ,I can appreciate ,but i think on just the one issue it should be a referendum , as it could be that you like Party A brexit/or not brexit plan but prefer Party B plans for running the country ,,,although a fan of Corbyn's idea of a new negotiated deal , followed by a confirmitary referendum ,I hope he learns from the catastrophic mistakes of the conservative party and when he sends over his "team" there are representatives from other parties taking part in the negotiations , I appreciate this may add initial complications but it is what should have happened immediately following the 2017 general election ,let them get a deal , let us have a vote and get it done with

"Stupid slogan,

Bullshit Boris would be happy with the chaos as long as he and the tories can cling to power. This election has been made out to be about brexit.

It’s really about the tories wanting to stay in power

Are we having a general election skewed by the Brexit issue or are we having a second referendum in the disguise of a general election? Hmmmmmmm.

I have to admit that I find it confusing that the same party that didn't get it done for three years is touting their abilty to get it done as their strong point. If Boris had any sense of shame he'd be scared to even mention the word.

It is incredibly ironic, isn't it? Vote for the Tories who failed to get Brexit done for 3 years! Why? So they can get Brexit done!

I must remember this for future interviews.....

So Mr. maycontainfullnuts why should we give you this contract?

Because I fucked up every single aspect of the last one without leaving one single aspect unfucked.

Well it sounds like you are just the right person for the job....

Is it possible to order those "Get Brexit Done" mugs online?

I want one.

But it must say "we couldn't" in front.

"

Maybe get some made that reveal the "we couldn't" bit when you fill the mug up with hot tea?

(Yorkshire tea, obvs. not any of that Chinese muck!)

Fair enough.

But it's good to remind people that a relatively small portion of the population actually voted for brexit.

I have to put my hand up as guilty as charged. I didn't vote in the referendum because it was my first day in a new contract. As one of them I only have myself to blame for not voting.

The reason Trump got elected was because as brainless as he was, he kept saying simple slogans over and over and over . Corbyn had sweet "F" all to do with the Brexit negotiations so I have no idea what you mean.
