Yes, there was a survey during the Tory leadership election of party members.

For the majority, Brexit was more important than staying together with either Scotland or Northern Ireland.

In other words, they'd be willing to break up the United Kingdom in order to break up the European Union.

It is now demonstrably the party of English nationalism.

That is right they did that survey and a vote for the torys is a break up for the union.

The Times had a curious story about that.

How English migrants living in Wales had tipped the outcome from Remain to Leave.

Yes it didnt make sense how they voted as they get the most funds from the eu.

Might do.

Is it a big deal if it does?

Any negatives from the UK breaking up would be a minor blip compared to Brexit.

Brexit is about smashing up the structures that govern us.

It is driven by English nationalism.

Northern Ireland has been riven with nationalism for decades and now Scotland is, too.

England is starting to catch up.

And once the genie is out the bottle . . .

Be much easier all round if rural England left the EU, moved the capital to somewhere appropriate like Yorkshire and let the UK stay in led by London, with rail links between there and Remain Cities like Manchester. It would work quite well as the trains wouldn't have to stop in all the shitty small towns, so travel times would decrease as well.

Maybe we could have Northumbria, Mercia, Wessex, East Anglia, Essex, Kent & Sussex. England isn’t unified, so why stop at breaking up the UK?

Many of these counties will not be economically self sefficient. This will give a rise to a peasants style revolt .

Imagine hordes of chavs dressed in Sports Direct attire rampaging across the counties seeking an Adidas or Nike town store to pillgage.

The Kingdom of Yugoslavia disintegrated into 8 separate states.

How many might spin out of the UK?

We could have a sweepstake.

England is not united anymore than the UK is, so what is the merit in supporting the UK breakup? Do you want a return to local Barons - what possible merit is there in local nationalism (if that is even possible!)

lol .

As far as I’m concerned thier are 4 country’s , England , Scotland , Wales , N Ireland or Ireland depending on your point of view .

They all have counties so I don’t know why people compare an English county , say yorkshire to say Wales ?

Possibly 5 , Historrically Cornwall has seen itself as a country !

Please don’t mistake me for a racist fascist ( not saying you have ) but I do see myself as an English Nationalist !

Yes, I'm sure that is true.

England is going the way of Scotland and Northern Ireland before it.

None is homogenous, all are prone to ethnic and nationalistic conflict.

George Robertson in 2014 warn a Yes vote would lead to the Balkanisation of Britain.

I'd say England is now infected as well as Scotland and Ireland.

Not exactly the action of a party desperate to brexit at any cost I believe

Well yes, the Conservative Party is riven between the One Nation moderates, who believe in both unions, and the militant tendency, the UKIP infiltrators, who'd happily just smash everything up.

There is another way.

Well, technically, anyway.

Under EU rules, any member state can remove some of its territory from EU jurisdiction.

Think of Denmark, for example - two of the three constituent territories that make up Denmark sit outside the EU.

The UK could do the same under EU rules.

It could remove England and Wales from EU jurisdiction.

The UK membership of the EU would consist only of Scotland and NI.

Technically, that is possible. EU law allows it.

What does not allow it is the constitutional structure of the UK.

If the UK was a federation of member states, yes it could happen.

It's not, though - control and sovereignty is so highly centralised within the UK that it does not have the constitutional flexibility to adjust.

It's an all-or-nothing approach, albeit with some flexing to give NI a foot in both camps.

Actually were it not for the supreme court and the Benn act we would have crashed out on 31 October with no deal.

Tories can't claim credit for that since they did everything including the attempted undermining of the democratic process to stop it.

Just pretend you a Bojo backer who stands to gain several million pound dependent on Brexit because you have shorted the pound.

Now.

Are you worried about the union?

There's your answer.

I remember a cartoon where in every frame a map gets more and more borders as if it's cracking up. The last frame shows the map as the cracked up pieces as a pile on the floor.

How does the saying go? United we stand but divided we fall.

I guess we'll all go down together

There are millions of non-Tories who don't care about the Union, too.

The main problem is that, even if the UK doesn't break up, Brexit means it's never going to be united again, as it once was, for decades.

Why? Too many people think those who voted the opposite way to how they did over Brexit themselves are just cunts.

That sort of prejudice lasts for a very long time.
