As a supporter of PR or percentage voting . I’m becoming more and more convinced that a huge portion of the voting public just don’t realise that so many votes just don’t count for anything under our first past the post system !

Well electoral reform is a key issue for labour and the smaller parties, and PR is being discussed as a means to get representative democracy. But you know whom you would need to vote for if that was to happen.

I'm sure my vote will count. In the constiunacy I live we will have either a Conservative or Lib Dem mp so if I vote for one of them my vote will definitely count.

If anyone votes for any other party it will still count towards that party's votes but won't make any difference to who becomes the Pm. The voter knows that so that helps them to decide who to vote for.

Every vote counts, I believe its our duty to vote.

At least in the referendum which was PR !!!

Every vote counted to make remain Second !

Of course it suits both main parties not to change the system so they can just taking it in turns to run the country.

Here's an interesting piece in the guardian. Yeah yeah. I know it's a shitty news paper but. The headline supports the OPs assertion that it's pointless voting in some places is pointless. (I don't necessarily agree). But I was surprised how long some seats have been held.

Was on radio today saying it’s hard to tell by the opinion polls as they are done on percentage !

One side could be ten points ahead but the votes could all be stacked in places they don’t need them !

It may do our democracy good in the long run if the loser wins as in America !

I think we would see some new party’s tho as it would make it worth it .

The other thing people neglect to say tho is that it means you can vote for anyone !

You don’t need them to stand in your area .

I’d Vote SNP !

My vote will count for absolutely NOTHING! The incumbent MP was a Theresa yes-man, is now a Boris yes-man, has promised to deport EU citizens who don’t register in time (presumably, non-EU immigrants and illegals will be allowed to stay?).

With no BREXIT candidate standing, he’ll get in by a landslide.

It won’t stop me voting against him though, and I’d still rather have a first-past-the-post system which encourages a stable government. The alternative, with lots of smaller parties clubbing together and forming little cliques, invites chaos. Italy has had more than 60 governments since WWII, and the last three years in the UK gives an idea of what would happen if PR were introduced.

That is up by 38% from the 2.3 million in a similar period before the 2017 election.

About two-thirds of new applications are from those aged 34 and under. Younger people have been shown in recent polls to be more likely to vote Labour, Liberal Democrat or Green.

For so long as people continue to read newspapers whose owners have a vested interest in presenting a view that benefits themselves and not their readers, this shall continue to be the case.

One day people will think "Would this rich person allow one good story about a person who threatens his wealth?". But this would require thinking.

There's no perfect system but I think it's likely that we'll need to move to PR soon. There's obviously pressure to retain the status quo and it suits me conservatives to stay as now.

There's some recognition amongst the public but probably low buy-in to the idea.

There's probably been a big effect of turning the people off voting in constituencies that never change, which is sad if valid
