"Oh Jeremy Corbyn suggesting nationalising British Steel makes him a communist. Meanwhile the government allows a British Steel plant to be sold to China, an actual communist country. Welcome to the mad world of British politics." The Chinese are building power stations too. Ones of questionable design and will likely mean expensive lecky bills

"Bloody communists owning all our infrastructure. It’s the long game China plays .. Why can't we build our own power stations is my point. , " Ideology, basically. Britain's state-owned industry designed and built lots of nuclear power plant. The Conservatives in the 1980s didn't want state ownership of any industry, so they gave it all away. Britain hasn't built a nuclear power plant since. Now Britain needs new nuclear power plant. But Britain has lost the know-how. State-owned industry is building them again. This time, industry owned by the states of France and China. You and I will be paying through the nose for the electricity they produce. The "contract for difference" guarantees their owners a long-term return, irrespective of the market price. The profits will subsidise customers in France and China. You really could not make it up.
