Tory response to Doncaster floods

Finally! It’s taken almost a week to realise this is a major disaster.

People have lost so much now, and the PM is more concerned about his campaign than dealing with this crisis.

This is what happens in a Tory government, the north again neglected!

And people are still going to keep them in power what a joke!

It's common sense. And you'd get free water once out in it, a godsend if you are on a water meter.

"He was spot on with what he said about if it happened in Surrey. In my humble opinion. "

And yet people are still going to vote Tory in the north, in five years time the north will be underfunded again flood defences will still not be fixed, and we’ll have another election and the tories will still win.

This is what probably annoys the most the north is always neglected, for so many years whilst the south east prospers.

The north is underfunded no matter what party is in power. When Blair and the Brown held the purse strings did you see anything different?

Yeah more so then, the north was far better new hospitals, more police, surestart, paid for going to college, they were about to upgrade the trans pennine then the tories came in and scrapped everything. So the tories can GFT for I care

The north is bitter this winter. Even more so when the lazy snobby tories look down on all of us.

Isn't the 1st response supposed to come from the council? and if they cant cope they then ask the government for emergency help.Last i looked doncaster council had 43 labour Councillors to the tories 3.Corbyn is on the back foot and its shameful to use these poor people effected as a election gimmick.

Who was supposed to invest in the flood defences that’s central government deal, local government have had their budgets cut to the bone. Even the NFU said the defences were in adequate, they reported this in 2012, and then nothing.

This ain’t a political football, this is negligence, at a governmental level.

In the future we are going to see wetter winters and drier summers.

The response was inadequate, not enough police or firemen to help in the effort.

All I see is Tory failure, Tory indecisiveness, and Tory mismanagement in this whole debacle.

But many are going to still vote for them, over some stupid question about if we stay in a club or leave it. It’s not important!

People on the ground are wondering where the justice in their day to day lives have gone, and many of you are just being conned in to keeping a bunch of liars and cheats in power.

So go vote Tory, vote for them and suffer with the consequences!

It's certainly fake news in terms of funding already set for the next couple of years, South Yorkshire and the Humber were already top of the committed spend according to the latest report from Sky News.....

But that was not what I quoted, I was talking about the additional emergency funding Corbyn was demanding. The Tories approved it 3 days ago.

And if Labour hadn't nearly bankrupted the country then austerity would ever have been necessary in the first place. There is no magic money tree, floods will always happen, north, south, east and west.

Flood defence funds are allocated to the areas where they will benefit the most people.

That's why cities win, and the rural countryside villages lose.

It’s interesting the Tory narrative on austerity, that they needed to do it, that labour bankrupted the country, they really didn’t, did you feel the debt burden they were talking about? Did you feel worse off? I’ve seen what unnecessary cut do.

And I am still saying this, the north suffers, the south prospers. More money is invested there, it’s been like this since thatcher, and it continues onwards.

And what do you mean about the phrase “you people?” Another way the southerners like to laud it over everyone .

I would say it probably has become more obvious in the last 10 years. I’ll stand corrected, but haven’t extreme weather events and flooding become more frequent in that time? A cynic might even go as far as to say climate change is playing a part.

I’m pretty sure I saw Corbyn quote historical spending figures for different parts of the country.

Is like Liz Truss blaming the state of the economy in 2008 on Labour, but blaming the current state of the economy on external global factors?

"Finally! It’s taken almost a week to realise this is a major disaster.

No, the response was 3 days ago, they just didn't try to make it into a political football.

Would you go as far as saying that no opposition party should b critical of a government’s apparent failings, for fear of turning an issue into ”a political football”?

Nope. But on this occasion they didn't fail - it's fake news.

Is it fake news about funding for flood prevention falling in recent years in the north, whilst funding for flood prevention in the south has increased?

It's certainly fake news in terms of funding already set for the next couple of years, South Yorkshire and the Humber were already top of the committed spend according to the latest report from Sky News.....

But that was not what I quoted, I was talking about the additional emergency funding Corbyn was demanding. The Tories approved it 3 days ago.

3 days it should have been done years ago not for the next couple of years 2012 they said the defences were not good, funny that the tight-fisted tories open their purses when they want to win people’s votes.

God do you people not read anything...it was the ADDITIONAL emergency money that they were accusing the Gov of not providing. It was approved 3 days ago.

And if Labour hadn't nearly bankrupted the country then austerity would ever have been necessary in the first place. There is no magic money tree, floods will always happen, north, south, east and west.

And what do you mean about the phrase “you people?” Another way the southerners like to laud it over everyone ."

Who says I'm a southerner? And 'you people' was an entirely different category, nothing to do with geography...

Haha they do it every time!! Some of us are old enough to remember the strikes, the bodies piling up in the morgues, the rats and the stench of the mountains of rubbish piled up in the street, the blackouts, the 3 day week.... total disaster, every single time, one way or another.

Every single time? So how many times did you experience that? How long ago was that? And has anything changed since then?

Not rhetorical questions.

the 3 day week and blackouts were literally 45 years ago..... we have had 10 different administrations since then!

so yeah... might want to use something a bit more current!

some of us also remember that when the tories said "we were all in it together" with austerity, the first thing they did was cut the highest rate of tax.......

so much for "in it together"....

also remember not very long ago the very very first election pledge that bojo made was "we will cut the highest rate of income tax" and extend the 40% tax band......

sorting out his "friends" first isn't a good look.........

Indeed.

People like Sajid Javid, who was up to his neck in reckless greed at Deutsche Bank.

But much easier for some to think it was Labour that crashed the Atlantic financial system.

Again another great point.

The only party which has been reckless with people in general are the conservatives.

"Finally! It’s taken almost a week to realise this is a major disaster.

People have lost so much now, and the PM is more concerned about his campaign than dealing with this crisis.

This is what happens in a Tory government, the north again neglected!

And people are still going to keep them in power what a joke! "

You do realise derby and sheffield had severe flooding aswell, which is where hes been for the last two days. Also to make out a labour govt would do anything quicker is complete bollocks

Did Boris really think he could use the people suffering from these floods as a photo opportunity for his election.

They heckled the wanker,as was right..

He didn’t even apologise for his late response.I thought he was an honourable man.An apology wouldn’t of hurt and would have shown him as a statesman.

He was weighed and measured by the flood victims of the north and was found lacking.

Well played Boris. That wanker comment will come back to haunt you son.
