Democracy has always been full of liars. The only difference seems to be that now, no one cares. Johnson, for example, as the PM lies continuously about everything. And no one seems to give a crap. They keep voting for him.

Seems to me like brexit was the catalyst for the apathy towards bullshit.

Actually, I think that representative democracy through the sovereignty of Parliament and the partiality of the judiciary has done very well.

The problem are the types of people surrounding the Brexit process.

Boger, Garage and Cummings' willingness to lie openly and shamelessly and people's willingness to believe them will kill democracy.

Essentially those in power hold democracy in contempt yet claim to be defending it.

Yes and no. Brexit has done more to fracture and divide the UK, making the Scottish independence movement stronger and making the place of reunification in Ireland stronger than ever. In that regard Brexit is just a vessel for English Nationalism to run wild.

The conservatives have shown no regard for the unwritten constitution. The judicary has been dragged into politics. Its been shown repeatedly that parliament is sovereign. Every attempt to subvert or sidestep has been defeated.

But things will never be the same regardless of the election outcome.

I disagree that we are now aware of the implications. We were aware from the start. People just buried their head in the sand and repeated the phrase "project fear".

Technically the answer is no. As Brexit has not actually happened.

What has occurred is that there has been a push by the right wing controlled media to show that what was an advisory referendum should not be subject to any legislative scrutiny that is part or our parliamentary democracy.

With this agenda they have managed to create a hostile environment where the normal checks and balances are portrayed as treasonous and usurping “the will of the people”...

I agree, although I think that the goal was to achieve Brexit come what may.

Destroying our system of law and government is just acceptable collateral damage.

Bluntly if that is you measure it that way you can, but you're ignoring MPs being assassinated, receiving death threats , having to stay in hiding because of threats to their safety, two conservative governments being taken to court and losing twice, once for closing parliament to circumvent parliamentary scrutiny and before that stopping parliament from voting on the withdrawal agreement

Headlines like 'saboteurs!'and Judges being called 'enemies of the people' Massive public demonstrations being ignored, electoral campaign spending rules being circumvented. A certain certain red bus

I recently met the husband of a labour mp who was being threatened regularly with death by one brexit supporting nutjob. The funny thing about it is that after sending all these threats to her he then sent an email asking why she hadn’t replied to his threats which made it very easy for the police to catch up with him. He got three months in custody and lots of injunctions to keep him away from her and her family. They also had to have a panic phone line directly linked to the police and an upgraded alarm installed too. They can laugh about it now because of his ineptitude but it was a pretty scary experience at the time and after Jo Cox’s death its always in the background for them. I dont envy them!
