Is there something wrong with being a secret green? Or is the Green party only for wealthy liberals?

If i saw some evidence which wasnt manipulated I'd probably be on board. But all i see is cherry picked statistics, all i see is population control through fear. In Russia they don't worry their population with climate change, they worry their people by constantly telling them that the west is plotting to destroy them all. Basically like we were being told back in the day. Control by fear is the name of the game. Fear of immigration, fear of man made climate change, fear of aids and homosexuality, fear of holes in ozone layers... As they chip away at our freedom. And you lap it up like a good dog.

You and I have never seen an atom yet you trust that nuclear power plants smash them together to make heat and generate steam to make electricity. You need to trust the scientific method. Its got us to the moon and back Its allowed you to communicate over vast distances .All the way from Salisbury to Bournemouth..

If 9 out of 10 doctors said you had testicular cancer would you choose the one who gave you the all clear..That’s the climate change consensus.

And Russia isn’t the best example of an informed society.

There is no population control in the west.

AIDS is now manager by scientific discovery.

Immigration is benefiting us as long as we provide the services to account for the increase,

Atoms are lies.

Cancer can be cured by some unlicensed and unverifiable protein.

Russians are very open and liberal. They love the gays.

AIDS is a judgement from heaven.

The internet says so somewhere, so it's true. Especially if most people with any expertise think the opposite.

Immigration is only people coming to steal our stuff and dilute our purity.

Climate change deniers remind me of biblical creationists. The science is so thoroughly decided against them, they end up with these conspiracy theories as to why the "truth" is being hidden.

"Surely making travel more expensive and more difficult is exactly what this planet needs?"

Remember quarantine?

Like dogs and stuff, six months in the penitentiary?

That's the citizens of the British Isles.

The only citizens of Europe without the rights of the citizens of Europe.

That's a very good idea. All English should have to spend six months in quarantine before they can enter any EU country, to ensure that they are free of the Brexitus Farager-Johnsonia virus, and safe to travel without spreading the contagion.

"Surely making travel more expensive and more difficult is exactly what this planet needs?"

The devil is in the detail. There's not one way to help mitigate the effects of human created global heating, from the industrial revolution onwards. Those with a genuine commitment can read the IPCC reports and support strategies based on evidence and science.

But if travel from one country to another was deemed by an individual as too expensive and therefore an unnecessary expenditure, leading to less travel, that would be to the advantage of the environment?

"Surely making travel more expensive and more difficult is exactly what this planet needs?"

Depends on the purpose of travel.

Making it more difficult and expensive for European motor car manufacturers to import German cars to the UK by road / rail / ferry will undoubtedly be better for the planet. So long as the German cars are replaced by British manufactured cars. And no replaced by Chinese, Brazilian, Turkish, Korean, American, Canadian cars which are imported using the worlds most polluting ships.

On a more localised basis, forcing the entire population to use public transport has got to be a good thing for pollution and the earth. But how does the bus driver who earns £11 per hour and is legally restricted to a maximum of 48 hours work per week on average, get to work?

Talking of climate change, fascinating piece of work published this week by the Office for National Statistics.

Contrary to popular belief, the ONS says, the carbon footprint of the UK is worse than conventional thinking.

This is because the UK has outsourced so much of its manufacturing to China and India, and buys in so much stuff from abroad.

Per head of population, the UK now has the highest level of outsourced carbon emissions of any country on the planet.

Instead of polluting our own atmosphere, our consumption of foreign-produced goods mean we have outsourced our carbon emissions to China, the EU and the US primarily.

The total per person rose from 1.7 tonnes in 1992 to 5.1 tonnes in 2007, making us the dirtiest polluters of other people's air anywhere in the world.

All this post tells us is that you're unable to analyse and understand information.

Which isn't really that interesting.

In fairness. The other poster didn't say that don't believe in climate change. Just that they don't give a fuck about destroying the planet.

And make it harder for people to escape the UK after Brexit. It’s a really good idea we need poor people to fill all the crappy jobs.

OP has a point... an estimated 6% hit to the economy under the current proposed deal will affect people’s ability to buy stuff imported from abroad or be able to travel/ go on holiday. However the current proposed deal will allow the UK to deregulate the current environmental protection (as well as worker’s rights) and with Johnson, Rees-Mogg, Raab etc in charge it won’t be in favour of the planet or the workers, just the companies who profit from deregulation.

You would need to compare the origin of environmental legislation. I tend towards it being worse for the environment as the UK has for decades been more interested in big business interests than environmental interests. One reason farmers apparently voted brexit (turkeys/Christmas in all other respects) was the promise of more relaxed laws around pesticides and antibiotics. Then again, cap is a nightmare. Bee killing pesticides - blocked by EU, wanted by UK. Chlorine chicken ...yummy and safe or cause of high rates of food poisoning? Banned by EU. Pollution levels sea/air - EU rules. Not liked by UK as we keep breaking them then getting fined.

Overall, like everything else, brexit is probably worse for the environment. Only because the UK votes in tossers who don't care about the environment though. If we ever changed that, then we could also have better environmental protection.

Of course, there is also your argument. Brexit reduces us to third world status so,like other third world countries, our carbon footprint is tiny as we can't afford heating, electricity, cars. Yay for Brexit.
