"JLR in the news today after opening a new set of buildings at their Haydon site ....waste of money or a good investment? Right choice considering the difficulties facing the UK automotive industry? Or was the decision to invest made at a point where the company thought things were all good prior to Brexit/China slow down in sales and it was then too late to put the project completely on hold? Would love to be a fly on the wall in some of those big meetings......." It's a centralised distribution site. It's logistically more efficient than what is happening now. Regardless of Brexit there will be production in the UK so it's necessary. They are spending money that they don't have anyway, so they wouldn't unless they had to.

Sorry, not on about the logistics site. They opened a new set of buildings at the design and development site at Gaydon.

Ground work started well before the referendum. They were already committed. They needed to consolidate on one site as engineering and design was split between Gaydon and Coventry. If they survive it will be great. Design and engineering development could still continue there even if manufacturing moves, so probably not a complete white elephant. Does provide some security for these sorts of jobs at least because it would still be an asset to another car company to purchase.

"Yea very true I suppose. I wonder if they would have made the same decision if they knew what was coming.....hind site and all that. Well fingers crossed everything stabilises and the UK automotive industry does well!" You need to write Brexit in the title with exclamation marks to get any interest on this forum

"Is JLR a good company to work for? I have been accepted on a placement there next year as part of my uni course, but it's miles away. I have heard some really good things, but also some really bad ones from people a year ahead of me who did/doing the same." Would a better question to yourself be, is a placement at JLR going to provide the best overall outcomes for my end goals? Where would I go that would offer me more? Asking peoples opinions on work is very subjective, someone may have had a great career at JLR and another not so, who would you believe? People are the asset, if you are surrounded by good people who you can get on with, a job is usually good. All the best, whatever you decide to do
