"They don't abstain from queueing up at the Strasbourg Members' Pay Office to claim their daily allowance and travel expenses though! And by joining together as a "Political Group" they're entitled to secretarial allowances and all kinds of other bunces. God forbid any of 'em should actually attend a Committee Meeting in Brussels and do some behind-the-scenes hard work. Still, that's the one-trick-ponies you voted for; and expect the same thing in Westminster should there be a General Election in the near future..." who voted for them?? i dont vote for anyone or anything was just saying as far as im aware they abstain from all votes and as for the money they prob aint the only ones.i meen our own m.ps do it parliment seems half empty most of the time

Many of us that voted leave did do because of this. To allow this to happen just borders on the corrupt. I work damn hard for my money, and these people should be made to as well.

"Who the fuck would make excuses for this bullshit. Your moral compass is broken people. " If their morals are to abstain from any vote then i would argue that their moral compass is not broke.

"Just to put the figures out there. All in Euros. MEPs receive:- 8757 per month salary 320 per day in sustinence allowance if they sign the register. 4513 per month for office expenses. Pension of 3.5% of final salary for every year served upto a maximum of 70%, which they can take from age 63. 67% of private medical expenses reimbursed. Travel expenses reimbursed upto business class. Free use of EU vehicles when in attendance. If they work for it, then it is what it is. Those who just turn up, do sod all or just cause trouble, should be suspended and investigated. " You forgot to mention their own nice little tax system.

"dont they abstain from every vote or have i got that wrong Our European equivalent of Sinn Feinn then. " Not quite. Sinn Fein MPs have not taken the oath of allegiance (good for them) so cannot take their seats. As such they cannot vote and therefore are absent not abstainers

" Sinn Fein MPs don't get a Westminster salary, although they can claim expenses for offices and staff etc" Their MPs receive the same salary as any other MP and do the same constituency work as any other MP. They just do not sit in the Parliament because to do so requires them to take an oath to a "foreign" head of state.

It's there in orange and green on the Sinn Fein website, one of the most incisive political websites existing.

The EU opposes sanctions against the Ayatollahs' regime, if it was serious about making Iran suffer for illegally detaining people it would surely support positive action? But hey, this is the EU Parliament, good at passing resolutions but at very little else.

"dont they abstain from every vote or have i got that wrong Right" Well I presumed it was correct that the Brexit Party MEP's abstained on all votes because of the cock sure answers on here but no, they do vote... Anne Widdecombe was on LBC this evening talking about voting in the European Parliament about one matter or whatever, so she does vote. Farage and his crew all voted in the European President election too so it seems they vote when they can be arsed or bothered about the question at hand so they don't have a united approach to abstaining all votes.
