Will de Pfeffel suspend the rule of law to get his no deal brexit over the Halloween line?

What do we think? Does he believe he can get away with using part 2 (emergency powers) of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004 to do an end run round the law just passed to ensure there will be no 'no deal' brexit without parliaments approval. Further if he does force a no deal brexit through will he end up convicted of a crime and being imprisoned? Or is he banking on the country being so divided it will not be possible to find a jury that would convict him provided he delivers brexit on the 31st regardless of how damaging it proves to be?

That would be pretty serious shit and a giant leap from the ethical type of politics that has defined the last 100 or so years in this country.

Such drastic action might be understood in times of grave crisis but this is all just about setting the ground for the future relationship that we are going to have with our closest and best-trading partners.

I'll start.

I think he may well go down the size power for a few days route judging he will be able to get away with it, and that it would take the most immediately disastrous of no deal brexits to shake the faith of the true brexit believers and even then I suspect many would believe that it was the fault of 'remoaners' for not believing in brexit that caused bad things to happen. In fact I would go as far as saying that brexit now has a hardcore cult following that is similar in nature and attitude to the Branch Davidians.

I agree with how you characterise the issue. I just think we have drifted into a totally new political era. With de Pfeffel in charge there is no telling what he is willing to do to get his way and that the true believers will suffer and do anything to see their messiah raise his brexit banner high in triumph.
