Are the people finally waking up to see who boris really is? They are even urging people to start to demonstrate outside nr 10.

When the 'bumbling buffoons' mask fell and he told Londoners representitives to "fuck off!" while he was being quizzed about selling off London fire stations while mayor of London people should have woken up. But his hair is a mess, he calls table tennis wif waf, he looks quite clownish, has a little Latin, went to Eaton and has a plumy voice so he must be a 'good egg'. Pity most people forget why it is they had a deep fear of clowns as a child. Nothing funny about the big violent men with faces painted in such a way you can't really see them.

We should put up a meet in the meets and events section so we can all meet up outside number 10 and demonstrate against boris and what the UK voted for

Who’s going ? How dare the people vote to leave and be aloud to actually leave, no no no

We need to fight democracy and go against the people so are you in ?

Or will you just moan on here and actually do nothing ?

It is important to be able to exercise your right to demonstrate if you see something is not right such as brexit as it is not good for the countries health

And what new alternative solutions to the backstop is he bringing to the table to discuss? Surely you can only re-negotiate if there's something on offer. Nobody's going to buy an off-roader that got the suspension removed for a renewed round of negotiations.

Or does Boris think with his no deal threat he's putting up enough pressure for the EU to offer deal changes until the UK id happy with it?

Again. You’re not getting my point, you’re criticising someone for saying that this isn’t what they want, that they should just accept it because that’s what the people voted for and we’re saying, well actually no, because we are also the people and we didn’t vote for this. Whether it goes ahead or not is irrelevant, but everyone has the right to disagree with something even if the “majority” voted for it.

We the people voted for a tory government to deliver a deal. I don't recall anything in their manifesto which said if they can't get a deal through then it's no deal. Probablu because they assumed if they were in a place to deliver their manifesto (eg in government) then their MPs, who stood on said manifesto, would vote with them, not against.

Why is this part of democracy okay to allow to pass?

As I've said before, May's deal (or now whatever Boris brings back) is the democfatic answer and one I'd accept, even if I don't like leave, the tories, and the deal. It's not May's deal. It's the peoples deal.

Again, you’re not really getting what I am saying. I’m fully behind democracy, but I did not vote to leave because I don’t vote blindly. We need to leave, if only to prove how much worse off we are going to be.

This is true. "Leave" isnt one thing. It's many different options.

We're being pushed towards the most severe version. Which was not what the leave campaign promoted. Although, seeing as they lied about everything else. It's no surprise.

Saw some survey results today from 2 weeks before the referendum. Only 22% of leave voters thought Brexit would be a risk to full access to the single market.

They lapped up all everything they were fed about easy deals, and having our cake and eating it.

It's just really sad.

While I don't think that another referendum would make any difference, just look at some of the absolute rubbish people believe.

The idea that democracy should have ended with the result of the last referendum is moronic. Democracy is on going. You can have one vote or one election and then stick with that result forever. You need continual democracy to account for changes in situation and changes in people who vote, IE, young people who reach voting age.

I'm suggesting that democracy is an illusion, when people vote whatever way they're told to.

Completely wrong there on remainers being braniwashed, what a silly thing to say. Remainers are well aware of the imperfections in the EU.

Your asking an impossible question that isn’t answered by suggesting those with an opposing view to yours were brainwashed into voting for something you and others consider to be bad.

"

I love to discuss things with people who have an opposing view. But when you get to a point when someone says "there is no evidence or information to back up my point. I just believe it and or don't know what will happen". Then there's nowhere to go.

I'm open to other ideas around why people voted for brexit against their own interests for the benefit of a rich few. It's certain that some people were brainwashed to a degree. Just look at some of the pure nonsense that people post up here. "Taking back control", "sovereignty", "better trade deals", etc etc.

"We should put up a meet in the meets and events section so we can all meet up outside number 10 and demonstrate against boris and what the UK voted for

Who’s going ? How dare the people vote to leave and be aloud to actually leave, no no no

We need to fight democracy and go against the people so are you in ?

Or will you just moan on here and actually do nothing ?

‘Fight democracy’?? The whole point of democracy is that you can stand up for something if you don’t believe in it.

Didn’t we have a democratic vote ?

Indeed we did. But I fail to see your point? Those that voted against Brexit have every right to stand up and say this is not what I voted for right up to and beyond it happening. That is their democratic right.

Why was there a vote for then ?

Wasn’t the vote, stay or leave ?

Hey there is no criticism here, everyone has a right to an opinion or to demonstrate etc

Ok just to understand, we had a democratic vote and the result was to leave. Full stop

And people are against it ,,, ok

So if democracy is not for you or the other remainers , what world would you prefer instead of democracy? Dictatorship?

Again, you’re not really getting what I am saying. The referendum should have only happened after there was a deal on the table, therefore the people would have known what they were voting for or against. I’m fully behind democracy, but I did not vote to leave because I don’t vote blindly. We need to leave, if only to prove how much worse off we are going to be.

No I get your point, and respectfully it’s irrelevant, should of ? Yeah maybe but we didn’t so that’s irrelevant,

The democratic vote asked stay or leave ,,, we voted leave.

I’m for democracy if people arnt then fair enough but we here live in a democracy and should onto that

One of the best things about democracy is the ability to change direction. If leaving the EU was actually the best thing for the UK we would have left as soon as the vote came in, but we are over 3yrs later. That says enough.

While I don't think that another referendum would make any difference, just look at some of the absolute rubbish people believe.

The idea that democracy should have ended with the result of the last referendum is moronic. Democracy is on going. You can have one vote or one election and then stick with that result forever. You need continual democracy to account for changes in situation and changes in people who vote, IE, young people who reach voting age."

Ok so we should just completely ignore this fair democratic vote result and maybe have one every 3 years say ? Until the end of time ? Or till you get the result you want ?

Personally I’m looking forward to the 4th vote

I’m sure that was said quite a few times in 2017"

That was all part of the rhetoric to get the best deal possible. Remember, being prepared to walk away is all part of great negotiation.

The Conservative government came back with a deal they saw as delivering on their manifesto and was better than no deal.

We voted to leave so we do need to leave.

I do think leaving with a deal was the least harmful form of Brexit and a no deal if the most harmful but either way we still need to honour the referendum.

No one liked the deal. But we knew that would be the case.

Remainer MPs didn't like it because it wasn't anywhere close to the deal we get as a member of the EU.

And leaver MPs didn't like it because they'd have to pay their taxes, and wouldn't be able to remove all the rights and protections provided by the EU.

My gut feeling is that Boris's Gamble is that a vote of no confidence could indeed come about which he may or may not win. If he doesn't win it then he can call a general election and pin remain tail firmly on Jezza's backside and hoover up the 40% of people that want us to leave the EU which in our FPP electoral system could be a landslide. Jezza knows that and is falling into the trap, hook line and sinker.

If he he proves opposition to be a paper tiger then he wins that way too. Whichever way it goes he stands to win big time. Something of a master stroke me thinks. Of course it could all go very wrong with some X unknown factor but he thinks he has it all under control right now.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with any statement here.

I'm just making sure the same yard stick is used regardless of the result it produces.

We should respect the will of the people and what they voted for. MPs should just be conduits to deliver this. Fine, its May's deal.

MPs provide a role in adding scrutiny and can vote against something they see as bad even if their party leaders think its good and it delivers on promises made. Fine, then preventing a vote on no deal is undemocratic as its removing our voice.

And leaver MPs didn't like it because they'd have to pay their taxes, and wouldn't be able to remove all the rights and protections provided by the EU."

There you go again, what rights and protections have the government proposed to remove? you keep peddling that lie but it wont become true just because you keep saying it

Yes we did, but there was no plan as the vote for a misguided nostalgia.I forgot the was word, "the vote was for a misguided nostalgia".

Really I must of missed that question? Where was it on the form ?

Just checked and it wasn’t on there ?

If I’m wrong I’m happy to admit so It wasnt a question on there, but that is the general feel you get as they want the big empire they once was, but it wont happen.

Ooooooooo so your just simply guessing what the 17,000,000 odd were voting on. Pure guess work ok now I understand you

I think that the 17,000,000 odd were voting on the idea of a super underground space station that has pizze growing trees being based somewhere near Rhyl ,,, but I’m only guessing also mind the same as you.

Of course yours and my idea is completely silly "

I agree. I don't know what people had in their head when they voted. No one knows for sure...

And if you said they weren't voting for a specific type of brexit but any and every type, I'd have sympathy...

But when lead Brexiteers say May's deal is not brexit, when it clearly is (test: are we part of the EU. No) then I start to doubt people really did vote for any and every flavour but had their own idea of what acceptable and unacceptable is.

And as soon as you add in this uncertainty, I start to think what harm is their in double checking that they are happy with this specific flavour.

If all 17m agree with you, you win. If they don't, and they were voting on the promise of a deal, should we hold them to account when those campaigning don't seem to accept a version of Brexit they don't see as being Brexit.

"No deal is better than a bad deal

I’m sure that was said quite a few times in 2017

That was all part of the rhetoric to get the best deal possible. Remember, being prepared to walk away is all part of great negotiation.

The Conservative government came back with a deal they saw as delivering on their manifesto and was better than no deal.

We end up going round in circles.... our MPs on all sides didn’t like the deal ....

No one liked the deal. But we knew that would be the case.

Remainer MPs didn't like it because it wasn't anywhere close to the deal we get as a member of the EU.

I've answered this in detail for you. Given you examples and some suggested reading.

It's your choice to ignore information about what's going on. I don't know why you're having a pop at me over your choice to not read up anything about brexit.

So you vote the poorest section of British society deeper into austerity, and bring down all the vast array negatives of brexit. Just to spite some people who this will make no difference to.

At least it's a reason. I haven't seen anyone else suggesting this, as part of their thinking on brexit, so it's hard to know if it was in anyone else's agenda. Or if they have just swallowed all the bullshit from Farage, The Daily Mail etc.

"Any cost?

I have had one or two people say that to me. When I then ask if they include the cost being their and their families deaths they quickly claim that is not what they meant. I follow with so how about if it causes a civil war? To that they generally reply something along the lines of 'if that's the cost, that's the cost'. When I then point out that what they are saying is: At any cost provided they don't have to pay it they go very quiet. I doubt I have changed any of their beliefs, but maybe some of those who have been listening to the discussion have started to see things in a different light.

You will continue to refuse to consider that anything bad will happen, and that's been my point for years. 3 years ago every politician and opinion maker who backed leave said no deal was unthinkable and would never happen, now it is the most likely outcome. 2 1/2 years ago it was the easiest deal in the world and we would have at least 40 FTA's in place ready to be signed as soon as we left the EU. Now there are none. 18 months ago any talk of pharmaceutical shortages were scaremongering on the part bitter remainers. Now, well there are going to be some bumps in the road. 2 months ago the thought of proroguing parliament to force brexit through against its wishes was unthinkable. That's just happened!

Do you see a pattern? Maybe you see a pattern in your denial over the last 3 years, or probably not, after all you're of the type that would say 'we must have brexit at any cost', but I am sure you will deny that like you have denied everything else I have said.

But don't worry I'm no one and what I say has no value so you can keep ignoring everything I say and the leaders of your brexit cause do that belies their words.

I can understand people's anger at the wages & expenses that go on within the European Union but that includes the UK lot too and we've not been unknown for high expenses and scandals here in the UK too but as ever there's good with the bad but it seems that leavers only have fixation on the bad points of being a member and not taking into account any of the many positives it gives us.

You and I will clearly never agree on this subject so I will leave you with just one little morsel to chew over. If it is all going to be so rosy why has the government had 30,000 police officers trained up for counter insurgency operations in NI that's the number of military that were deployed to NI during the troubles)? And what do you think is going to happen to crime rates in the rest of the country if 30,000 police are removed from mainland policing?

Try this on for size. In the late 70's early 80's at the height of the troubles there were somewhere in the region of 2000 active insurgents (on both sides of the sectarian divide) in NI. It does not take many (on the insurgent side) to fight an asymmetric war, but it took us 30,000 trained troops to keep a lid on it.

Of course they don't. But the point is it is not what the vast majority want that determines what happens. It is what the most radical and extreme want will decide the fate of the NI peace process once de pfeffel drives his brexit coach and horses through the GFA.

There's only ever been a minority of people who wanted violence on either side in NI. But it's very possible for those minorities to get back to the old ways.

Most of those organisations are dormant rather than gone.

I'm not saying I agree with the pundits who predict that there will be a return to violence if a hard border is reinstated. But I would agree that some will use it as an opportunity to try.

If the UK breaks the terms of the GFA in any way. There will be consequences from the UN. I tried to find out what they might be. But it's very hard as the information on that doesn't seem to be readily available.

I'm not saying it will happen.

Just that some will likely try to use it as an excuse.

The cease fire was extremely complex. For example, the main republican organisation took steps to enforce the peace with some of the other factions. The other factions are of various levels of extreme. It's a balance.

Just because you don't see it. Doesn't mean that it's not a possibility.

And while you all were telling me how wrong I was Orange Order unionists and Union flag waving BNP thugs were rioting and attacking a peaceful demonstration for Irish unity in Glasgow.

Now what is it you were all saying about how everything I have been saying is just hogwash? Any of you feel the need to acknowledge that maybe the possibility of serious violence is very real?

Do people still believe bullshit like this, or is this a joke?

When you say "save money". Are you aware that the government is currently wasting 600-800 million a week on Brexit. Which could have been spent on schools, NHS, or housing.

The money being spent is largely on mitigating the effects of no deal.

The strongest pro leave arguments seem to be.

1. It doesn't matter that people voted leave based on complete lies and misinformation. Suggest that remainers are anti-democratic. Yet completely cool with those who perverted and cheapened democracy with those deliberate lies and misinformation.

2. If you believe hard enough, it might not be as bad as the very worst forecasts and if we trust the Tories, they might not reduce or remove all the EU safety standards, workers rights etc.

Any potential positives to Brexit...... Silence.

People do realise that whatever the kind of exit, soft, hard, call it what you want, it marks the beginning of the real, hard trade negotiations!

If you want this to be over, admit in your heart it’s a shit show, revoke article 50, support a People’s Council and inquiry on the issue and let’s move on

Johnson and his followers are eager to talk about a "global Britain" vision that will trade freely with the whole world, but in fact they are putting the country on a bumpy path of broken trade relations and new, serious trade barriers.

Except that, according to the Electoral Commission, the referendum was not run in a free, fair and democratic way. So "no" we have not had a truly democratic vote on whether we should Leave or Remain.

As to your question of on democracy. My preference is always in favour of Representative democracy by a sovereign parliament and not for majoritarian plebiscites or referendum which, as Attlee, Churchill and Thatcher often said, are the tool populists demagogues and dictators.

"We voted to leave so we do need to leave.

I do think leaving with a deal was the least harmful form of Brexit and a no deal if the most harmful but either way we still need to honour the referendum. "

We only need to honour the result of the referendum if we believe the referendum was conducted in a fair and democratic way. As the Electrical Commission has already said it wasn't then the referendum and the result can not be truly considered a reflection of the true will of the people or as an exercise of true democracy.

Except that, according to the Electoral Commission, the referendum was not run in a free, fair and democratic way. So "no" we have not had a truly democratic vote on whether we should Leave or Remain.

As to your question of on democracy. My preference is always in favour of Representative democracy by a sovereign parliament and not for majoritarian plebiscites or referendum which, as Attlee, Churchill and Thatcher often said, are the tool populists demagogues and dictators.

agree with you there it wasn't fair at all Cameron spent 9 million of tax payers money on a leaflet to convince us to vote remain bloody cheek lol

The government are obligated to produce this material.

If you're pissed off by 9 million of tax payers money going on this. You must be fucking raging at the 600-800 million of tax payers money a week being wasted on Brexit. yes I am the sooner we get out we won't have a Brexit to waste money on you don't want another vote so you must want us to get out asap then ?

When we're out, that's the start of Brexit for real, and what we are wasting now will look like peanuts. Do you think that there is some kind is positive from Brexit? We should try to keep the conversation vaguely within the realm of reality.

How do you draw a line from me not supporting another referendum on brexit to wanting brexit asap? You do know I'm against ruining the country for the benefit of a rich few? I voted remain."

I though it wa you who said we shouldn't of ad a referendum and you don't think we should have another ? It may of been another poster

I don't know what there is to not get.

There should never have been a vote in the first place. It was only because Cameron was scared of losing votes to ukip. It's too import, and people aren't educated enough about the EU. one of the options was complete bullshit, only benefits the rich few at the detriment of everyone else. With literally no upside.

There shouldn't be another referendum because people will vote for the same bullshit again. Just look at what people who post on here.

Belief seems to have equal weighting to fact, ok information and reasoning.

We knew brexit would be a disaster. It is proving to be as disaster. People will vote for it again.

Wow you got so angry you couldn't type.

I genuinely don't know what it is that you don't know.

Another vote is a waste of time as it's unlikely to change anything.

If leave won again would brexit somehow magically have any benefits for the UK? Or would it still be exclusively a massive bag of shit?

Would the leave campaign be a complete bag of lies again?

If the answer to those was yes. Then we would still fight for what's right, and we'd still dissent. And we would still be put down as "moaners" by people who don't have any argument to bring to the table.

If there was some measurable benefit to brexit, if the campaign wasn't full of lies. Then sure. There wouldn't be as much vocal opposition.

"We had a referendum to stay or leave. The majority said leave. End of

What use is a referendum if people are so easily brainwashed to vote the way that the rich and powerful want them to.

Pointless."

I find that statement patronising!! As if us poor sods can't think for ourselves then your as bad as the politicians!!

The whole process is severely twisted by the petty lot who voted to stay and the lies and eggagerations from all sides is unbelievable and so immature and all that everyone is doing is making a complete mockery of democracy and what it stands for!!

I didn't vote to leave but I strongly behind Boris in a no deal why should we be bullied by Europe I think he is right to call their bluff and stand by it as I see it Europe has called the shots for far to long.

If all parties had united and actually did what the people voted for was the politicians to work together and make a strong Britain then we might ha e swayed Europe but as we are so fractured that's what is causing the chaos..

"Just out of interest, if there was a second vote and Leave won again - would Remoaners stop whining like little bitches and go back to their former insignificant lives?"

Ignoring the unnecessary insult...

If we had a referendum where it was clear where both options would take us,I'd respect it.

My original frustration was always leave was ill defined. It was about what we were moving from, not to. And even the from was ill defined. By leaving the eu, did that mean saying no to SM. No to any form of customs union.

But then came the GE and both main parties campaigned on being the best to deliver the right kind of brexit. Both campaigned on close relationships. And while I disagreed with leave, and disagree with many other tory policies, I would have said their version of Brexit was the will of the people.

And then it all went tits up, and we are running towards a version of Brexit no party stood on. A version of Brexit only the remain campaign said was anything other than improbable. And the leave campaign labeled part of project fear. And to get there, a new PM is stretching the law. In an archaic way he said he wouldn't. To prevent our elected representatives having a say.

That to me smells. That is why I think we need a second vote.

But if after all that, the people say yes. No deal Brexit. Then yes. I'd respect that.

Would leave voters respect a remain vote?

I don't remember. Maybe I missed it.

Firstly it's not only how it will effect me personally.

The least we'll off in society the most impacted. The most vulnerable people, the elderly and disabled, who rely on their pension or disability allowance. These are the people who are worst effected by austerity. With less money in the budget (bear in mind were currently 600-800 mil per week down). It's going to be these people that are hit the hardest.

Also less money from taxes, and from international trade means less money for the NHS, social housing, education, etc etc. Effects everyone.

Brexit has played a part in a number of businesses relocating from the UK. Which means people lost their jobs, and less tax is generated.

I work in the higher and further education sector. After the referendum result went through, there was a huge drop in foreign students enrolling on courses. Some universities had an 80% drop. If it's fair or not, foreign students pay way more for their education here. And they don't get grants from the Government here.

So there has been a huge drop in funds available to universities and colleges. There have been job losses, and pay freezes.

I drove my scooter to Scotland last week.

My mum, who is 82, had a turn and landed in hospital.

So I went to see her day after she got out.

My mum gets the Scottish Daily Mail.

I found with with a big banner headline about the GERS figures.

How the SNP case for independence was in tatters, because the Union was worth £2000 for every adult.

I'd love to look back and see how the Mail reported Cameron's warning that exiting european union was £3000 for every household.

England did not listen, so why should Scotland?

Of course. But you suspecting that I won't be effected. Doesn't give me much comfort and doesn't address any of the other issues that will be effecting us all.

Do you not see why people are concerned? Or frustrated.

Plus where is the up side of brexit? This all seems for nothing.

Right. But that's nothing to do with me. I haven't called you names.

I feel comfortable being critical of people voting for brexit. Without insulting anyone.

The devisive nature of brexit is probably going to have deeper and more lasting effects on the UK than any gdp hit.

It's a small battle, but it would be good if the forum could move away from name calling, personal attacks, and taking spats across threads... And maybe take collective responsibility to call this out... On all sides... By all sides.

I have a dream....

As long. As you think your opinion is higher than someone who voted to leave
