The loony left is a pejorative term to describe those considered to be politically far left.

Incorrect. "Loony left". Is usually used by the alt right to describe anyone who stands up to bigotry in society.

.

Is it nuts, the loony left tag has been around decades long before anybody dreamt up the alt right.

Scargill was called loony left, Micheal foot, Ken Livingston, Neil Kinnock, the fringe element of the labour party.

But a nice attempt to virtue signal anyhow

The term looney left" goes way back to the early 1989s, and was used by the press to mainly describe the antics of Ken Livingstone and the GLC.

It probably reached a peak prior to the 1987 election where Neil Kinnock was roundly defeated.

Whilst its an easy tag for anyone right of centre to throw around, I have seen examples of the more moderate Labour Party using it.

Yes now you're getting there.

So the alt right use the phrase to attempt to discredit and marginalise anybody with moderate views. Such as non-bigoted people, people who want to do something about climate change etc etc.

Thank you, and I guess the alt right, right leaning, right centrists, centrists, left centrist and left wing people use the term also to describe the loony left
