Brexiteer jailed for 18 weeks for threatening to kill MPs because he felt they were trying to “delay or stop the UK’s exit from the European Union”.

Robert Vidler targeted six MPs with a barrage of voicemails and abusive calls.

City of London Magistrates’ Court heard that one message, left in January for the then-Conservative and now independent MP for Grantham and Stamford Nick Boles, said: “If you f*** up Brexit we will cut your f***** throat. We know where you live and we know your f***ing timetable and we ain’t joking.”

Another voicemail targeting Dominic Grieve, the Conservative MP for Beaconsfield, said: “Hello, Mr Grieve. We know your f***ing timetable and we know where you f***ing live, ok?”

Vidler, 64, called again to repeat his threat the following day, warning: “You’re dead, Grieve, we know where you and your f***ing family live.”

"The court heard that Vidler, who admitted to having a “drink problem”, had 18 previous convictions dating back to 2002, including for causing criminal damage, being d*unk and disorderly, and assaulting a police constable.

"He was sentenced to 18 weeks for each of the eight offences, all to be served concurrently, and ordered to pay £300 costs and a £115 victim surcharge."

Surprised he wasn't up on terror charges.

Really despicable.

Under the same legislation, another extremist convicted at Stockport.

Pawel Mirkowski posted appalling comments about the New Zealand massacre and called for genocide of Pakistani muslims.

Four weeks' jail time, suspended for 18 months.

The report on the Crown Prosecution Service website is interesting:

"He was sentenced at Stockport Magistrates' court to four weeks' custody, suspended for 18 months. In addition he was given a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement plus 200 hours' unpaid work, and he was ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £115.

"For the basic offence (without the racial/religious element) he would have been sentenced to a community order.

"Racial or religious aggravation makes an offence more serious and the court has a duty to take this into account when it sentences a defendant. The sentences given are enhanced to reflect the racist/religious aggravation. The court has a duty to outline what the sentence would have been had it not been for the racist/religious aggravation and what sentence is due to the specific racist/religious aggravating features."

Terror charge? A bit of an o er reaction.

Despicable? Yes, no place for violence or aggression of this kind.

I would also add burning od hanging an effigy of MPs to the despicable list. Something the left do all the time.

Bit of a left turn on the thread there. Haha.

Pun intended.

As a newbie here it's interesting to see how this forum has some people who view the "left" or the "right" as the enemy.

You're obviously not defending this guy for what he did. But you still had to get a dig in on people you perceive to be on the "left". By suggesting that burning effigies is "something the left do all the time".

Why did you feel like it was important to say this?

Sounds like he's suffering from underlying mental health issues.

His sentence should have included mandatory long term counselling, for his own good really.

"I wonder who radicalised him?"

Probably not a case of who, but what.

As I said, sounds like he has a mental health issue which is being exacerbated by drinking.

Probably effecting his prospects in life, and without guidance, self assessment is hard, so he's probably looking for something to blame.

On the surface it sounds more like an angry and confused person rather than a mental health issue.

More a symptom of the current political climate.

You make a really good point, yes I did it intentionally. I'm not even right wing. I merely have an issue with the extreme left on here who condone and praise violence against anyone on the right or has different views to them.

I don't think I've ever seen one single post on here praising left wing violence, or any violence.

I have read certain leave voters on here subscribing to certain levels of violence regarding none delivery of Brexit though as acceptable.

When politicians, campaigns and secret organisation who spend £millions on stoking the emotions of people, whilst disinformation campaigns prevail, it's little surprise that some of the public hate ever more.

He's probably someone who will lose out financially by Brexit

Maybe time for a reality check.

If someone intended to causes anyone any harm, they are hardly going to inform them in advance of their intentions. On a simplistic basis they would simply go ahead and carry out their intentions.

The gentleman concerned had issues associated with drinking.

With all the murders currently happened in London ( where people are actually being killed ) a threat such as the one referred to ie probably irrelevant.

During the course of my life I have had two people threaten to kill me. Such threats are laughable, , no one would actually carry them out.

Heidi Allen was on the local news to night . She totally exaggerated the impact of these threats on her simply in an attempt to gain publicity.

It is a pity she did not show some compassion to a gentleman with a health problem.

Offensive as the threats may be they were simply that. He had no intention of carrying them out.

How do you know this criminal who threatened Heidi Allen had a drinking problem?

How do you know a criminal who was trained to kill by the state meant no harm?

Seems to be a common feature among this type.

I recall the geezer from South Wales convicted of terrorism at the Finsbury mosque being described as a "functioning alcoholic".

Is it a characteristic of Brextrism - alcoholism?

A restraining order plus a face to face conversation with Heidi Allen would seem to be the most appropriate remedial action.
