He isn't, just false promises, once England is kicked out of the EU on No Deal then you'll hear about how the EU screwed over our nation and how all these projects now have to be cancelled.

It's UK Law that will remove us from the EU on the 31st October not the EU.

Sure it is, but our government will keep playing the undecided card until we're forced out, that way they can blame the EU for everything, you know, the thing they've been doing for years.

That’s a manipulated reading of the message though isn’t it .

What’s really going on at the moment is ... the uk is saying come back to the table to adjust some things which will allow us to pass this through the commons. In its current state, it won’t pass and so we will be leaving without a deal. So come back and adjust it .

The Eu saying no we’re not coming back to the table is forcing that no deal exit.

That’s a very different message

No, all the way through it has been a conservative government that has been driving this. The instant that Theresa May took the job and said she would deliver brexit, instead of calling it out as the national disaster it has proven to be, it became the tories problem.

The EU has given our government time after time to fix our problem, they have bent over backwards and spent billions of euros on preparing for us screwing them over. They have taken the part of their members, protecting the economy and sovereignty of Eire.

The UK does not get to blame the EU for anything here. The conservative government has put a gun to the UKs head, the voting by a couple of hundred tory MPs and a few hundred thousand members of the tory party for the new PM has taken off the safety catch. All that waits now is to see if Boris chickens out and lets us duck at the very final instant, or if he pulls the trigger and finishes us off.

The EU has no obligation to do anything further. They never had any obligation to do anything except protect themselves, and attempt to protect those of us who never wanted this act of self harm. The people that started this should at least have the decency to own this fuck up.

It is the U.K. that is planning to leave and therefore it is incumbent on the U.K. to explain why the backstop is not needed and what can be done about it. It is the U.K., not Ireland or the E.U. that is planning a course of action that will be disruptive to regulatory, financial and customs agreements with its neighbours.

Everyone in the world, apart from Brexiters, know and understand that it is the leaving Party of an agreement who have to put their house in order and ensure that the decisions that they make do not have unnecessary or unlawful outcomes on others.

The U.K. still believes that it can bully the Irish as it has so many times before through history. This time though, the Irish have the GFA and some political heavy hitting friends on their side.

The fact is that the U.K. is starting to look more stupid and more immature with every passing day as intellectual dialogue is giving way to child like bluff and bluster. It is not a good look.

May's deal otherwise known as the Withdrawal Act was lawfully negotiated by UK Govt representatives and the sticking point (The backstop) was written under the direct watch of David Davis.

The withdrawal act satisfies the Conservative manifesto and if Brexiters truly believe their "technological solutions" then the backstop will never happen anyway.

The WA did not get through because of political shenanigans. It is time for them to all grow up, accept the WA as lawfully negotiated and move on to the next stage.

It's almost 4 months since the original withdrawal date. Whatever solution for the border (the mysterious tech) should have been running for 4 months. Yet there's no sign of what this looks like. How have fujitsu pilot got on. I would have though it would have been published had it have been a success. Silence. Most reports since have failed to identify a full solution.

But no, the reaosn it hasn't been solved is because May is a remainer.

We are asking the eu to step over their red lines. So why can't we step over ours and allow a CU?

The agreement on the table is what was considered compatible with Mrs May's red lines.

That took two years to work up.

Mr Johnson has already set his red lines - No to the May deal; yes to leaving on Oct 31.

Now, if he wants to negotiate a new deal, he needs to go back to square one on the board.

The reality is that he has boxed himself in even more than Mrs May did with his deadline.

As Mr Barnier is fond of saying, all I can hear is the sound of the clock ticking.

The question for the UK now ought to be - is it better to get this right; or is better to get it done.

Johnson appears to have picked the latter. For now at any rate.

Basically remove the backstop, replace it and parliament will vote for it and leave the rest of May's deal in tact.

no... the actually messaging is that unless some on the UK side has a plan as to what to do with the Irish Border that isn't in convention of the Good Friday agreement... what is the point of talking...

remember that the UK wide "backstop" is the solution the UK government came up with.....

remember the EU suggested that NI only keep within the single market.... and that was going to be the plan until the DUP threw a strop.....

this tory government are trying to "jedi mind trick" people into thinking that if they don't get everything they want... then it will all be the EU's fault

the harline brexiteers are trying the set up the EU as the fall guys...

If the Eu choose not to come to the table then what else can the uk do?

Seriously , what do they do ?"

May’s deal was lawfully negotiated by people appropriately authorised to do the job. The fact that it has not passed through Parliament is not the problem of the E.U., it is the problem of the UK Parliament.

This is the same Conservative Government that is sitting. It is absurd that the current version of the Govt feels entitled to disown an agreement negotiated by their own representatives just because of political power plays in Parliament.

This is just a game for these cunts. Why the fuck are they even on holiday right now? Absolutely no sense of duty and responsibility.

They all need a reality check and realise that passing the WA is just phase 1 - do get the fuck on with it instead of now proposing to waste countless knows how many more hundreds of billions on a cock waving competition.

The simple fact is that it was us, the general public that voted to leave the EU.

Democratically, unlike our elections, this was simply 1,300,000 more British people wanting to leave than stay.

And the vast majority had no idea that there would be so much red tape involved. They believed it should have been a simple withdrawal, a no deal if you like.

The fact that it’s taken three years to get a PM who will deliver what we voted for is abysmal. If he had been in charge from the off we would have left when we should have done, and whatever would be would be.

I’m old enough to remember 1975 when we last had a democratic vote and it was to stay in the common market, the precursor for the EU. And that’s what we did, there weren’t protests or massive fall outs in parliament. Other than that odious twat Corbyn saying he didn’t want to be a part of the European Union! Strange but true.....

I'm cynical anyone voted with no deal in mind. All that was talked about was a deal. It's why all this they need us more etc etc kept getting spouted.

And the reason a deal (which was at the time pretty much a trade deal) was being discussed so is because no one really paid attention to the Irish border.

That's not red tape. That's a real issue thats not easily resolved when squaring off how to have a soft border under wto with no SM no CU.

I have no doubt some people thought it would be simple.

It isn't.

Yet dare anyone say anyone didn't know what they were voting for...

"You would need to be particularly gullible to vote to leave the EU and then blame the EU because you had left.

That’s a very different message "

I must agree, we have a new Prime Minister, a new cabinet and a new direction for the country and if the EU unfortunately will not entertain any notion of trying to find a way forward then it clearly leaves us all in No Deal territory.

If a trade deal could have been negotiated alongside the withdrawal agreement i think it would have gone ok as no backstop would ever been talked about.Unfortunately the eu insisted that the withdrawal be agreed before trade talks. Teresa may should never had agreed to that it where it all went tits up and the eu knew that it would and hoped that it would put such a spanner in the works that we would stay.

"It's UK Law that will remove us from the EU on the 31st October not the EU.

Sure it is, but our government will keep playing the undecided card until we're forced out, that way they can blame the EU for everything, you know, the thing they've been doing for years."

There is no "forced out" though. Our Law states "we" leave 31st October.

"The EU has no obligation to do anything further. They never had any obligation to do anything except protect themselves, and attempt to protect those of us who never wanted this act of self harm. The people that started this should at least have the decency to own this fuck up.

Indeed "

Yep. This. It is utterly obtuse to blame the EU for any of this.

If you have pounds and buying US$... your not going to get as many as you would have done last week

If you have US$ and want to bring them back to GB£... then you will get more GB£ than you would have done last week

Fingers crossed its the latter

What's not to like? Your grasp of arithmetic, apparently.

Six months ago, £1 would get you $1.30. Now it's $1.22.

Is there a facepalm emoji? There ought to be.

Happy to be corrected, but my understanding is an fta isn't enough.

There would still need to be checks for country of origin. Otherwise if we had an fta with the US they could get goods into the eu without tariff via NI.

And there would need to be standard checks eg vets. Or if we go down the eea route we'd need to comply with their rules.

Both of which would cross our red lines.as really these are the bits that the WA is all about.

Yes, my understanding is that the only arrangement that is compatible with the Belfast Agreement is the Customs Union, so that the regulatory controls are identical on both sides of the border.

The more either side diverges, the higher the border becomes.

So a solution is required then that enables the UK to leave the European Union.

Correct documentation in advance allows goods to move freely.

Physical checks do take place, but are targeted or random.

It isn’t the case that everything is physically checked.
