Conservatives suspend sex-charge MP

Bristol East

Charles Elphicke MP charged with three counts of sexual assault.

Now suspended from the Conservative Party.

So the working majority of the new PM, assuming the continued DUP support, drops to three.

Expect that to fall to two after the by-election in Wales.

The civil war in the Conservative Party now shifts 180 degrees.

Mrs May was undone by the UKIP wing of her party demanding pure Brexit.

Will Johnson be undone by the centre-right moderates in his own party?

The numbers did not stack up before for Mrs May. Even more so now for Mr Johnson.

After the wales by election the working majority is only 1. One fewer tory, one more voting against them. Then it only needs one tory - say any of the cabinet resignations - to cross the floor and it is a minority government that cannot do anything whatsoever.

If two of the resignations should cross the floor on Wednesday morning, Boris would be finished before he had even been announced

That's assuming that the "conservative", independents wouldn't vote with the Government.

It will be interesting to see how Boris makes up his Cabinet. If he fills it with the rabid ERG, then expect some possible defections to the Lib Dems. Justine Greening is one that I have in mind.
