Sweepstake - where did the leaker come from?

Speculation time - just for fun...

Boris is an ex Foreign Secretary, Hunt is the current incumbent.

Both of these guys will have people on their team who could/would have had access to this high level communication.

Or would it be someone else? Have official diplomatic channels been compromised and hacked?

Are we going to see Isabel Okeshott (alleged) journalist who is only marginally more qualified than “Are Tommeh” facing a contempt charge to reveal her sources?

My bet is that someone on team Boris has their fingerprints all over this. His rush to condemn the potential “attack” on Press freedoms by the Police over the scope of their criminal investigation seems to a tad too defensive.

But wasn't Boris kept out of certain Intel etc during his time, due to him being a bit of a nob?

"But wasn't Boris kept out of certain Intel etc during his time, due to him being a bit of a nob? "

Allegedly - though he refutes that allegation completely.

I was being a bit unkind to Okeshott - only because I find her hostility rather unnecessary at times and for that reason - I would like to see her given a reality check.

This whole issue has the stench of underhandedness about it and I do really believe that the culprit is very high up although he/she may have played a few players down the line to keep their distance - the truth will come out in the end.

It has all the hallmarks of a Brexshitters hit job as they try to continue their purge through society of MP’s (traitors), Judges (enemies of the state) and senior civil servants as in this case and the Ivan bloke (whose name I forget) previously.

Don't overplay the conspiracy angle.

Odds on it was one arsey individual thinking that they were being "heroic" and "patriotic" in some way.

"I bet it was the Russians, there always up to no good meddling "

This does, actually, work for them very nicely.

A nice not of discord between allies who oppose them is just what they enjoy creating.

After all, even whilst they were taunting the UK with the novichock attack some people here were busy denying their involvement as a "conspiracy".

i think it is someone in the johnson/farage sphere of things (don't think it was a civil servant, but would not put it past either a junior minister, or a political advisor to a minister)... for it to be leaked to oakeshott, who is in with farage/banks/wigmore, who sat on stories linking the leave campaign to certain russian figures

its also well know that farage doesn't really like sir kim, from his days as ambassador to the EU.....

according to the Sunday Times they have a suspect . Someone with access to historical files.

“They went in and grabbed a range of material. It was quite crude.”

Clearly the person would have access to diplomatic dispatches covering a period of time....and up until quite recently.

That would probably put it in the sphere of the FCO or the embassy.

These are not pieces of paper left around for all to see or copy. Therefore the leaker is likely to have a high level vetting status.

It is probable that the number of possibles is quite low.

It is also probable that extremely few politicians have direct access to this material.

My bet is a Civil Servant rather than a politician especially after the Williamson sacking... politicians are probably too wary of the weight of party scrutiny at the moment.

Heathrowish

How about this for a conspiracy theory.

The leak came from material fom our embassy in Washington.

The President wants Johnson as PM.

The US has the capability of virtual burglary of diplomatic data....they hacked the phones of the French President and the German Chancellor after all.

The minister responsible for the embassy is the Foreign Secretary who just happens to be Johnson's opponent in the leadership race.

Such revelations along with eliciting the removal of the Ambassador would cause some embarrassment for the minister concerned.

It may be complete bollocks but that is how the minds of conspiracy theorists work.

Personally, I think it was a Civil Servant either within the USA section of the FCO or the embassy with some form of grudge.

There needs to be an enquiry about underhanded data exchange.

We've had:

Cambridge Analytica whistle blower.

Bloomberg investigating how Farage was likely conducting private polling and using it as internal market trading info.

Now a compromised diplomat.

Stinks of the wrong kind of soft power.
