I'm assuming that you've quoted this from another source?

The quote within a quote was simply clarifying the chap seemed to be focusing on the fact Boris did not say gross or net, and had he had done, there would be no complaint.

The ruling did not seem to say he did not lie, or mislead, simply he was not acting in his public office when he did so. The "lies" came from Boris as a Brexiteer, not Boris as mayor of London.

While it may be seen as a victory for "Common sense" I suspect its not a victory for Boris.

It was all a bit pointless.

The purpose of the slogan was to appeal to people who value the NHS.

Many of whom do not know what £1000 looks like, never mind millions.

So it was irrelevant really whether it was £350m, £250m or £150m - the effect would have been the same.

"That's a lot of fucking money."

I am looking forward to the slogan on the Labour election campaign bus:

"We send £923 million a week to the bankers. Let's give it back to the people instead."

Technically, there's nothing wrong with the bus slogan. Whether the quantum is correct or not, people misconstrued the slogan as saying Brexit would mean giving that amount of money to the NHS. Some people have described it as a broken promise. It says nothing of the sort. It's two statements. The first one is information (although incorrect), the second one is an idea or suggestion.

The billboard is something completely different and that is what people should be looking at. Everyone is looking at the bus with the slogan on the side and look at it from an angle, legally there is nothing wrong with it. But. The billboard which everyone seems to have forgotten about which is being blocked out by the bus is where this shitstorm should be.

Park the bus. Look at the billboard.
