Tariffs on Scotch Whisky exports to the US

It's been reported today that all exports of Scotch Whisky to the US are to be subject to increased tariffs in retaliation of tariffs being imposed by the EU on some imports from the US.

The United States is the biggest export market for Scotch Whisky - and as we all know, it can only be called Scotch if it is produced in Scotland.

Of course, once the UK leaves the EU, such tariffs will no longer apply.

Of course, this still won't stop Jimmy Krankie banging on about an Independent Scotland being a member of the EU

Morristown

It's just a threat at this point. More Trumpian brinkmanship.

“The Scottish government and the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA) urged the United States and the EU on Tuesday to end a trade dispute after Washington threatened tariffs on $4 billion of goods including Scotland’s most famous export.”

“Scotland’s devolved government said it was “deeply concerned” that Scotch whisky was being implicated in the dispute.”

“We are calling on the UK government to make urgent representations to the EU to ensure that Scotch Whisky is not collateral damage to this long-term dispute between the EU and the U.S.,” a spokesman said”

West London

The tariff is against Airbus.

Airbus is here.

We would be included in or out of the EU.

Industry says tariffs are bad.

Jimmy Krankie wants to stay in an organisation which has huge levels of FTAs.

Feels consistent to me.

Trump is temporary. Brexit is permanent.

And yet.... “Scotland’s devolved government said it was “deeply concerned” that Scotch whisky was being implicated in the dispute.”

Newcastle and Gateshead

this all started because the US for no reason decided to put a 25% tariff on Steel and 10% of Aluminium

those will remain regardless of if we are in or out....

that is affecting the UK.....

that is what the EU were originally responding to....
