New public holiday

Living here in Spain, it's noticeable how many more public holidays there are. So to redress the balance, I propose that when Teresa is finally beatified, we instigate a new 'May Day' public holiday.

Has anyone any other good ideas for public holidays?

I think Mr Corbyn wants the patron saint days in England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland to become local bank holidays.

Who does it cost?

One more holiday in the space of 12 months is fine.

I’m self-employed and worked the last two and it was rather nice!

What a lot of people don't seem to realise is that Bank Holidays actually come out of your normal Holiday Entitlement. So if we had an extra one all that would happen is that another day of your Holiday Entitlement would be spent on a fixed day rather than on a day of your choosing.

Personally I don't think we need another forced holiday but I do think there's a good argument to move some of the once we've got. I mean do we really need four Bank Holidays between the end of March and the end of May and then nothing until the end of August? And if we had St. George's Day as well that would be 5!

I'd say get rid of the early May Bank Holiday, move the late May one to Mid June (we could even call it Whit Bank Holiday!),Move the late August one to end of July or (like Scotland) beging of August) and have a new one (to make up for the lost early May one) at the end of September or start of October.

Just a thought.

Well I think we need a public holiday in October to split the year up,no other reason, although would maybe scrap mayday because of what it stands for.

Someone said about public holidays in Spain, well the place is an economic mess and they are the laziest of people I have come across although they are very charming.

Life is not a holiday fact

The EU directive on working time is for a minimum of 20 days holiday per year.....the UK have put into UK law a minimum of 28 days, which allows for the 8 bank holidays on top of the EU directive's minimum.

People are free to take a single day every now and then but why expect to be paid for it?

I like the Spaniards and their lifestyle. But everything is maniana (excuse if I spelled that wrong). Not necessarily a bad thing, but can be frustrating if you want anything in a hurry.

Lazy? We had new double glazing put in, and the guys worked like trojans. Said they would finish at 4 on tuesday and at 3.30 they had cleaned up the villa and were packing their van.

An average of 1 day per month would work nicely, so that some of the longer breaks without bank holidays could be lightened - an extra winter day, say a couple of autumn days and an extra summer day.

Only in 2019 Britain...

Lets not have a bank holiday, we don't want to be like all those lazy people in countries where people are generally happier, do we?
