No idea what date in 1801 we became the UK.

Some are hoping June 23rd will be our Independence Day .

Personally I think it will be remembered more like Nov 5th and in future an effigy of farage will be burnt across this land and much drinking and merry making will occur.

depends on what the effigy is made of bob. Will it not be the case that burning stuff and letting out more global warming gas and smoke etc you'll be shortening the 11year limit we have left before the world ends?

You'd welcome that would you? You'd drink to that would you? That would make you merry would it? Would it not be more green to just burn farage himself?

Awww, you are spoiling my story lol.

The 1707 Act of Union had 25 articles. The first stated from 1 May 1707 the kingdoms of Scotland and England were to be "united into one kingdom by the name of Great Britain". The flags of St George and St Andrew were to be combined.

So it was a united kingdom (not capital letters lol).

Where are all the patriots waving the Union flag today? You know, those who rail against giving up their sovereignty and protesting loudly about union with other countries?

The most enduring union of states in the world is 312 years old today.

Yet no-one celebrates the day England and Scotland gave up their sovereignty to create a new union of nations.

Pah!

I guess it's like being married.

After 312 years together, you kinda take each other for granted lol.

Mind you, there was never any celebration at the time or in the years that followed.

Quite the opposite.

Certainly in Scotland, the ruling class caused outrage by signing away the country's sovereignty in return for some titles in England and a few bags of gold.

The English Army massing on the border probably swayed their mind.

I'm perfectly comfortable showing my Englishnes, Britishness and Europeaness.

I have my 'Come on Englang' George Cross car window air freshener, my Union Jack swimming trunks and towel, and my EU GB bumper plate for when I travel abroad.

I am English, British and European, there is no conflict. And if anyone thinks that's racist that's their problem, not mine but no one ever has.

If you really did have the pride you claim to have in Britain and England you'd fly the flags and show the symbols any how. Stop being such a snowflake. If anyone is calling you a racist it's not because you've flown a George Cross or Union Jack; it'll be for other things you may have said and done.
