Things tend to get so bad socially that people wake up and fight for some progress - then those who grow up or come of age in that better period, are, or become complacent and take their circumstance for granted - many believing there lifestyle is due to their incredible talents... which then allows the corporate world to pull the rope back in their favour for some time - eventually after enough social suffering it leads to a tipping point where society once more fights back for something better. The last generation were the generation that had it easy. This new generation is the generation that will fight for something better. | |||

All whilst being indifferent to the harm we may be causing to the planet and the other species that we share it with. When we shop, each product doesn't inform us of what the incremental cost to the well-being of the world is, nor the increased risks that its purchase imposes on us collectively. We consume, some sparingly such as yourselves, others less so - but from within a system that is designed to perpetuate this consumption, come what may and at whatever cost to the rest of the world. There's minimal global restraint and by and large, it's the whims of the huge corporations/investors that are driving the status quo to continue. With such a tiny window of opportunity to restrain global warming, it would be so wrong if leaders and the rest of us did not do enough to grasp the opportunities that we have to prevent some of the excessive damage that we are inflicting. It's short term pain for us but in order to deliver longer term wellbeing and a healthier planet, this seems to be the only way that we can meet the objectives of sustaining greater numbers of species within a world that is more hospitable and healthy, including for billions of humans. | |||

The young do at least ‘seem’ to be followers of the next fad or gadget. I know many young (ish) people who update their phones constantly and must have the newest devices. But the real pushing of that comes from the corporations. They’re often not even creating things out of demand. They produce junk and needless crap and by changing our culture, sell the illusion that you ‘need’ this thing. Xfactor, big brother, I’m a celebrity - it’s all plastic shite with no purpose. No substance. Characterless morons whoring themselves for their 15 minutes. But it creates a culture of shallow people who value looks and possessions over things which traditionally have been held dear. Like knowledge or a hard learnt skill - or simply spending time talking with your family and friends. I’m generalising here - not everybody falls into this trap. But too many people do. And it’s at all our expense. While people are happy to spend their money on gimmicks and gadgets and sit absorbed with their toys - they are not spending their time paying attention or educating themselves to what is happening around them, and so the other activities of corporations are not interfered with. There is still not yet ‘too many’ people on this planet. There’s a lot of us, but it’s not reached the ceiling yet or anywhere near a limit or even a problematic number. The real problem is the way which we are conducting ourselves, you’re right. We produce way more food than the entire human population requires for example - so there is no food shortage. It’s a issue of unfair distribution. In the West rubbish bins overflow. We waste so much while in other places of the world, they sift through rubbish to find a meagre meal. Energy - we burn finite sources which have found its way onto the planet through plants by way of photosynthesis. The energy in fossil fuels originating from the Sun cast down millions of years ago. But we live in an age where we don’t have any need to drill deep into the Earth for prehistoric energies. We could be doing just as the plants do and taking it as we require in the moment. Every day masses of energy shines on our planet - enough to power everything we do and more. Yet we take such a little proportion of that energy. Corporations - who are really just greedy old men who have very little time left and who don’t give a toss about anything or anyone, and are holding us back because they have psychological problems that make them addicted to money. They can’t accept losing a single solitary dollar, so whilst they can afford to invest in new infrastructure, they are reluctant to when the old stuff still makes them a fortune. It’s a tragic situation to be. If it want money these old men were addicted to - if it was crack or heroin, they’d be sent off to rehab and hopefully get clean. But because it happens to be money, their problem goes unchecked. Their addiction in this particular case protects them from ever having to change, because in this world money is power. They control our media which in turn controls the electorate’s opinion - or often the majority of it. So their interests are secured and if you wish to be elected then you better be a friend to the status quo. You better offer them their ‘stability’... I’m afraid that it may take something terrible to happen to wake people from this dream. | |||
