Those planning to drive to spain via france may need to get two different types of internatinal driving licence permits in the case of a no deal which semms more than likely, which may be as soon as the end of this month, whats your view, they need to apply now.

And the people in the North of Ireland will need a Green Card to confirm they have motor insurance. Many people cross the border several times a day for work and to socialise. This Green Card only gives Third Party insurance compared to the existing cover. Another brexit bonus.

It's a pain. I have acquired both types of permit as a precaution. It's actually, quick, easy and a bargain at #5.50 a permit. The one for Spain lasts 12 months, the other 3 years

And it's still another impact of brexit.

Spot on, and don't forget, all the "fun" we've had from trying to get a deal, is just the start, negotiations on a FTA have yet to start.

All the existing FTA deals may also go out the window.

But blue passports make up for everything.

It's unlikely to worry leavers.

My stereotype of a Brexit voter is not someone who is very worldly and not someone who would be likely to driving their car abroad.

The clear message is that "we still don't know". Other countries in the EU may not bother about green cards or international driving license. I've driven all over the world. When you look at information regarding a particular country it states you need an international driving license. I've never had one. It's all speculation at present.

But they are not going abroad. They are only going to Spain

The Government have said we may need IDPs in the event of a No Deal. I couldnt risk not having one organised as I drive in Portugal and Spain almost as much as I drive in the UK. If it isnt required Ive only wasted a few quid and some of my time. However, I think this is simply another example of the "known unknowns". God knows what unknown unknowns will pop out of the woodwork

It's only a pain if you're not used to having to do it.

Once it becomes just the norm it stops being a pain.

I can remember when we had to get a separate licence for driving abroad.

More importantly, it may put off some folks and have a knock on to the local tourist trade.

I renewed my passport last month and it is red but they could still be blue in the EU just a stupid decision to change colour

I never drive when I’m in Spain, those roads are dangerous and they all go the wrong way round the roundabouts!

Not driving on holiday is part of my holiday, though I have hired cars in most countries I've been to.

I suppose if permits will be required then I definitely won't be renting a car

This is all a bit of a storm in a teacup.

There are plenty of non EU tourists in Spain who drive. They simply get a European driving permit. It takes 5 minutes to fill out the form.

Hold on a second......are people on here really suggesting that Brexit is evil because we may have to fill in a simple form?

This is why most people on either side are sick of the arguments. Project Fear.

No, people on here are merely pointing out that this is just one more small way in which brexit will make life more difficult for every person that has to deal in any way with Europe.

Still waiting to be given one single example of some way in which brexit will make things better or easier.

Nah, I just won't bother paying and applying for something I most probably won't need if I'm going to a major city holiday destination.

If I do a small island for 2 weeks then maybe.

The green card which your insurance company will issue will give you exactly the same cover as you have in the UK!

The remoaners think after the 29th the UK will sink, as the Japs & Germans can't trade their cars with us any more, no food in the shops as much is imported from the EU, no planes flying so you can't go abroad and Teresa May will resign ? Fat chance of any of that happening !!!!

Not sure it will effect many and it isn't really a difficulty is it? Besides, the reversal may be that there will be fewer motoring accidents around my work area in Dover as fewer tourists fail to drive on the wrong side of the road!!!

Plenty of advantages have been quoted in other forums on here.....maybe remainers just are never prepared to listen and never will?

I got two permits last week, one for Spain & one for the rest of Europe.

Guy in the Post Office said they can only order them in batches of 10 so if you think you might need one it's best to get them early.

They're only £5.50.

This is old news OP, there was a thread about this on here about a year ago.

Also what you failed to mention is EU citizens coming to the UK will have to get International driving permits to drive on UK roads, it's a 2 way street and would be reciprocal. You're Swedish aren't you OP?

Well, silver membership is a fiver for 60 days, the IDP is for 12 months, so fab silver membership is actually £24.91 more!

There are 2 IDPs needed to cover the whole of Europe. One lasts 1 year and one covers 3 years, both priced at 5.50...bargain

Yup it's cost the UK billions of pounds, thousands of jobs, and our international reputation. But we'll show those nasty foreigners by making everyones lives just a tiny increment more difficult.

Brexit, the gift that keeps giving.
