What's this new idea of from April 1st access to porn sites will have to go through a passport/driving license verification system?

From memory, another great idea of David Cameron's.

Everyone has to opt-in.

Now why would the establishment want a list of all they may consider to be 'sexual deviants', sexual orientation, race and religion? Can anyone think of a case in modern history where such lists have been used to 'purify' a nation?

Heathrowish

Porn sites are mostly overseas based sites.

So simply use the dark web....something like Tor browser...to get access.

Or am I being naive?

Pretty sure the legislation only applies to UK sites? Can our parliament actually apply laws that effect mainly US based companies without joint legislation from the US?

Also, has any work actually been done on the policy? I mean not to bring up brexit, but I be miffed if the brexit policy is piss poor yet they implement this.

Going on brexit, and the transport secs recent fiasco, and what happened when he was incharge of prisons, and the roll out of universal credit - could this government actually do something as complex as negotiating the world of cyber policing and new physical to digital legislation.

Think it is a age verification system that has to be in place for your ISP to allow access.

Just use a free VPN will get round anything the government put in place.

That was what I thought - NordVPN is about to get a huge market opening up.

"what kind of porn are you watching where your bothered someone knows?"

I don't think that's the issue, it's the potential age verification process that we don't know what will be required.

I know for sure many won't like to be giving their credit card details to unknown porn companies just to access a bit of wank time.

Until it's rolled out we don't know what's going to be needed, that's why a VPN will just remove any form of age verification requirements if your request to access porn comes from a none UK server.

"what kind of porn are you watching where your bothered someone knows?"

I believe the point why the gov tabled the policy was to stop underaged individuals from watching porn.

Whilst this does the purpose, it's not very libertarian for a conservative party, heavy interference from the state on the individual, many adults view it as patronising.

I am going to sound thick- but, is this a serious policy? I mean many outlets have reported on it, I just don't see the coincidental 1st of April date anywhere?
