A bit silly as for most it is an excuse to have a day off school and some fun.

They should join the daily mail campaign and go picking up litter to set a good example

If teenagers do anything that the Daily Mail wants them to, that's when I'll lose faith in humanity.

So because the daily mail is running a campaign to pick up litter then nobody should do it?What a stupid thing to say, surely a campaign to pick up litter is good whoever says it,or do you think we should let litter mount up and for rats to roam the streets?

That is very true, it's a fine balancing act that allows for progress with continuity.

I have no problem personally with countering climate change providing it's done sensibly and efficiently.

Prince Charles got mocked for saying it, but the catastrophe that is Syria had its roots in climate change.

There was a drought that last 6 years and drove huge numbers of people from the land into the cities in search of work.

That huge influx of migrants created tensions between different ethnic groups that spilled over into violence.

The problem is the daily fail has an idea that most environmentally conscious young people want to do.

They fail to realise though they're not backing ideas for this to be a sustainable movement.

They don't endorse a campaign to get the kids a community group to do this via.

E.g, no sensible parent is going to let their kid go picking up litter by their local beck - they tend to have rats in them, needles, broken glass, and cans. It's an accident waiting to happen.

Next, what happens when your kid picks up 2 or 3 bing bags full - that's what each person needs to do for that to be effective really. You need to find somewhere for it to go. Your local open air tip might not send stuff off to an incinerator or recycling plant. More likely landfill - which just created an more concentrated, harder to deal with problem .

In short the daily fail idealises it, as kids in coastal areas or in suburban home counties picking up litter in their idyllic country parks.

They don't really realise that the biggest issue is the working class and middle aged readership not having a great attitude to disposable materials.

In my experience most kids don’t live within walking distance of their senior school and generally will find an alternative mode of transport than being driven by their parents!

Why was this called for? The Daily Mail specialise in bigotry. This is what’s its known for.

The point I’m trying to make, is that encouraging people to pick up litter does not in any way redeem the Daily Mail for the years and years of hate and vile abuse spouted from its pages.

Indeed, freedom of speech works both ways. surely if the Daily Mail is free to print hate, I am free to criticise them.

Why else are they trying to get kids to pick up litter? Other than to try to improve their image.

And yeah it’s a sad state of affairs if it truly is the second most popular paper in the country. This is nothing to be celebrated.

It's left wing hypocrisy, to young to know what there doing in anything that doesn't suit there agenda and poor old picked upon children who should get a vote about Brexit despite them saying hundreds of times that it's to tough a subject for the public!!.

It's just one long virtue signalling load of bullshit, climate change is there life long wet dream not because of the problem itself but the equity share out that is needed to cure it!.

It is these fuckers and there stupid communist agenda that have forced the digging in of the heels of the general public.

Spongerbob got the point, it's a clear case of left wing hypocrisy. Same as when leftists say 16 year olds should be able to vote. But bring up the case of the isis schoolgirl and all you get from leftists is "She was only 16 she didn't know what she was doing". You can't have it both ways.

This thread has been spun around so much people are arguing a different point to put down "the left". Typical.

As for the protest, it was great to see it take off this way, there's so much more our governments could be doing to improve things but they'd rather take backhanders from corporations. It's sad that we need to say we need to be more like China and India on this in terms of taking climate change seriously.

Like I said, some seem to think that because it is argued a 15 yo may not always make an informed decision, that means all 15 yo always are informed. It’s poor extrapolation.

The rightie hypocrisy is where they want to send back any non Brits that break laws, but won’t accept back Brits who go abroad to do bad things.

"This thread has been spun around so much people are arguing a different point to put down "the left". Typical.

As for the protest, it was great to see it take off this way, there's so much more our governments could be doing to improve things but they'd rather take backhanders from corporations. It's sad that we need to say we need to be more like China and India on this in terms of taking climate change seriously. "

Do you know how many coal fired power stations China has built over the last 5 years? I've lost count.

Oh yes, China has done a lot over the years that's why they're springing back in the opposite direction. You can't think "oh they've polluted more so we don't have to do anything" cause quite frankly that's a stupid way to be, our government WAS on the right track with their focus on wind power and schemes to get council properties using solar panels. Sadly that got put aside as the government has been wrapped up in other issues.

Go back to focusing on raising more wind turbines, promote renewable energy, state that every new building needs to have Solar which is connected to the grid, mandate that solar connected properties should also have a storage cell, etc. And that's just the property stuff alone.

We build 250,000 houses a year and there already mandated to have a percentage of PV but they only work during falling sunlight, daylight reduces the output and in this country we have 6 hours of light in the winter, storage cells are a good idea but there's a huge fire risk with sticking them in people's houses, they also are massively dependent on raw materials and require lots and lots of fossil fuel energy to dig them up. we already have more wind power than anybody in Europe there's only so much of it you can supply because it only works when the winds blowing.

No misinformation Dave, and your link is dated Jan 2017, so the information provided in it is past its sell by date.

Read this link and educate yourself dated September 2018, and you'll find construction on many of those power stations in China you think have been cancelled actually weren't cancelled and satellite images prove the ongoing construction at those coal fired power stations.....

www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-45640706

A report dated April 2018 also showed China still plans to increase its coal fired power plants to almost 1,100 gigawatts which is over 3 times the coal fired capacity of the USA.

Well doing nothing would actually be better than doing an awful lot that's ineffective.

I agree there's plenty could be done, the government could stop sitting on their hands and build 25 new nuclear power stations, they could ban the sale of all cars bigger than a smart car, limit air travel to once a year per person, take the road and fuel tax and put it into a fund for energy efficient transport, ban the importing of all none essential food, limit the amount of meat consumed per person per week, ban the importation of clothing cars heavy materials anything that requires shipping.

They all have an instant effect.

It is a shame that this splendid show of young people who are worried about climate change, looked to have been hijacked by the left. Those kids should have been allowed to demonstrate their concerns without interruptions by the likes of Caroline Lucas.

Other than that it was a fine display, one that will hopefully be mirrored by the young people of many other nations. We need global cooperation here, we alone cannot save the rainforest, or stop the decline in the numbers of bees worldwide. The pollution being created by billions of cars has to be cut by the introduction of electric vehicles, but as yet they are far too expensive, and totally unavailable second hand.

Well done kids...

I've wondered if it's IQ .Often it seems to be wilful ignorance because they equate climate change with being politically left .As has been demonstrated blatantly here in this thread.

Where ever I lay my hat

Thought it was good to see kids out there having their voices heard. Easy to dismiss it but I glad to see the younger generation getting engaged.

Do you know what amuses me, people who pretend to be something there not, strong, hard, brave, unable to commit to any thought for fear of being thought worse of, no intelligent thought in their swimming cap head.

That's more like it dave you used to call me bobster all the time...

Happy memories..

We've discussed climate change dozens of time as you know.

Your pessimistic and nihilistic and I'm optimistic on the subject..

Some see a technological solution others see a naturalistic solution to climate change.

I see both as an option.

I hope this helps and apologises for the late reply due to Saturday night shenanigans ..

As I said in my only other post on this thread, I commend the kids for speaking up about climate change. Such a pity that the left have hijacked their day of action, including but not only green (red) loons like Caroline Lucas. They couldn’t just sit back and let them have their day, they had to go wading in and spoiling it for them. Because for them it was just another juicy bandwagon for them to jump on. Such a shame that the children didn’t see the apparent “political support” for what it really was...

Imagine the Green party supporting kids protesting about climate change...

Well the climate change deniers UKIP or the big business over people and the environment Tories are unlikely to support them are they.

"Could not give a shit about climate change ...its happened before ....as if my carrier bag or plastic straw ...or my old diesel wagon is going to save the planet ...what bollocks

This epic level of misunderstanding around the problem can only be deliberate. If you had even a slight understanding of the issue then you would be very concerned. "

Was your epic misunderstanding of the current level of coal fired power stations being built in China deliberate Dave? If you had even a slight understanding of the issue then you would be very concerned.

No, you just choose to deny the level of coal fired power stations being built in China.

As for your throw away quip about big business being over the people, you seem quite happy for big business to be over the people when it comes to Brexit.

"All I'm hearing from the leftists is mumblings of fantasy, utopias and daydreams.

No big problems only the children can save us! With technology we've not even invented, if only the evil capitalists would release the secret Pattent for free energy we could all hug.

I’m really lost what the point you’re trying to make is.

.

The left doesn't have any answers just a load of mumblings and virtue signalling.

The right just get twisted knickers if kids are protesting. Magnificent input from the right wing loons on the climate change problem.

What was it the other week. Outrage over cartoons.. .

Actually I was right at the top of this thread saying it didn't bother me in the slightest.

We're all still waiting to be enlightened oh educated leftist genius.

I've never promised you any quick solution. You seem confused as usual.

Standard though in all your incarnations here.. .

That is a good description of right wingers like yourself, you clearly have no ability to produce any intelligent thought.

Standard tactic from you, losing the argument, got nothing to add, so trying to change the subject. Poor show.
