Most are still at work, but Trump won't approve any budget which doesn't pay for his wall. This means that there have been no new payments made for 20 days. They've only just missed the first wages payments last week, so the real impact on staff has just started.

The bigger issue will be that departments and services will run out of things and be unable to operate, then things will start to shut down. This could easily include emergency services and education too.

Feel for those who aren’t being paid, maybe Donald Trump could pay them from his own funds instead of buying takeaways for a football team as his chefs aren’t working.

With over 300m registered firearms in the US you do have to be surprised that no one (that we know) has made an attempt on his life.

800,000 went without a paycheck last Friday. Food stamps and welfare payments run out this week or next week. The Secret Service, FBI, TSA and Air Traffic Control are being forced to work without pay.

Already TSA agents are ringing in sick and resigning. And a GOP senator has suggested that Federal (TSA) workers should go on strike (a felony) and shut down a hub like Atlanta to force the Presidents hand.

Things are about to get very real for Trump and the GOP.

Meanwhile Giuliani has told the American people he never said there was no collusion and there is no proof that the President knew anything. LoL

Surely if the state isn't paying its staff, then they are in breach of contract? If they turn up for work, but can't gain access then are entitled to payment, however, if they strike then they won't be paid. Trump is another Hugo Chavez and look at the mess Venezuela is in!

"Trump is another Hugo Chavez and look at the mess Venezuela is in!"

No he is not! Trump is doing to the US what Trump did to his employees and contractors in his businesses!

Chavez and Venezuela have been the victim of US sanctions in an economic war since 2014.

The US turned vicious towards Venezuela shortly after it was discovered that they had zero political influence over the country with the world's richest oil resources.

Trump is a bafoon.

But Chavez mis-managed the economy - Trump is doing the same! Both Chavez & Trump also believe they were doing the right thing, but both don't or in Chavez's case didn't have the intellect to run a country!

Isn't there a CIA investigation against trump? Is this a way for him to try and delay that?

Force the investigation to bleed dry as workers run out of money?

POTUS is trying to drain the swamp. But the swamp is fighting back.

Martial law could be next.

It's only one of many..

Doubt the shut down will affect them, latest one looking at obstruction of justice..

The last person who promised to drain swamps was one Benito Mussolini.

How did that work out for him?

He is the epitome of the swamp he threatened to drain.

Someone above said it, he’s treating the people the same way he treated his staff.

No doubt people will be on soon to defend him then point fingers at others or try to change the subject when they’re proved wrong.

there is a difference between a federal worker and a federal contractor....

Federal workers will get all their pay backdated regardless of where you are working without pay at the moment, or being told to stay home.... this was signed into law for this shutdown last week

federal contractors will not be paid during the stoppage... so those business who do work for the government are being crippled.. and also the staff who work for them!

Apparently the couple of days shutdown will affect American national parks for the next couple of years due to them not being maintained.
