He's an absolute knob head there is no other word for him!! it's the way he says things and the fact that he's just a moron. He's trying to run America like a business but the problem is people's lives and wellbeing is at stake.

Anyone that says "trust me" and "believe me" as much as he does is not to be believed or trusted.

Under the Brexit proposal if I was from an EU country and decided I wanted to come to say London to work illegally without going through passport control.... I could fly into Ireland, walk or drive across into Northern Ireland (no hard border remember) and then get a ferry over to the UK mainland. Same would apply the other way ... ferry from UK mainland to Northern Ireland, cross into Ireland and then ferry to France.

This is why I can't see how the proposed system of keeping an open border in Ireland ever works. What this means is we will end up with same argument as in the US between building a wall or having a porous border.

Probably not. For 2 reasons

1. We haven’t got hundreds of tons of drugs coming into Northern Ireland from the republic. Neither have we got tens of thousands of people crossing the border at this point to live in the UK illegally.

2. The countries on both sides worked extremely hard to make a ‘seemless’ border, in order to reduce the tensions that had affected the lives of millions.

I’m waiting for my head to be torn off here.

But what good did Obama do in his time as President? I feel he caused more dissent than Trump but because it was as cool to support Obama as it is to bash Trump it goes under the radar.

You have to think.. Why was Trump elected and if the democrats were that amazing surely but surely they could of chosen a candidate that was infinitely better than the most crooked of them all Hillary Clinton?

With regards to the wall- If it’s going to help America so be it. What harm is it going to cause in all seriousness? If you are a decent enough person why not just go through border control?

My final point is.. Trump will be re-elected mark my words.

Shouldn’t write off an idea simply because Trump has the idea.

In this case though a border wall is a massive waste of public money in America and will only benefit the shareholders of the company who get the contract to build the wall.

trump and his administration were trying to use the excuse that its would stop terrorism and terrorists... and that 4000 people of interest were coming into the us ....

till the bloke from fox news shot that down but correctly stating that people were coming into the country by plane.... and then a journo from nbc news found DHS documents from Border patrol saying the official number of people who came thru the southern border on the watch list was actually 6!!! as a comparison the number of people who came thru the northern border on the watch list was 42!

so they switch yesterday to calling it a humanitarian crisis......

anyway the answer is no... trumps calling bs! he won't get his wall and the republicans are getting edgy as they are getting blamed for the government shutdown!

There is a semi credible theory floating around (i do not subscribe to it) that points out that the Donald has been a Democrat for most of his life, that he said that if he ever was going to run for President he would run as a Republican because their supporters are dumber and easier to con. And that he is a Democrat plant who is in the process of destroying the GOP from the inside.

The only thing we can know for sure about Trump is he lies and does not give a shit how many people he destroys to win and make money.

So many people in the US I'm friends with have pointed out that reliable stats show that between 60-80% of illegals comes via shipping freight.

Realistically trump would be smarter to create more jobs by increasing port security. But he's an egotistical type who likely just wants to see "trump's Great wall" in history books.

If I were the democrats I'd rinse everything I could out of him in exchange for the wall, reduce my workload then in 2 to 6 years time just show that immigration levels didn't drop significantly.

The wall won't change any of the border issues Trump mentions:

Drugs are being smuggled by car through legal posts of entry and not through the desert where he wants to build the wall.

Most immigrants enter the US legally via legal posts of entry but then overstay their visa. The number of immigrants crossing land border illegally has steadily decreases over the last 15years

There's no evidence whatsoever of terrorists entering the US illegally via the Southern border.

The human crisis in detention centres at the border check points is Trump home made through his restrictive immigration policies but also through lack of resources to process asylum claims.

Unfortunately media coverage is often rather one-sided. Just because it's not covered it doesn't mean it's widely accepted. The wall built along the Syrian-Turkish border and the reported indiscriminate firing at Syrian refugees trying to overcome the wall is appalling and shocking. Any wall built divides further and normally worsens a problem rather than solving it. The same applies to Trump's wall, although the situation is completely different, the wall won't solve the existing problems.

"He doesn't appear to be right about the wall and there's not overwhelming support for the idea I think. He's just a self-interested person who wants to get his own way, almost like a child that didn't mature appropriately. It's good to negotiate and have consensus in life and politics, which he doesn't want to do, nor appears skilled at.

No overwhelming support for the wall? Trump won the Presidency in case you forgot and building the wall was one of his campaign pledges he was elected on the back of. "

Yes, with that teensie tiny detail that Mexico was going to pay for it. You know as he kept getting people chanting. And on the campaign website said Mexico were going to pay for in a lump sum.

Details matter. Be it for Trumps pledges or Leavers pledges.

If I said to you I was going to give you a free car you’d probably be quite supportive of that idea. If I then later told you that actually you’d have to pay for it, you might be less supportive of that plan.

Are these polls you refer to the same ones and from the same companies which suggested there would be a 'blue wave' of democrat votes in the mid term elections? The same ones that suggested the Republicans would be wiped out in the mid-term elections? Didn't quite turn out that way in the real world did it as Trump and the Republicans held onto the Senate. That suggests these polls you put so much faith in are really not that reliable.

Funny thing is that walls are both sides so effectively Mexico would get a border wall and US would pay for it...oh the irony in that

Why does this not surprise me? Are you going to address the slight issue of why he needs this funding?

He're his tweet from December:

"Donald J. Trump

?

@realDonaldTrump

Mexico is paying (indirectly) for the Wall through the new USMCA, the replacement for NAFTA! Far more money coming to the U.S. Because of the tremendous dangers at the Border, including large scale criminal and drug inflow, the United States Military will build the Wall!"

The Following is a reaction from The Time Web site ( I'd post a link but a certain user likes reporting links on here):

"However, experts say that this new claim is problematic in a number of ways.

Expecting the USMCA to pay for the border wall misses the point of the trade agreement, says Welles Orr, who worked on the original NAFTA agreement as the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Congressional Affairs under George H.W. Bush.

“Trade agreements are designed to reduce regulatory hurdles,” Orr says. “Most of our tariffs are zero, or very, very low.”

Orr says that he likes the trade agreement because it adds new provisions to the NAFTA agreement — such as addressing e-commerce — and says it’s not necessarily adding new tariffs.

And even if it did add new tariffs, Orr added, they won’t go directly to a wall or other project. Any funds collected through a tariff would go into the U.S. Treasury fund — not to a particular project, Orr says. "“That’s not the way trade agreements work,” Orr says. “Tariffs that are collected by the U.S. Treasury would fund the U.S. Treasury.”

Orr also notes that the trade agreement hasn’t been ratified by the U.S., Mexico and Canada yet, and won’t be until “spring at the earliest.”

The final agreement still needs to be formally ratified by the United States, Mexico and Canada — including by the now Democrat-controlled House. Passage may be months away.

Both the new Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and his predecessor are strongly against the border wall — and the political situation in Mexico makes it very unlikely that the country would fund such a wall, says Juan Carlos Hartasánchez, a trade analyst who has worked with Mexican banks and companies.

“From my position, it’s a stretch to say the USMCA in any way would be able to fund a border wall,” Hartasánchez says.

Like the preexisting NAFTA agreement, USMCA includes portions that would benefit all three countries. The one element that could be said to advantage American manufacturers is the auto parts segment, which would increase the ratio of parts in a car that need to be built in the United States, Hartasánchez says.

However, Hartasánchez argues that it’s unclear how much Mexican manufacturers would actually be paying. Manufacturers would typically work to avoid such a tariff by adjusting their supply lines — and might pass the cost of a tariff off to consumers.

“It’s unclear who would pay for it. It might be the American taxpayer, who is paying for a more expensive product,” says Hartasánchez.

Thanks.

Map to create revenue either the consumer is paying more or the Mexican companies are taking a margin hit. Or a bit of both.

But either which way, the new trade deal is being used to “help reduce competitiveness” across borders as a way of punishing them.

Doesn’t bode well for any new deals we do. Especially as we get upset so with bullying.

"There's no sea around america that they could maybe use to get in?

Trump is a racist, misogynistic idiot who is happy to sexually offend and assault women. If you think he has any good ideas, well... If trump was a racist why do so many black people vote him in? He supports his own county and it’s working class unlike our country which is full of toffs and *flakes "

Maybe look into why people stay with their abusers and don't leave? There's some very enlightening information out there.

"Turkey built a wall between them and Syria. Its patrolled by military vehicles funded by the EU. No-one seems to have a problem with that but as soon as Trump wants to build one there's global uproar

Thats because 90% plus of people dont know that because the media hardly mention it

Funded by the EU, so much for the EU building bridges, not walls.

Didn't Trump say the following about "a wall" once:

"You can climb it regardless of how tall it is, go around it, go under it and go over it" ? Before his rhetoric on the border situation!"

Yes he did. Seen the video doing the rounds on facebook.
