So, a secret UK Government-funded infowars unit based in Scotland sent out social media posts attacking Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party.

But no word from the main media outlets. Funny that.

Yes, I read that here in Scotland on the front page of the Sunday Mail.

The Foreign Office funding an obscure company in Scotland to engage in "fake news" wars with the Russians.

(The Foreign Office being the sponsor of MI6).

Not a clever thing for them to do, to engage in British politics in a partisan way.

Emily Thornberry MP, Labour’s Shadow Foreign Secretary, responding to media reports that a government-funded Infowars operation has been engaged in political attacks against Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party, said:

“It is one of the cardinal rules of British public life that official resources should not be used for party political purposes. So, it is simply outrageous that the clearly mis-named ‘Integrity Initiative’ – funded by the Foreign Office to the tune of £2.25 million over the past two years – has routinely been using its Twitter feed to disseminate personal attacks and smears against the Leader of the Opposition, the Labour Party and Labour officials.

“And this cannot be dismissed as something outside the Government’s control, given the application for funding agreed by the Foreign Office last year stated explicitly that it would be used in part to expand “the impact of the Integrity Initiative website…and Twitter/social media accounts”. So the Government must now answer the following questions: why did the Foreign Office allow public money to be spent on attempting to discredit Her Majesty’s Opposition? Did they know this was happening? If not, why not? And if they did, how on earth can they justify it?”

and yet despite this government funded fake news company pushing out post truth alternative facts in order to undermine the opposition, all the latest opinion polls show labour simply shrugging off the lies and falsehoods, and pulling away from the tories to a commanding lead

It isn't the governments money , it is our money , the government are choosing to spend our money on this rather than on our nhs , schools or police

"It isn't the governments money , it is our money , the government are choosing to spend our money on this rather than on our nhs , schools or police"

Same with David Cameron's poxy pro EU £9 million quid referendum leaflet. Complete waste of taxpayers money which would have been much better spent on the NHS.

so that's still 341 million going to the nhs in week 1 of brexit and 350 million every week thereafter according to the promises made by the brexcrement in the lead up to the referendum

HM Tory Government undermining HM Opposition by misappropriating public finances for its own political ends...

Anyone remember Dave 'I fuck pigs' Ca moron telling the world that it 'would not be appropriate' for a Tory Government to apologise for lying to a court in order to have innocent men convicted and jailed to cover up it's part in the supergun scandal?

22 years on and nothing has changed. Corrupt Tories corrupt their Public Offices for party political ends and get away with it. It's long past time to prosecute and jail the criminals! Maybe if a few of them got life (the max for their crimes) the rest would remember who they work for.

I remember it well, the whole episode stank of corruption in high places while innocent people suffered as a result. If it were up to me i would have cameron and his bunch of criminal cronies jailed and the key thrown away.

I don't think you remember it at all!

This all happened in the 1980s, way before the Cameron era, and revolved around the Iran-Iraq war. Whilst the UK agreed not to sell arms to either side, the Government "favoured" Iraq against the the rise of Islamic fervour in Iran.

Certain arms suppliers were shown a blind eye in order to sanction bust. Government and civil service became embroiled in a murky world, which the Scott enquiry, set up by John Major, exposed rather spectacularly well.

'David Cameron has told Edmiston that a formal apology would not be "appropriate" and that James should be satisfied with his record award. The Ministry of Justice has said there are no plans to re-introduce the wrongful charge scheme.

Kormornick, who as I have already mentioned has written an account of the saga with Edmiston, describes the decisions as regrettable and says the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Matrix Churchill case was a golden opportunity finally to draw a line under the whole affair.

Geoffrey Robertson QC, Henderson's defence counsel, recently described the way the Dunk and Edmiston case was conducted as "a massive abuse of power". Pressure was put on witnesses not to give evidence. "Memories are short and people may forget what happened," added Robertson.'

James Edmiston had nothing to do with the supergun. He was MD of Sterling machine guns. A consignment of his guns was seized at London docks, marked up for export to Jordan.

The Government had chance to apologise to him when he was compensated in 2008. Charles Clarke refused to do so.

It was all part of the same scandal.
