Let’s be honest why do we trust politicians?

They lie take us to war, they don’t tend to carry out a normal job as they are career politicians nowadays. Is this what Oliver Cromwell intended ?

Nope ...

So is it time to think again?

So I have to ask the question do you trust a politician?

If not why are we voting for them then?

There are a couple of politicians I trust to an extent Stephen Lloyd is one of them.

We are voting for them because they're the best we've got.

I don't trust any of them, but I'm more inclined to trust those who have had real life experience than those who have just been career politicians. I don't think there is a single one in any party in this country who truly puts the country first though.

But a society needs decision makers and most people always look to others to lead, so anyone who steps up becomes a politician for better or worse.

I'd love to be able to comment on this thread!

But I will say that most politicians go I to politics with good intentions, and those that stick to their guns and carry on fighting for what they believe in soon loose out as they fail to remember in order to carry on fighting- they need to get voted in again at the next election.

The ones that jump on the popular bandwagon tend to stick around longer

I don't trust politicians of any party, they cannot be trusted, i wouldn't trust them as far as i can spit and thats not very far at all. They wouldn't understand the meaning of the word Democracy if it hit them between the eyes, they are blind to reality, self obsessed and couldn't give a damn about the rest of us, the only time they want to have anything to do with us is at election time then when they have got what they want they forget about us for another 5 years. I would happily put the lot of them on a boat, send it out to sea and sink the fuckers and leave them to the sharks.

Although I have often suspected it, what this Brexit process has highlighted is just how uninformed many, many politicians are about the very critical issues that affect the country at large and therefore also their own electorate.

None of us could expect to get a job for which we are completely unqualified to do, but yet we are ok with politicians being promoted from the benches to ministerial and even secretarial positions without knowing anything at all about their brief.

I hope that this fuck up that we are in the middle of right now will at least have the positive effect of getting people to no longer accept that we can have complete dicks servingnin high office.

Politicians consistently come bottom of the league in every opinion poll about who the public trusts, followed closely by journalists.

Doctors and nurses are at the top.

Having lobbied my MP about you know what, I think I can trust him to do the exact opposite to what common sense should be telling him to do. He is probably a village idiot.

Good for you! I have also lobbied mine, he is a leaver and I have informed him that I expect him to do what's best for the UK as a whole. Should he continue to promote a hard brexit ok. BUT if brexit fails then I intend to organise a revolt against all who promoted leave to be accountable. So for his sake it has better work - and he's not getting years to prove it - 12 months max!

So far we all seem to be in a majority that we don’t trust the people who govern us, correct?

So if this is a democratic society why do we put up with it?

Surely at the next election we need a box that says none of the above. This would prove that we don’t trust these people to lead us?

I think we need a new choice, a party that is genuinely for what’s right for us the people?

Societies have tried fascism, doesn’t work, communism, it doesn’t work, main middle of the road parties all over the world are corrupted by money, it doesn’t work.. what’s the alternative??

I think what most people realy mean when they say they don't trust politicians is politicians aren't doing what they want.

But no politician can do what everyone wants. Let's take BREXIT as an example.

In 2012 Cameron said he'd include a referendum on the EU in the next manifesto. I didn't want him to do that but he did. Should I trust him to do what I want - no. Should I trust him to do as he said - yes.

In 2015 GE having a referendum on the EU was in the Conservative manifesto, Cameron won and held the referendum. Should I have trusted him to do as I wanted - no. Should I have trusted him to do as he said - yes.

After the referendum Mrs May said she would try to deliver on leaving EU. I didn't want her to do that. Should I have trusted her to do what I want - mostly no. Should I have trusted her to do what she said - mostly yes.

We have to remember that just because a politician is not doing what we want does not mean they're not doing what they said.

I like one or two but wouldn’t trust any of them. As for whom is the least trustworthy? I would say it’s a toss up between Corbyn and May. A right couple of James Hunts if ever there was.
