Information Commission clears Leave campaign of any wrongdoing

The Information Commission has cleared the Official Vote Leave campaign and also the separate Leave.EU campaign of paying data firm Cambridge Analytica any money.

Remainers claimed that Brexit campaigners had broke the law with Cambridge Analytica but this was ruled out by the Information Commission yesterday.

The Information Commission said it's probe into Vote Leave "revealed no evidence of the unlawful processing of UK personal data". It also ruled that Leave.EU had "no working relationship with Cambridge Analytica".

Good to see that justice has finally been served on this matter and remainers claims have been shown up for the bullshit they always were.

"Weren’t leave.eu fined £135,000 for data misuse just yesterday. "

Not in relation to Cambridge Analytica, no.

"Weren’t leave.eu fined £135,000 for data misuse just yesterday.

Not in relation to Cambridge Analytica, no. "

So they were guilty of some data misuse but not other data misuse.

I am not sure that this is your best point...

Try reading the OP again. The Information Commission has cleared both Vote Leave and Leave.EU of any wrongdoing or collusion relating to Cambridge Analytica. This is what the thread is about.

"Information Commission clears Leave campaign of ANY wrongdoing"

that statement is deliberately false ... leave.eu has been fined £75,000 for criminally using third party data that was stolen from 350,000 people and then illegally shared by banks

"funny how the bbc were allover that when the story broke originally yet heard nothing on the radio about this clearance"

Perhaps because there are multiple investigations going on and Leave.eu have been fined already. So that one facet of the investigation came up with nothing, isn’t exactly front page news.

The BBC and others report news. Reporting that a political organisation broke election law is news; reporting that a political organisation didn't break law isn't really news, it's just how it should be.

And I don't think there's bias, only the other day there was a news item saying People's Vote was being looked into for miss use of data too.

You are clutching at straws when you find comfort in discovering some of your chums did not break the law.

Tell me about it, the likes of the BBC were shouting about this story from the rooftops when the (false) allegations were being made. Now the allegations have been proved false and no evidence has been found we don't hear a peep out of them to put the record straight.

It's not clutching at straws, it's a matter of putting the record straight. Remainers were all over linking Cambridge Analytica to the Leave campaigns like a rash and were shouting false allegations from the rooftops. Don't be surprised now then when Brexit supporters are vocal about it being bullshit and when no evidence is found and the allegations are proved to be false by the Information Commission.

It hasn't been reported much. It is mainly taken from the actual report from the ICO. Google for "Investigation into the use of data analytics in political campaigns" and you'll find the original PDF on their website.

As usual Centy has taken it out of context. The report states that Leave.eu met with CA several times, held joint press conferences with them, etc. And that CA only didn't take it further with Leave.eu when they didn't get selected as the 'official' campaign. But the report does point out the links with AIQ and Leave.eu and that AIQ, CA and SCL are basically all one and the same. Oh and points out all the illegal use of data by Banks and Eldon Insurance.

So yes, the fact that the ICO found that CA had no actual working relationship with Leave.eu is true.

And true that the ICO was not able to say a lot of stuff to parliament yesterday as the National Crime Agency is still investigating allegations of criminal acts by Banks with regards to the source of the funds.

So, does seem like a very strange thing for Centy to be crowing about. Actually, scratch that, it is not strange at all.

Realised that now.

On the point of no payment, it seems there is an outstanding question of whether leave.eu paid for analysis on behalf of UKIP. It’s outstanding as ukip are appealing (for the second time) something. Which I don’t quite follow.

And I agree with whoever said it shouldn’t be newsworthy that a uk company didn’t send data to Canada. This felt like one of the smaller allegations made. “This data breach was entirely made in the Uk”. Suppose keeping it on these shores is in the spirit of brexit.

Indeed. Local crimes. For local people.

Your getting into dangerous territory where everything by everybody who has a different opinion to you and yours are telling lies! It comes down to truth and truth IS truth unlike accross the pond. If respective legal bodies are making statements - then I'm more inclined to believe them over you!

I quoted what the Information Commission said in the OP. It's not my own personal opinion it's what they actuslly said after their investigation into alleged (false) links between Cambridge Analytica and the Leave campaigns.

Central

It's right that these organisations are fully and properly investigated, when significant amounts of money is invested in persuading people to vote according to the preferences of a minority of people and who may not divulge all of their own biases, political connections, financial conduits and more - whilst potentially employing deceit - and not providing full and credible information to parliament or regulatory bodies. Thoroughly disreputable practices that are abhorrent to anyone of decency who believes in honest, transparent democracy and sovereignty.
