I prefer to call him little Napoleon. He's talking tough on Brexit to distract from his own failings at home. His domestic poll ratings in France are worse than his predecessors Hollande which speaks volumes about how shit he's turned out to be as President.

"Hasn't Macron got a lower approval rating than Trump?"

Probably - it's about 30%!

The French don't want the changes but he's only following the Tory and Republican stance - lower protection employment laws. He's trying to modernise and make it easier for business. French don't want zero hour jobs - only proper jobs with all the perks! Beaucoup de bonne chance!

I had a similar clear out around the time of the referendum. It feels good to remove negative and or right wing people. I know that it doesn’t solve anything, but as you get older the fight against them seems more futile. Haha. Not that I’m completely jaded yet.

I am naturally Conservative but I did vote for Tony Blair’s Labour first and second time of Sking and I also voted For Nick Clegg’s Lib Dem Administration in 2010.

I suppose I am a centrist, middle of the road kind of person who prefers that life goes on with minimal Govt interference and we all just get on with our day to day lives.

David Cameron changed everything for me, but also as I got older I guess it became more socially aware that maybe life isn’t as fair for some people, despite all their best intentions.

It's not diverting. Sarkozy served one term and so far Macron has too. You can only level criticism at Sarkozy for serving one term if Macron gets re-elected.

It's a matter of simple logic isn't it. If Sarkozy had better domestic poll ratings than Macron, and couldn't get re-elected, then it should be telling you Macron won't be re-elected for a 2nd term either!

How do you know - polls mean nothing? It depends on a number of factors - France isn't the same election system as UK - Macron was not the most popular candidate in the last election - yet he won!

But what you said about Sarkozy being more popular than Macron would automatically mean he wouldn't secure a second term! I pointed out to you that Macron was not the favourite but won the election. So what do you base your theory on that he wont win a second term? You would probably be correct in your assumption if France had the same electoral process as the UK - but it hasn't - therefore you cannot predict the result until your in the elections! Basically what I am saying is that your knowledge of the French system is crap - but before you start spouting do your research!

Heard it all before. Was told by the resident yank Fabio my knowledge of the American system was crap, when I predicted Trump would win the primaries in 2016, then guess what, Trump won the primaries. Was told the same thing again when I predicted Trump would win the Presidency and guess what, Trump won the Presidency. We'll see who's knowledge is crap about the French system after the next election, and you seem to be far to over confident about Macron winning a 2nd term (as Fabio was about Clinton beating Trump).

Well I was not saying he was or wasn't going to win a second term - I don't know!

But your the one who knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING! Are you the CEO of mensa by any chance? What amazes me is that your not P.M. of the UK because with all that knowledge you would be the best, most intelligent, most successful P.M. we have ever had - and that doesn't take into account your sexual achievements!

"French police arrest six right-wing extremists suspecting of plotting to assasinate their president."

Only a French TV channel had claimed a link to the far-right. Official sources are saying nothing on the matter.

"Is Monday the day release day for the criminally insane rantings of communists?.

Love the way you label any non-racist, or any non-facist as an insane communist.

don't sweat it .... it's just the usual righty tactic of spouting nonsensical non-sequiters around when they have been presented with irrefutable truths

It just makes them look massively stupid, to be fair. Although apparently the far right pride themselves on their lack of intellect.

I’m glad there’s some normal people on here. Sometimes when you read the politics section it feels like we’re on a FabNazis site.

It does feel that way sometimes. I don’t meet any of these far right UKIP people in real life so this website feels like it’s plagued with them.

I recently had a massive clear out on social media of all Tommy Robinson Fanboys, radical Brexiters and other assorted extremists. I can now read my Facebook feed without wondering if people are mentally ill or on some kind of drug-fuelled orgy of hate.

The worrying thing is that at one time, I presumably had something in common with these people."

LOL

I haven't done that yet. I actually quite like reading their posts because it gives me an insight into what they think (I'm using the word "think" in the loosest possible way). Unfortunately I do know what I once thought I had in common with these people. What I'm not sure of is who's moved more from where we were then; me or them?

There's a long way to go for Macron and France. But the thing that really amazes me is that Macron is getting most criticism from the right, not just on here, when he's actually trying to do in France is bring in many of the same type of reforms that Mrs. Thatcher brought in to the UK in the 80's. I guess these days if you're not anti-EU, anti-immigration and anti-foreigner you're just not right enough for some.

Macron has now lost a key pro EU ally in the turtle necked German, as she's chucked the towel in and won't stand again. At least Merkel knows when she's beat.
