Where has all this fuss about a Canada Trade Deal come from???

Has the U.K. collectively lost its memory?

Exactly a year ago, Michel Barnier released a graphic showing exactly that a Canada deal is where the UK would be because of Theresa May’s red lines. It was exactly because of this that the EU demanded the N Ireland backstop position in the subsequent December Phase 1 Agreement.

Barnier was totally derided by David Davis (now the No 1 promoter of the Canada deal) and by other leading Brexiters. It was called a ridiculous graphic and a waste of his time.

I saw a tweet yesterday from Barnier saying that Canada +++ was always on the table and still is.

A Canada-type agreement with additions fot security, foreign policy etc

When people talk about that Canada+++ deal, those pluses are in favour of UK or EU? UK politicians think it will be an advantage of UK, however I think what Barnier meant was payments to EU and other concessions made for EU's advantage

So by all accounts the latest 'new' brexit plan from David Davis just happens to be a virtual copy of what Labour proposed 2 years ago. Now can anyone remember how he and the rest of the tories described those proposals 2 years ago?

The problem with Labour's BREXIT plan, along with May's and Davis', that they are still cherry picking what they like about Europe without being willing to take the rest. Non of them will be acceptable to the EU and they've said this many times. There are only three options.

1) In the EU/EEA/EFTA. (with free movement)

2) A comprehensive FTA. (without free movement)

3) No deal

The problem with Labour's BREXIT plan, along with May's and Davis', that they are still cherry picking what they like about Europe without being willing to take the rest. Non of them will be acceptable to the EU and they've said this many times. There are only three options.

1) In the EU/EEA/EFTA. (with free movement)

2) A comprehensive FTA. (without free movement)

3) No deal

It won't result in "frictionless" movement of goods though as we have at the moment and here is why:

The current 4 freedoms are goods, capital, people & services - why these 4 - because that's the ONLY way frictionless will work!

Example:

A lorry has a load of clothing so that comprises of:

1. Clothing - goods

2. Someone owns those goods - capital

3. They contract a hauler to transport the goods - service

4. The driver - people.

You need all 4 freedom's to make it work otherwise checks - simples!!!

I did not say it would work, I said the latest idea is one that the Tories said was unworkable and ridiculous 2 years ago. I seem to remember the Tories pulled the same con trick a 18 months back when May stole a significant part of Labour's previous manifesto after claiming it was loony leftist tripe in 2015. Nothing quite like repeating cons, something the Tories do all the time.

You solve only 1 issue (people ) so what's your solution for the other two- and in under 6 months?
