"'Have people inspected' at Irish border after Brexit, says Rees-Mogg , He suggested having people stopped and checked like was done during the troubles , https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/aug/26/have-people-inspected-at-irish-border-after-brexit-says-jacob-rees-mogg " it is interesting that he should say that..... because it is his "amendment" to teresa's chequers plan (EU withdrawl bill) that specially states that "no new equipment can be put on the northern ireland border..... so he is bascially talking out of both sides of his mouth... and basically telling everyone that brexit means more to him than the Good Friday Agreement

"Who is putting out the story and why? Why one "three word quote"? When you work out who is behind this, you work out what is going on. " "Ireland would not be a free for all. It would be perfectly possible to continue with historic arrangements to ensure that there wasn’t a great loophole in the way people can get into the UK, to leave us in as bad a position as we are already in... There would be our ability, as we had during the Troubles, to have people inspected. It’s not a border that everyone has to go through every day, but of course for security reasons during the Troubles, we kept a very close eye on the border, to try and stop gun-running and things like that" That's what he said according to the article quoted by the OP

No, the question was who is drawing attention to it and why?

"rees mogg is an intelligent person misguided in my eyes but he has a long view he is following. We can only hope at this stage there is some merit in it, but I think firstly he is a business man" Misguided? I think he is absolutely unequivocalic and clear. He is rich, he will be richer at the expense of poor people whom he will continue to exploit. As soon as he and the Tories are released from their obligations to workers rights and environmental protection etc on 29th of March, and they start to change legislation freely, he will be even more rich and powerful. I think he is very intelligent, purposeful and knows exactly what he is doing.

That's the kind of Brexit HE wants. So if the UK doesn't feel like the environment then fine. We can follow our hero Trump and aim for leadership in polluting our own skies and rivers and land. No irony in that. Part of the oil industry’s strategy. And as they sponsor the Republican Party, that’s all part of their plan.

"its all part of the bannon playbook.... rees-mogg talks about "inspecting" people crossing the border like during the troubles farage claiming barier wants an active IRA basically what they are showing is they want brexit at any cost and be damned the good friday agreement because it gets in their way... you know they are happy to sacrifice NI in their little englander dream... thats why rees-mogg won't actually go to the NI border and speak to local people..... " Or just in case he gets shot?
