"I had a post up about this a few days ago. As long as sectarian marches are permitted like this then you will always have unrest. Stand up to them and ban their marches. What are they going to do? They might have a week of angry and possibly violent protests but in five years time it'll be all finished. Keep permitting these marches and you're going to see this violence forever. Stand up to them. " I don't think it's a solution , northern ireland has a history of oppression , if we are to learn from the mistake of the past oppression of minority groups don't work ,

The orange order were set up to keep the protestant ascendancy in Ireland. Look at how the protestant ascendancy treated the Catholic population. There was never oppression of the protestants in the north. There was violent acts against but they were always in power and really oppressed the Catholic community. Nowadays that's over and its time to build bridges. A step that has to be taken is banning sectarian marches, bonfires or any public display of sectarianism. It wouldn't be tolerated against Islam, Judaism etc... Imagine the Irish community in London deciding to march down streets seeing IRA songs, anti British songs and had a huge bonfire burning pictures of the Queen and her family and British flags. They would get some beatings and rightly so but it wouldn't be allowed in the first place.

"I have been watching here for the last few days watching posts about Protest about trump in London . Brexit , And even death penalty in India , Meanwhile northern Ireland is in uproar , last night alone 70 petrol bombs thrown at police , 4 arrested one for attempted murder , Police firing batton rounds at civilians involved in violence , Cars being hijacked and burnt out on the streets ! I makes me ask the question dose any one in mainland UK give a fuck about northern Ireland ? Why cry about the possibility of the union breaking up when the suggestion of a United ireland is brought up ?????" The answer to your question is very simple. The amount of money that the UK government pumps into Northern Ireland proves that they care a lot. In relation to any issues that occur during marches I am sure that the police are more than capable of dealing with them. I am in Belfast now and it is a lot safer than most parts of the UK. Northern Ireland has always had a very low crime rate.

Can you point out the last time 200 petrol bombs were used in a week in another part of the UK?

"Its the 12th, theres always violence. Its Protestant bigotry day, even plenty of protestants hate it but the bitter minority will still keep marching and making bonfires burning Irish imagery." Most of the violence that has been going on the past several weeks has been Catholic attacks on the fountain estate in in Londonderry. Hardly protestant bigotry.

If you are wishing to make a comparison to damage done , compare the events of the last few days ( in a very small number of areas in Northern Ireland) where as far as I am aware no one was seriously injured to the number of people killed in London alone this year in drug related gang fights . Events in Northern Ireland fade into insigifence when compared to the number of deaths in London. Northern Ireland has a low crime rate and is a very safe place to live .

I will amit there is always good and bad on both sides but i know for a fact that the protestants that cause the whole trouble over the so called 1 day (12th) they come out once a year, there is 100s of parades through the year with none casuing trouble apart from the 1 day prods, every relgion has its right to celebrate there culture but theres always the select few who ruin it on both sides, even st patricks day is runied ffs " They are marching to intimidate and glorify sectarian bigotry about killing Catholics and you think thats ok because it brings in 8millon pounds?

It was the nationalists doing the rioting, not those marching. Whereas today it's the nationalists burning symbols of unionism and protestants in Newry and Protestants intimidating Catholics in areas of Belfast.Violence here is not one sided; the Irish pretending it is is hardly going to persuade unionists to peaceably accept a united Ireland.

" You need to check your history before you come out with comments such as "there was no oppression of Protestants". To go back a long way,the main reason for Cromwell coming to Ireland was to stop the slaughter of protestant settlers by the native catholic population. Non Anglican protestants e.g. Presbyterians were unable to take government posts etc in 19th century Ireland. In post partition Ireland people that were in the British armed forces during WW1 and WW2 were unable to get government jobs. That was only changed in the last few years.

"The 12th of july parades is enjoyed by all, i no first hand of 7 catholic family who never miss the parade they love the atmosphere and have many friends over the years, the parade is quite equal to all " Well said. I'm no apologist for Loyalist violence but the "trouble" arising around mid July was nationalist inspired. To blame the orange order for the violence is perverse; it's not even at them that the violence has been addressed.
