Yup, clusterfuck alright!

A murdered British citizen, 4m people using food banks, NHS on its knees, railways not fit for purpose, huge budget cuts for councils, etc.

Yet, all the political bandwidth is being consumed by tory boys stamping their feet and a PM who can't square a circle no matter how hard she tries.

And the victims in all this? All of us. And all we can do, is just sit and watch our country, daily life and its values completely falling apart.

The whole world looking at our mess and thinking: "How the fuck do we trust those muppets to do deals with?" (and/or) "Kerchiiiiing! We'll take you for all you've got!".

Brexit in action. And we haven't even left yet.

Now what? The clock's ticking is getting louder and all we've got to show for it, is bad, worse and worst.

Guess what? You agree with today's Guardian editorial:

"Never at any stage do the Brexiters ever accept the practical duty of producing a detailed post-Brexit plan. Instead, David Davis smirks through meeting after meeting, Boris Johnson gabbily chases cheap headlines, Michael Gove spins a wordy web of courteous waffle and Liam Fox insists that black is white and white black. Mr Davis said this week that Mrs May’s ideas would not work. So, what might work instead? There was, predictably, no answer from Mr Davis. There never is. The Brexiters created the mess and the burden with which Mrs May has to wrestle. But it is never, ever, their fault. Nothing ever is. It is only, ever, Mrs May’s fault – or someone else’s fault: the civil service, the judges, business leaders, the Irish, the liberal elites or Brussels.

Before the Brexit vote and since, the Brexiters have never put forward a detailed plan of their own. They did not do so this week. They spent 12 hours at Chequers not doing it. They won’t do it next week either. They don’t do plans. They only do fantasy. They spun a fantasy of takeover by Brussels; now they spin a fantasy of liberation from it".

"stop a successful brexit"... I really do wonder about you sometimes. Considering the current party in government can't decide themselves what Brexit they want, how do you think it is going to be successful. Yes, it sometimes seems like the opposition party has fallen asleep at the wheel, but to be honest, they aren't exactly needed at the moment as the Tory party has it's own built in opposition party to everything it tries to do at the moment.

So the ERG are gonna be dripfeeding resignations in order to put pressure on May to either change the Checkers agreement into a more hard version of brexit or to scare her into not accepting any more concessions towards it in the *negotiations* with the EU, in which case their desirable outcome of "no deal" would be her only option (*and* they'll be able to blame the EU for it - 2 birds, 1 stone).

They don't really want a leadership challenge because, despite having the numbers for vote of no confidence, May would win the leadership challenge (she needs 159 to support her and ERG has 70-80 *at best*) or they'd trigger a general election.

If I was Theresa, I would call their bluff big time, rather than having a gun pointed at my head continuously until the 30th of March, when they'll kick me out anyway. I'd call a snap general election (yes, another one!) where I'd either win and get them off my back or Corbyn becomes PM, and then I look at the ERG and ask "how do you like them apples?!". They need to be put in their place because they're getting too big for their boots. Holding a PM and the whole country hostage like that, is criminal, especially at this stage.

A couple of huge gaping holes in your theory. Firstly if there was another general election the moderates in the Tory party wouldn't allow Theresa May to lead another election campaign against Corbyn after her disastrous General election campaign in 2017. There is no way the Tory party will allow her to lead another general election campaign. In that scenario moderates would join forces with the ERG to remove her as Prime minister.

You also say that the ERG don't have the numbers to get her out now, but on the 30th of March they'll "kick her out anyway". The numbers will still be the same in March as they are now.

I blame Brexit for getting all the attention (with nothing really to show for it other than making us a laughing stock worldwide) when there are other things that desperately need attention too.

There's no one else right now who'll put themselves forward as a leader, knowing that being PM at this point is political suicide.

As for March, it's not just ERG that'll kick her out. They won't have the numbers (exclusively) then, same as they don't now. The party in general will kick her out because she'd have served her purpose as a punching bag.

I was at a works thing recently, where one of the speakers was a wise old owl (non-political) from the House of Lords.

His very neat take on things:

"Britain was always seen as a stabilising force, the country that intervened to stabilise things elsewhere. Now we are seen as the one that is destabilising."

Had the vote gone the other way - 52 to remain - UKIP would probably be top of the polls right now.

Look at what happened in Scotland.

45 per cent vote to leave the UK.

The SNP normally polled 25-30 per cent.

They held onto the 45 per cent and won every seat bar one at the next General Election.

A 48 per cent vote to leave could easily have swung behind UKIP and trounced everyone.

As it is, I suspect people were persuaded the Conservative Party would deliver and UKIP faded.

The key issue with Brexit is that it does not fit the normal left-right paradigm.

Both Labour and Conservative are torn by it.

Both leaders trying their best to hold together warring internal factions.

The outcome is paralysis at a time when the country most needs unity and outward direction.

There clearly is a strong grassroots cohort who want nothing to do with the EU, and a more astute UKIP leadership would be tapping into that.

That said, this whole shambles has come about because the Conservatives were terrified of seeing their vote drift to UKIP and therefore losing their grip on power.

i don't know what the answer is - but I do know it won't be found in the traditional left/right analysis of UK politics.

May deserved far better from her ministers and MPs but also took on a huge job that was always going to be tough and result in her sacking or convenient resignation, probably after March 19, possibly this year. She should have got this type of plan agreed to before triggering article 50.

The sad reality is that there are many conservative extremists and individuals only there for themselves, who are happy to have severe harm inflicted on the population at large. They'll view it as friendly fire if people suffer job losses, debts, health and other damage, in pursuit of their agenda.

More comment from thee BBC and other news would help to inform people better. As it stands, most people are ignorant of Brexit, the implications and processes etc.

If May is ousted and one of the Brexit extremists replaces her, a General Election is inevitable.

The extremists are a minority in Parliament, they are a minority even in the Conservative parliamentary party.

I do not see any way a Brexiteer cabinet and gung-ho approach to leaving the EU could command a majority in the House of Commons.

No, I suspect the resignations are part of a longer game to position themselves for the opportunity when it arises.

The future of Mrs May is in the hands of the EU. Reject the Chequers proposal outright and we're into meltdown. Compromise to keep her in power (and the extremists out) and the Johnsons of this world are trapped on the back benches for a little longer.

I fear the chequers accord or New white paper as it will be called when eventually published will not be accepted by the EU as it violates the 4 founding priciples - all 4 freedoms have got to be included not just the ones you want. Having said that let's see, we won't have to wait too long - but I think we heading towards a no deal anyway. Barnier says 80% is agreed but it's the most difficult 20% that has got to be agreed.
