Sorry Ben. You didn't grasp the difference. Just had to point it out.

But continuing on. I spoke with Germans in English. And I have German family. Plus I understand Dutch (the language not the nation) which is close to German (language not the nation).

Oops forgot the point. That the English and German rival is one way. I used to goto Germany a lot for work.

In fact speaking to a Frenchman from Paris. That rivalry is gone. Newer generations are not carrying on the rivalry of their elders.

I did grasp it and believe what you say, I have German friends. I was just having a dig at the other guy who chooses to live in a French speaking area of Canada but chooses not to learn the language. Through some sense of superiority I would imagine

Unsurprisingly, you'd be wrong.

When it comes to football the Germans regard the Dutch as their biggest rivals. The schadenfreude when the Dutch failed to qualify was so strong you could almost smell it.

However I do get Geoff Hurst's goal mentioned from time to time. Lots of them still remember that.

Only, speak our language rant

Do you also think the English think they own everything?

"Only, speak our language rant"

Still don’t get your rant. You can’t say anything bad about the English unless you can speak another language.

"Do you also think the English think they own everything?"

Can you explain why you think this may be true based on something I’ve said.

No. Maybe more based on what you didn’t say.
