The UK is in trouble for not paying the right amount of duty on goods from outside the EU coming into British ports.

I guess this highlights some of the potential hazards of "frictionless trade". If it's frictionless, how can we make sure we are collecting the right amount of duty?

That's the EU's interpretation. The UK disputes this, and we are now set for a very lengthy court case.

Another reason to get ot of it, if its good coming into the UK then thats the UK's business.

The problem is that because of freedom of movement of goods means they are then dumped in the EU.

You wonder why so many want to leave the EU,as our government disputes this figure,we are being ripped off.The EU is so complex that nobody really knows what the hell is going on,more crap from the BBC

It's appropriate for it to be investigated and adjudicated upon - the terms are explicit and clear. The benefits of EU membership far outweigh the financial husbandry of customs. The importers should stand liabilities, not the state.
