The Council of Elrond

Since someone tried to close the last one I will open this one

That's the Scottish government position right now correct respect leaving the EU but not the single market and customs union correct?

The Scottish government have said they will respect leaving the EU but the red line is staying in the single market and customs union correct?

Nicola is fighting for Scotland and the UK to stay in the single market and customs union correct?

If UK government try and take the whole UK out of the single market and customs union then Scotland has a mandate for an independence referendum correct?

An independent Scotland can be outside the EU and be in the single market and customs union correct?

I doubt you will answer these though

Yes I know but all those things I said above are correct ?

If not point out what I am not correct about

Nicola has been the only trying to come with a solution and if not she has a right to use the mandate she has

Now lets try this

Now first off i have never denied SNP members / voters some of them did vote to leave the EU

So did anyone ever think that if Scotland did vote for independent the SNP could try to compromise with both side and adopt the Norway style of being out of the EU but have membership of the single market and customs union

That would screw the UK if the UK are hell bend on taking the whole of the UK out of the single market and customs and being a hard brexit

Put it this way Scotland has options not to suffer this hard brexit

The UK government are shitting themselves that they could lose Scotlands money of tax and revenue

Slight problem with that theory, the flow of revenue is from the south to the north.

So Kinky, you are quite confident that an Independent Scotland can pay its way?

No "handouts" from Westminster or Brussels. Just on the revenue you earn through taxation?

Please add in if Scotland joins the EU they won't have T hatchers rebate so will be a net contributor! !!

If Scotland joins the Free Trade Area that will pay the EU and won't even have the 5 MEP as they don't get any representation at all.

Funny enough kinky thinks being in the UK and having mps in Westminster is not democratic

You've been asked to explain that before. Unless they've asked ALL 14 plus million that voted Leave, then you can't make such an absurd remark.

But again, another deflection from the question asked above.

Do you agree that GERS shows you the effect the UK is having on Scotland ?

Money is not devolved that your UK treasury fucking up the money

Now with an independent Scotland will all full control over all powers and levers and of course money so that damn well means no fucking money raised in Scotland through tax goes to the UK treasury

We get rid of trident to saving money there.

If Scotland is such a fucking drain on you why do you wanna keep Scotland in your UK ?

If you truely believe England help Scotland keep a float why is it you dont wanna see that money stay in England and help local services and the NHS ?

Seems in England 88% dont believe the UK is worth fighting for they want their country back lol ah little England

Again if Scotland is such a drain on England why keep us ?

Btw i love how what i said at the very start is been brushed aside as if its nothing

You all asked how would Scotland deal with being out of the UK and EU

Well Scotland could choose a Norway style deal to be outside the EU and remain in the single market and customs union

And considering Norway a country that has 5 million people and has as much oil as we do and they are trillions i profit why is it you believe an independent Scotland of 5 million people cant do the very same ?

A normal Scottish nation (ie normal in the sense that we will be exactly the same as every other nation on Earth) will manage the myriad of issues that befall every normal nation. In the same way that every other nation manages to do.

It's simple. We'll be just the same as every other nation on Earth. This union we have is an abomination that has been copied by not one other nation, ever.

It won't be easy, running a nation never is. But we'll be just the same as everyone else. Unionists are happy for Scotland (and England) to be less than they can and should be.

"Money is not devolved"

Now thats a cop out, it rarely if ever confronts a problem. Just moves away like a greasy snake.

More money is spent than is raised domestically whether devolved or not.

The fact remains that spending is higher than the revenue raised.

" Now with an independent Scotland will all full control over all powers and levers and of course money so that damn well means no fucking money raised in Scotland through tax goes to the UK treasury"

That still not addresses the problem of raising what we spend, that's just brushing it under the carpet.

Of course if we were to ask exactly what the new government would control and how it would operate these "levers", no answer would come.

Its been asked numerous times how and independent Scotland finances would actually look like.

Is there an indy GERS?

An equivalent document that explains the revenue and expenditure in an independent Scotland?

No there isn't!

The nats will tell you everything will be wonderful but will be unable to demonstrate how.

This is the tactic of conmen, snake oil salesmen and untrustworthy carpetbaggers.

" We get rid of trident to saving money there"

How much?

Not much!

Less than £400,000 per annum to the Scottish treasury.

That's less than a John Swinney underspend!

More money is raised in the surrounding economy of Faslane than would be saved.

"If Scotland is such a fucking drain on you why do you wanna keep Scotland in your UK ?"

Latest piece of nonsense, the people that kept Scotland in the UK were the Scottish people, the Scottish people that, in the greatest demonstration of democracy voted to stay in the UK and decisively rejected independence.

It was the people of Scotland that kept itself in the "fucking" Union.

" If you truely believe England help Scotland keep a float why is it you dont wanna see that money stay in England and help local services and the NHS ?"

It's the UK, we all contribute and we all benifited. For example would you expect one part of Scotland that raises more that it spends to assist another part which does not raise that which it spends.

Its called pooling and sharing, and we all put in what we can.

"But hey you will be most welcome in an independent Scotland though"

Judging by your posts on here, I doubt many will be taking that chance!

As it has been explained before trident is expensive over the long term the short term savings are not that much to fill the deficit.

And an independent Scotland would not have all the levers as we don't have our own currency or reserves to set one up therefore relying on someone else's currency !!!

That will have you all stumped on how tobsave your wee UK union

If Scotland decide to be out of the EU but be in the single market and customs union

As it bridges both remain and leave sides in Scotland and shows compromise

I would want to stay in the EU my first chiice but if that was no on the table i would go with being out of the EU and br in the single market and customs union

But then again none of you lot have a solution to see Scotland avoid seeing serious damage from a Uk hard brexit and therefore accepting damage to Scotland thats how much some of you care about Scotland that push come to shoce you would just tell Scotland to make the best of a hard brexit accept damage

Btw the other shite i have picked up on is the fact you lot that claim to be remain voters and you wanna see the UK remain in the EU

Then have a cheek to say Scotland would be leaving the largest single market in the UK and the EU is small so why do you wanna keep in the EU then if is soo small?

"Again if Scotland is such a drain on England why keep us ?

Btw i love how what i said at the very start is been brushed aside as if its nothing

You all asked how would Scotland deal with being out of the UK and EU

Well Scotland could choose a Norway style deal to be outside the EU and remain in the single market and customs union

And considering Norway a country that has 5 million people and has as much oil as we do and they are trillions i profit why is it you believe an independent Scotland of 5 million people cant do the very same ?

Because Norway has oil that is economically extractable. Scotland doesn't.

Sorry, that's engineering for you.

Again if Scotland is such a drain on England why keep us ?

Also you also kept asking what will an independent Scotland do if it leaves the UK and is out of the EU well an independent Scotland could be in the single market and customs union correct ?

That will blow a hole in that aww Scotland cant survive out if both the UK and EU lmao

You not mad it me your mad cause Scotland has options and well saly England dont as the majority want to leave the EU and couldnt give a stuff about the single market and customs union and i willing to see the end of the Good Friday Agreement and the UK if it means getting brexit done

Seems you lot are more interested in telling other countries in the UK what to do and say rather than fix England and the way its sadly going down a hard brexit road "

If you read the past posts the Scottish people CHOSE to remain part of the UK in 2014.

Once again your solution is independence, you have been told before, if Scotland was independent, it would be out if the EU.

If Brexit means job losses due to being out of the EU.

Independence also means job losses out of the EU.

Therefore independence has the same effect on jobs as Brexit.

Once out of the EU single market you wish to compound the situation by leaving the UK single market and that would cost Scotland even more jobs.

It would be safe to assume that the impact of leaving the UK would be significantly worse than it would leaving the EU, p as Scotland trades four times as much with the UK as it does the EU.

The question is, which of the two is the lesser of two evils for Scotland.

Stay in the UK and take a hit from leaving the EU, but retain the UK single market.

Or plump for independence when we would be hit by job losses by exiting the EU and then even more job losses by leaving the UK.

The cost of Brexit will be high, the cost of independence will be even higher.

For Scotland, yes, the UK market is bigger than Scots trade with the EU.

Next question?

The economy of Scotland had an estimated nominal gross domestic product (GDP) of up to £152 billion in 2015. Since the Acts of Union 1707, Scotland's economy has been closely aligned with the economy of the rest of the United Kingdom (UK) and England has historically been its main trading partner. Scotland still conducts the majority of its trade within the UK: in 2014, Scotland's exports totalled £76 billion, of which £48.5 billion (64%) was with constituent nations of the UK, £11.6 billion with the rest of the European Union (EU), and £15.2 billion with other parts of the world.

I voted remain.

Most of Scotland's trade is with the UK.

Now you are gonna ask which has the biggest population therefore the biggest market.

The Scottish Executive's own figures have shown that Scotland's trade with the EU has almost remains static.

Scotland's trade with America has grown as a percentage higher than our trade with the EU.

Why do you mislead?

Scotland did not vote to remain in the EU, the people of Scotland voted whether it wanted the UK to stay or leave.

Scotland could not vote to remain or leave a member of an organisation that it is not a member of.

Your question is based on a false premise therefore it is worth the contempt it deserves.

I,ll tell you what was on the ballot paper in 2014, it was,

"Should Scotland be an independent country?"

Remind me, what did the people of Scotland decide?

Yes or no?

A clear result.

There was no ambiguity.

No wacky interpretation.

No assuming that the vote meant anything else other than what was stated.

It was a no, nothing more and nothing less.

I've shown you what it had.

Also it never had "it's oor pound too" on it.

It never had a currency union on it.

It never had oil would "remain constant at $110 per barrel."

It never had an independent Scotland would have seamless EU membership.

It never had a lot of things, that was the point of the campaigns.

The campaigns of both sides laid out their vision of what the vote would mean for either option.

What point, if any, are you trying to make here?

Your point it damn well moot

You are trying to use the "Scotland was not on the EU referendum ballot paper"

But cant see the big hole in that lol

Well i can say extra powers was not on the Scottish independence referendum ballot paper So why is that ok to offer extra powers when it was not on the ballot paper ?

I told you dont try and use that ballot paper pish as it makes you look silly

Scots represent 8.4 per cent of the UK's total population, but they generate 9.4 per cent of its annual revenues in tax -- equivalent to £1,000 extra per person. The remaining £624 is easily accounted for by decades of UK government under-spending in Scotland on defence and on other items which are not routinely broken down by region, such as foreign office services.

Second, there's the claim that Scotland's "bloated" welfare state could not be sustained outside the Union. This is nonsense. Including its per capita share of revenues from North Sea oil and gas production, Scotland's public expenditure probably does not exceed the OECD average and is almost certainly lower than that of the Scandinavian social democracies. The fact that the Treasury cynically refuses to class those revenues as part of Scotland's overall annual economic output inflates the level of public sector expenditure as a proportion of GDP relative to that of the private sector.

Are you insane?

What was on the ballot paper was voted on.

A clear question was asked on both and a clear answer was given.

Independence for Scotland was rejected.

And the UK will leave the EU.

That was what the respective campaigns were for, they laid out the consequences of each of the options.

It was the people after listening to the respective campaigns decided which vision they preferred.

I still can't see the point, if any, you are making.

The campaigns told us that was a consequence of leave vote.

The government in a leaflet delivered to every house in the UK told that.

The Prime minister told us that!

If every consequence of a vote was on the ballot paper it would be the size of a fucking phone book.

Who's single market are you talking about?

Is it the EU,s single market for members of the EU, and did we vote to leave the EU?

Christ, only a tit could think we could leave an organisation and still have the benefits of that organisation.

I know you are desperate, but your argument here is completely vacuous!

Your figures are flawed.

Including North sea revenue, Scotland contributed £10722 per person to UK revenue. Thats £312 less than the UK average.

Expenditure per person was £13175 per person in Scotland, £1437 more than the UK average.

Theres millions of tons of coal under our feet, that's a fact.

Another fact is that to get it out the ground is very expensive, so expensive that it is economically unviable.

There is no profit in it!

The same goes for oil in the North Sea, all the low hanging fruit has been picked, what they are finding now is fields in inhospitable areas and the infrastructure to extract this is very expensive and that too, like the coal makes it uneconomical to extract.

As long as the US has fracking and the Saudis continue to produce oil at a high rate the basic price will not rise.

The story of oil in the North Sea will go the same way as the coal in the UK.

You can't be in the single market unless you can fund access. So you need to demonstrate you can fund it before you can join it, so that takes precedence.

Unfortunately being inside the single market is a lot more complex than that, the EU insist on the four freedoms.

To be in (as opposed to access to) the EU single market would mean being subject to all the rules of the EU, which would fly in the face of the referendum result.

The result was to leave the EU, not be in a halfway house type partial membership.

Would the EU require payment for this?

Would the UK still be subject to the EU court?

Many would see this as undemocratic.

I would like to see how you could square that circle?

As explained above funding needs to be addressed before access can happen, so being logical, you need to address the funding issue first.

Is the SNP fighting..

It's doing whatever it can to frustrate the government, part of that strategy is to try and get involved in activities beyond its remit. I think they are doing this for the sake of the SNP not Scotland.

Can an independent Scotland..

As the Scottish people comprehensively rejected independence this is a non question.

"I will point out the SNP are fighting for Scotland and the UK to be in the single market and customs union

Anyone like to deny that?

But if Scotland votes for independence and they are out the EU they could be in the single market and customs union

Anyway wanna deny that ?

Please advise how this will be funded? Last figure I saw was 400m per year."

I already answered this earlier so why keep harping on about it

Is the SNP fighting for Scotland and the UK to stay in the single market ?

Can an independent Scotland be outside the EU and in the single market ?

You answer them and then we shall move on ok

Is the SNP fighting..

It's doing whatever it can to frustrate the government, part of that strategy is to try and get involved in activities beyond its remit. I think they are doing this for the sake of the SNP not Scotland.

Can an independent Scotland..

As the Scottish people comprehensively rejected independence this is a non question.

Those are my answers. So, please explain the funding issue as per my earlier questions.

Right this is good finally a pro indy supporter that has a different thought

So what powers wont we be able to do in an independent Scotland in the EU ?

Did you know right now the UK government have power over immigration as its reversed to them but they wont do nothing about it they want to con people into thinking its the EU fault

So what powers will the EU be ruling over an independent Scotland ?

Ok Kinky. You've ducked my deficit question. No answer.

How would an independent Scotland post Brexit propose to pay back it's share of the national debt, estimated to be in the region of £76 billion?

The EU referendum was not an election in the traditional sense, it was a rare event whereas elections are generally scheduled, there are exceptions to this.

You are conflating two different things.

We all accept general election results as we know we will be able to vote in another in due course.

So no one is saying you can't fight them.

Referenda are a completely different beast, for example, the first Europe referendum was in 1975, and the second was in 2016, 41 years later.

The same with devolution, the first in 1979 the next was in 1997,18 years later.

Referenda have a considerable time between them. Time should pass between them as we should allow the decision made to be made into law and acted upon, by all means they should be revisited, but not before it has even been implemented.

The national debt is just that...national and a debt. Scotland has a share of that and GERS acknowledges this fact.

Let me help you with the deficit question.

There are three ways of negating a deficit.

You can borrow and hope for better times ahead.

You can cut services and make cost savings in running your Goverment.

You can raise taxation.

Which option would an independent Scotland post Brexit do?

I think you don't understand what independence is just as the snp don't, we are leaving the EU and that is that am not sure what you are looking for from this as you and I are not in the government and can do very little if not nothing about the decision that will be made so the whole thread is just a waste of time

I have you a clear and succinct answer to that a few posts ago.

To repeat them

Trade without a Tobin tax

Vary corporate tax rates

I could have included borrow on international markets

(All the above about to happen unless veto in place)

One of the those things would be opt outs of VAT, the UK when the treaties were being made managed to get these opt outs.

For example, basic foods in the UK do not attract VAT, as do books, children's clothes and shoes.

Instantly all these things would be more expensive (20%), also Schengen is a requirement for new members too

I do think that you are putting the cart before the horse here, we do not comply with the rules required of membership.

We would need to set up a central bank and a new currency and have the reserves to protect it.

This would be expensive and risky.

I'm sorry but we have to take these difficult steps before even considering membership.

Interesting to note, the last new member of the EU took ten years from application to accession.

That response is one of the reasons you get so much flak, this is not how governments do business it may be fine for dodgy used car salesmen but not governments.

For Scotland to become an independent country, it will require an act of Parliament, there is no way the Parliament would accept that Scotland does not take a share of debt.

The only other route would be a unilateral declaration of independence.

This however would be fraught with danger, as the new country would be seen as a defaulter and a high risk for loans making them expensive.

Think what you are saying, bravado doesn't work on the money markets.

That will be our government, the government of the UK.

Try and be a smart arse all you want but they will demand that an independent Scotland takes a share of its debt.

What shade of party that was in government does not alter that fact.

Now you want to join the EU with no currency, central bank and reserves?

That is not possible, you simply do not understand how these things work.

Many people consider you a fool, you have just confirmed it for them.
