So far we have 4 medals in the winter Olympics at a cost of £7m per medal. If we win more the cost would obviously be reduced!

What would that have provided in the NHS or social care? As sport is a level playing field don't blame any party. This is a country decision - but is it wise - I don't know I am in the middle on this? What do you think?

The better part of bugger all!

But don't worry, once Jazza and John have nationalised everything we can have much more meaty discussions like the ones we used to have in the 60's and 70's; such as whether to payout £ billions on electrification of the West Coast Main Line, build 3 or 4 new hospitals, train more teachers, build 10 new schools or improve the electrical National Gtid: Sort won't even get a look in.

It inspires youngsters to take up sports so it's worth every penny.

The GBR female bobsleigh team actually got there and participated by crowdfunding.

I'm not convinced by funding the winter sports. Its never wintery enough here to train here.

I don't have a problem with other Olympicp sports being funded.

Can't please everyone.

I guess under a socialist government our team would be four times larger than it is now, all drugged up to their eyeballs in the aim to prove to the rest of the world how great we are.

And guess what, everyone would be paying for that!

Was this post brought to us after drug and alcohol fuelled binge the the night before. The incoherent ramblings and unconnected context leads me to this conclusion.

I've only ever voted for the green party.Ive never really looked into their policy on funding Olympic athletes.I was only ever concerned with our planets ecosystem.

Regarding labour and Corbyn who I assume your nonsense post was referencing. It seems slanderous to suggest he is in favour of drug cheats .But hey that seems the flavour of the month with the right wing press this week and those of limited mental capacity.

Actually it was meant not really to be left or right but is it good value for money? More economic than political - but when we win there is a feel good factor. As pointed out some athletes crowd funded to participate - is this the way forward? Not Corbyn or May but whats best for the U.K.?

I have never heard anyone try to devalue an Olympic medal by putting a price on their worth.

I feel we should not enter the Winter Olympics exept maybe in a couple of events as we are not a winter sports nation.

However there is no connection between money for our team and the NHS,most of the funding is private and sponsors, the country puts a very small some into this.

I get pleasure from all sport - and I think it should be encouraged. My point is should we look at funding differently? Maybe sponsorship from companies or crowd funding as some have done. I accept its not easy to compete at a high level and as suggested maybe we should stick at what we are good at. Sport has always been the first to go in the school curriculum when we needed to improve on maths science etc - no thought to the health problems which occur as a result!

You are, of course aware, that the money comes from Sport England/UK.... which is lottery funded. It doesn’t come from government coffers!

Yes but could better causes be funded from that fund? The "elites" get a far better deal than the "grassroots ".

Just about every large town and city has an ice rink and there are some great outdoor venues in Scotland, so we do have the facilities.

simply a drop in the ocean

want to look after the NHS and Social Care?

then we need to scrap overseas aid immediately

Two years ago, it was "scrap the EU to save the NHS"

Now the mantra is scrap foreign aid to save the NHS.

It's wearing a bit thin.

Parliament, if it wanted to, could find extra money today for the NHS. It doesn't.

That tells you all you need to know.

That's legitimate, for sure. Linking it to the NHS is just manipulative, however.
