I read some comments from both main parties - I think they'll have a tough job trying to convince Ireland and thus the EU, of their position. In any event, didn't they agree the opposite in the crisis December position, to get to the next stage of the EU negotiations!

Leaving the EU at any cost is not acceptable to the world and, probably, any sane minded person.

To give the other side of this argument. The real issue is not with most of the agreement but the political system that allows one party to suspend democracy. Ie we have been forced to have a system where the two largest parties both have to share power. If either of them pulls out, nobody else is allowed to form a government even though everyone else wants to. We have now had no government for nearly 14 months; the system needs fixing. Tweaks and patches have been made to the GFA over the last 20 years; it needs fixed rather than just glued together.

I note that Jeremy Corbyn has emphasised that the UK should remain in a customs union with the EU, so that the Good Friday agreement can be sustained, as well as other benefits.

But will the minority extremists, those wanting exit at any cost, be open to any sense? Extremist perspectives are generally inflexible and dogmatic.

I think that the DUP are playing hardball with Theresa May amd are just steadfast refusing to form any power-sharing until they get their moneys worth of assurances about the future.

Odd really because for most observers, Brexit is probably the catalyst that will speed up Irish reunification and that will put the dinosaurs noses out of joint.

Interesting that Irish ex ambassador Ray Bassett has broken cover and condemned his country's support for the EU against the UK as a "very big mistake". Seems cracks are starting to appear in the EU 27 and within Rep of Ireland's so called 'unity' and the phase 2 negotiations haven't even started yet.

Can someone give Centaur some straws, he appears to be grasping for some.

A person who used to work for the Irish government but is now a private citizen (who has no influence on any part of the Irish government, the EU, the UK or Brexit) is against the EU and pro Brexit.

Oh no....the EU has faltered, how will we ever manage to overcome this split now that Ray has come out as pro Brexit...oh wait, he was always pro Brexit, including in phase 1 when the Torys lost at every turn. Maybe this is actually meaningless. Shocker.
