The following is a pretty clear socialist case for leave- it us in response to an article that I haven't posted, the central thrust of which was that the only position for the left is remain. Since those views are echoed by many here, I thought it was prudent:

I can't click links from a phone. But I do think that the case should be about the deal that will be negotiated and doesn't have to be about left or right - though I can see a strong case for the left to reject the likely deal.

A fairer society for the majority is likely to be sustained from within the EU, without erosion of rights etc.

It still all boils down to the same argument as the right wing leavers. The EU is to blame for everything that is wrong.

When demonstrably in the case of the economies of Greece, Spain, Italy is down to incompetence by their own government, and an electorate which in general, like the UK one, did not give a rats ass about politics until things went tits up and stopped being rosy. And at that point they were happy to blame foreigners rather than their own ignorance.

Now I'm not and have never said the EU is perfect. For example I've been worried about TTIP for years. But OUR government wasn't shouting very loudly against it.

And this is where I get fucking angry. I wish people had bothered to take an interest in politics and what was going on, in anything like the numbers they did for the referendum and last election, but 10-15 years ago. Then we could have elected people with backbone, not in thrall to business. Not hamstrung by cunts in their own party. People who, driven by this engagement could have pushed for change and our own best interests.

But no, while they were happy and relatively well off, politics was just 'boring'. And incompetent politicians love uninformed, ill informed and apathetic electorates.

Then Brexit comes along and these unengaged people latch on to the first lie they are told, in this case written on a bus, and think that it's the only chance they've ever had to give the man a black eye. Conveniently forgetting all the elections they couldn't be arsed to vote in, or just put the cross in the same box they always did because it's what mum and dad did.

Fucking people. They are all cunts.

No, that wasn't a lie. What happened then was that you joined the common market. And that was it. It was the closer union treaties that were signed since then which brought about where we are now. But no-one gave a shit back then for reasons I described.

The vote to join was 65-35%. Significantly different to the recent one. As far as what we joined you are correct, it's changed considerably since inception - progress some would say and some like you disagree. However at EVERY STAGE of change the British government of the day voted in favour of the changes - the government's whom we elected to act on our behalf and in our BEST interests! I vote join in the 70's and we both come from the same region of the UK and we both have a right to our opinions. The NE was broken in the 70's the sad thing is it's still broken - but that's not the EU's fault! What would life have been like if we hadn't joined? Would the "sick man of Europe " thrived over the last 40yrs?

A common market is an official term recognised by the WTO. It's definition is:-

A common market (as opposed to a free trade area) has a common external tariff and may allow for labour mobility and common economic policies among the participating nations. The common market has the same features as a customs union, but, in addition, factors of production (labour, capital and technology) are mobile among members. Restrictions on immigration and cross-border investment are abolished.

It's simply another BRRXIT myth and lie that it was anything else other.
