Well the economy was performing and improving as well if not better under Obama (depending which points youre comparing to).

The tax deal wont have impacted the economy in a meaningful way (positively or negatively) yet but if it does have an effect we'll see it in the coming months.

The Dow has fallen by over 1,000 points in the last 5 days so its an ill timed moment to be praising the stock markets performance. Although it has risen overall in the past year by ~5,000 points it also rose by ~4,500 in Obamas last year too.

It takes between 6 and 18 months for any change in economic policy to begin to alter an economy. It takes a further 12 to 18 months for a trend to emerge (part of the reason that it requires 4 consecutive quarters of negative growth for an economy to be declared as in recession).

So as the only things of economic note Trump has done have come in the last couple of months, (other than effectively shutting down the EPA, opening government land to exploitation by the fossil fuel industries and removing federal investment renewable energy), it will be some time before we see Trump's true impact on the US economy.

Of course Trump will continue to claim credit for every positive piece of news worldwide while continuing to demonstrably lie daily.

Over 2000 provable lies in his first year in office! That is his record, that is what he will go down in history for. He is the first president that will be remembered as the man who could not tell the truth either on the campaign trail or in office about anything. Even tricky dicky managed a full term in office without attracting that sort of reputation.

Isn't it 2 quarters of negative growth, not 4?

"Isn't it 2 quarters of negative growth, not 4?"

Sorry my bad...

Really should proof read my posts before hitting the post button (but to be honest I am too bone idle to do that as regularly as I should).

Stock markets dropping like a stone at the moment - but that's just an alternative fact.

I posted this in another thread.

There didn't seem to be much understanding of what a graph was, what this data was used for or what it meant. Apparently all fake and biased. However, as this is the same data which Trump and his supporters are basing their claims in that's a little odd. Not surprising though

Please explain what Trump policy has actually had a direct effect on the US economy in the last year? It will be good if you can quantify it in some way too

Donald Trump has personally taken credit for the rise in the stock market a few times now, will he now take credit for the largest single drop in US history ?

Record highs are going to produce record drops, that's just the nature of things, letting it get this high is the real problem

It needs a big correction IMO, probably something like 7000 points!.

It will be interesting to see the policy if it drops alot more than that

Central

Business share prices are not potentially a reflection on good government.

Trump has completed tax cuts for the multi-millionaires who live in the USA, so they are very happy.

The shares will rise and fall in value depending on who wants to invest to make more money or sell to get their bonanzas. Can Trump really develop an economy that's stable and thriving? It's too early to know, as many gains are the result of Obama's administration still. Markets are fickle but national strength and stability are more than the price of shares that speculators are moving money around in.

Let's get one thing straight.

Share prices are overpriced and it's got nothing to do with trump or Obama.

Its central Bank policy and quantitative easing to thank and that's why it's not just America but Europe and Asia as well

Thing is American presidents normally keep well away from having any links from their policies and the stock markets but Trump being Trump he can't help saying it's all his doing while it was going well.

BUT.... if Trump is trying to claim the glory for the increases, he has to take the blame for the falls.
