Theresa May has indicated she will fight a proposal to give residency rights to EU citizens during the transition period after Brexit.

She said there had to be a difference between those arriving after the UK leaves and those who came before.

I think she needs to concentrate more on the finale arrangements rather than waist time on the minutia of the transition/implementation period. Does it really make that much difference if EU residency rights end on 29 March or 21 months later?

Tbh the EU is doing what it should do. Its flexing its muscles and seeing how hard we can take punches and how hard we'll punch back.

I personally have no issue with the EU citizens who come after 'brexit day' having the same rights as those who came before, up to when we 'officially' leave (leave 0.2). So long as british citizens can freely move for buisness and leisure in this transition period too.

We voted for nation state democracy, nation state democracy tends to involve two nations punching one another until economic mass, or specific trade resources win leverage.

A japanese friend of mine pointed out thatwith tge EU we very much have neither. He also suspects that with Japan we'll also have an import export deficit.

By law it should be.

All im saying is though for services such as this a british citizen will allow themselves to be undercut competition wise as they have to ensure they can pay bills, tax ect and save.

Less immigration wont change their price, it might just give a monopoly to those who do stay to run their services

You saw it with the conflicts in the balkans too.

All you have to do is change peoples in/out group preferences and suddenly the brian's neurocircuitry changes very quickly to turn a blind eye to suffering inflicted upon the percieved out group.

Not many pensioners will be able to afford year round health insurance to live outside of the EU.

The great attraction of retiring in the EU was health coverage in the years when it was needed most.

Missing the point Centaur. The reason retirees from this country have gone to the likes of Spain etc, is because of free movement, easy travel back to the UK and a reasonably strong pound.

No-one wants to permanently retire to a country where they have to emigrate fully and their money is worth less. Brexit has scuppered an easy retirement for many current and future retirees. But we will all be working til we are 70 soon anyway to pay for it, so the effects are further off for most.

Very true, we need EU nurses in our Health service and the produce growers need EU nationals for crop picking. Feel sorry for the British living in the EU as am sure that it will make it harder for them if our government make it not easy for EU nationals. We would like to retire to Europe sometime but thanks to those who voted Brexit that might not happen.

Besides I thought brexit was about 'showing people the wealth of oppertunity we'll have', all I'm hearing are doors being shut and oppertunity being snapped away from people.

The EU don't want May to be booted out. They have a vague idea of the what it is the UK might be groping for now. They don't want to have to deal with another clown later.

They've built a straw man for May to have a "victory" whilst they do a Norway or Switzerland deal which will mean that they won't have to deal UK refugees when our economy collapses.

I'm wondering what the Chinese, who politely suggested that we stay in, are thinking...

So the Maybot agrees to settle the issue of EU citizen rights at the last moment so that the EU will agree to move from phase 1 of brexit talks to phase 2. Now barely 2 months on she is reneging on that agreement. Anyone like to guess what the EU reaction will be to this? I'll put my money on something like this:

Now I doubt this will be said in public unless the maybot keeps pushing because like all Tories, it is party before country, while wrapping themselves in the flag and shilling that the left and Labour that place party and ideology above all. The burning question is how many of the electorate will swallow this meme again?

If i were the EU i would say veto any brexit deal until they get a cast iron guarantee that ALL EU citizens whether already in the UK or newly coming to the UK is guaranteed to be safe then they can move on

Its shocking that she has went back on her word EU citizens rights so it really does make it look like they can to move from phase 1 so it wont look bad on the Tories like their somehow trying when really they aint

Wake up UK they are wanting a no deal and hard brexit there for Scotland will say see ya later UK enjoy that hard brexit or move to Scotland and avoid that brexit mess
