"The cynic in me wonders if this is not just a ruse to tear apart two Party politics? If there is another referendum, the conservatives and labour will probably drive themselves to distraction with internal fighting - just what they don't need before the next election." TBH I've already come to the conclusion that neither of the two main parties are fit for purpose any longer. I'd be quite happy to see them both break up and the extremes of both spin of into electrical obscurity.

Strange he hasn't commented on what his mates said don't you think? " It will be a tough one for him. Probably biding his time to make sure there was no misquote or anything taken out of context whilst furiously trawling right wing websites and newspapers for a spin. Herr Farage’s Disciples have had their brains whipped today - it will likely take them a while to put things back together.

"I'm not in favour of referendum period. They never resolve or solve anything and, as Thatcher and Atlee said, are the tool of demagogues and dictators. Never again!" There won't be a 2nd referendum the government has already made a statement saying so since Farage made the comments earlier today. I can understand Farage's reasons for wanting another referendum as another win for Leave would in his view 'shut the remainers up for good' and settle the issue once and for all. I'm not so sure though, Remoaning, whining, bitching, whinging wankers like Blair and Clegg still wouldn't accept it if the country voted Leave for a 2nd time they would still try to sabotage the Brexit process. Besides too much water has passed under the bridge now as Conservative MP Bill Cash said on sky news earlier today, Parliament voted with a huge majority for a referendum and the decision was given to the British people. The country chose Leave and Parliament voted with a majority again to trigger article 50. Article 50 has been officially triggered and now the EU Withdrawal bill is well on its way through the Commons. It recently passed 2nd reading stage with only 1 ammendment added which was a Tory ammendment (all the Labour, SNP, Green, and Lib dem ammendments were rejected). Bill Cash said all of this work would have to be undone through acts of Parliament which simply now will never happen. As Jean Claude Juncker head of the EU even admitted a couple of days ago that Brexit will happen now and will not be reversed no matter how much opposition remainers kick up. Even the EU has resigned itself to the fact the UK is leaving on 29th March 2019. So I can understand Farage's reasons for saying what he said but it's just not going to happen.

"So he's now agreeing with the majority of remainers that another referendum should be called " I am sure Farage is a better judge of the pulse of the nation than you will ever be. We know what you think would happen but Farage is far smarter than you could ever dream of. Like him or dislike him he keeps proving it

"Everyone who voted leave will be wishing we did have a second vote, when the country is in ruins short of nurses in the NHS, Produce growers wanting Seasonal workers. City jobs Gone as all moved abroad. Be able to thank farage for what he has helped to ruin. " I don't for one and of it did happen(which it wont)I would still vote to leave as I am more set on leaving than I was when we had the referendum. The reason is largely to do with the sad nasty attitude of remainers they discust me

Only 16% in the poll said they wanted a 2nd referendum. Over 60% said they wanted the government to get on and deliver Brexit.

"I listened to Farage's LBC broadcast where he spoke about a second referendum. And for the second time in a week I found myself agreeing with him and his thinking. I for one did not think he was advocating a second referendum because he has changed his mind, but that he is advocating that the leave side prepare for a second referendum and force the government to make provisions for one should the leave deal be struck down by parliament. Incidentally, he now accepts, after his meeting with Jean Paul Juncker that this is highly likely because we will not get a comprehensive trade deal giving our manufacturing and services free access to the single market. Further his justification for his position is based on the fact that the pro remain lobby is still visibly active and still campaigning while the leave lobby is now effectively nonexistent, with its former leaders now part of the government and bound by the Cabinet and Ministerial code of collective decision making and responsibility. Regardless of my views (which most here will know), I think Farage is right in his thinking and for the sake of democracy his words should be heeded and acted on." But isnt that what most people have been saying apart from theb most ardent brexiters ?

"But isnt that what most people have been saying apart from theb most ardent brexiters ?" Not really. Most remainers have been saying we will get a bad deal. And some have been campaigning for a second referendum after we know what the deal is. This is not the same as most of the country saying either. In fact it is just as disingenuous as the leave campaign claiming the majority of the country voted to leave. The fact is this issue has so fractured the country that many on both sides are unable to hear what the other side is saying. In fact I am reminded of listening to the older generations talking about the Germans and Japanese in the 60's. There is the same sort of deep rooted hatred for the 'enemy' and refusal to engage with anyone that has anything positive to say about them that I witnessed in those that fought and were held prisoner by the Japanese especially.

They used to insist that they would refuse to buy anything Japanese! They'd struggle in today's world. But I do agree entirely with your post. We had a poorly organized referendum with no checks and balances, with no power to block false statements and as we are finding out now the dirty illegal tricks pulled by UK organizations & foreign governments. I wonder how many 23 yr old students get £700k worth of investment! A total sham and controls need to be in place and rigourous - no good after the event it's too late then.

"So, supposing we do get another referendum . . . and, for arguments sake's the result is once again to leave the EU, how many of the remainer's on here accept the result? " I would think most would. However there needs to be checks and balances in place. Anyone who lies is suspended from making anymore contact with the public. If an MP they lose their seat. Immediate intervention is needed - it's too late after the event. Any foreign "bots" closed down too.
