"David Davies has just agreed to make sure that the agreement covering the Irish border (and i think the commitment to pay what we owe but awaiting further clarification) will be legally binding. Seems like some things are decided before everything is decided." I understand that this is a consequence of threats made by the EU last night and today. They were saying that the words coming out of the UK meant that the next phase of negotiations would be pre-empted by legally binding undertakings before any kind of discussions take place. Looks like our buccaneering Brexit team shot themselves in both feet, twice. Top tip Mr Davis - don't be a dick, try to be a bit clever.... ahhhh.... oops.

"They should stop holding the negotiations in Brussels. As it's the Irish border which is the problem, they should hold it in the Guinness factory. Anyone who comes out sober, gets sacked. " Wait... wait... are you suggesting they try and organise a piss up in a brewery....? -Matt

"Well its not that Davis has agreed to make it legally binding, it was legally binding and hes now been forced to admit it. The EU are now writing stronger language for the agreement so that theres no way for anyone to equivocate." The agreement last Friday wasn't legally binding. It's only since David Davis said it wasn't legally binding on the BBC Andrew Marr show on Sunday that the EU have piped up. The EU in response to David Davis comments said yesterday, "We had a gentleman's agreement". Utterly laughable stuff from the EU that they think they can hold anyone to account with a 'gentleman's agreement". LOL. Just how naive are the EU? Since yesterday the EU has gone from saying it was a 'gentleman's agreement' to now saying we must make it legally binding before moving onto the next stage of the talks. Seems David Davis and the UK Brexit team knew it wasn't legally binding and the EU were the naive ones who thought,... oh its a gentleman's agreement, we've shaken hands on it so the UK will stick to it. No wonder the EU is in such a mess with these morons running it.

No one is reneging on any agreement though and no one said they would go back on it. David Davis just made a statement that it wasn't legally binding. 'Gentleman's agreements' are the kind of thing you have with 2nd hand car dealers or some bloke down the market you shake hands on a deal with. It's ridiculous the EU could think something as big as a country the size of the UK leaving the EU could be left settled on a handshake and a 'gentleman's agreement'.
