Some people would want to remain in the EU under any circumstances, Yanis Varoufarkis is one of those people. By saying what he said on Question Time he made himself look like a weak whipping boy, a victim of bullying who doesn't have the balls or backbone to stand up to the bully who keeps pushing him around in the playground.

I agree he is a legend, though not for that line combined with those interpretations of events.

He is just generally very well thought out, and incredibly able to put himself in any person's shoes then follow it up by sincerly seeing the problems they face and the solutions they are deciding between.

Have you read his books?

Have you not read his books or read about him. He agruably has more balls and tact than mr brexit.

For example by recording internal meeetings within the EU where it seems to be the 'not done thing' he probably pissed of some individuals who are recketeerers in the institutions of the EU far more than mr farage ever could.

naive - talk is cheap but then your never going to be in that position are you?

I suggest you read his book " adults in the room" - a factual account of what happened to Greece when they tried to negotiate. Actually its looks like a dummy run for the brexit negotiations as far as tactics are concerned. We will know the outcome only when the talks are finished. Or perhaps you can see into the future?

Indeed, as the new leader of ukip Henry Bolton pointed out on Question Time last night, part of the uk's outgoing contributions to the EU will be spent on installing free WiFi in Greek hotels. No wonder Yanis Varoufakis wants the UK to remain too as he'd like Greece to continue receiving UK taxpayers money through the EU!

Spain Portugal France

To be fair Yanis Varoufakis was backing remain back in 2016 so no surprises there

Interestingly though, he predicts the demise of the EU and the collapse of the Euro and holds the EU partly responsible for the crisis in Catalunya

In a few years time Greece with have a better economy than the UK....the EU will not fail in making sure in that....then they will become like Ireland a net contributor and help other countries up the ladder....look back at history at some of these countries in the EU and see were they used to be

Youre really as thick as a plank arent you? Yannis was ousted/left his own party. He currently spends more time in Britain than Greece. What im trying to say is, do you yhink this is a simple case of 'he wants our money to rebuild greece' which I empathise with. Or do you think with his background in politics and economics he is looking at what is likely to ensure western democratic societies actually survive.

Odd post as really ukip should be on programmes like BBC Question Time a lot more! Considering ukip won the last MEP elections in the UK returning more ukip MEP's than Labour and the Conservatives why shouldn't they be on Question Time. Besides having the largest number of MEP's in the UK, ukip also have 7 elected members to the Welsh assembly and 2 elected members to the London assembly.

Complete nonsense. The fact is if you've ever been a member of the BNP or involved with Britain first you are not allowed to join Ukip. There is more racism in the Labour party with increasing anti semitism since Corbyn became leader.

If ukip are to survive they need MP's and influence in the Commons, until they achieve that they are less relevant than even the lib dems.

Reality is you dont get influence until you are making policies or holding them to accound. UKIP is doing neither of those.

Sadly UKIP did have far more influence than their democratic mandate ever suggested.

Like it or not it's the Tory fear of them that led to the situation that we are in.

I disagree. Mr Cameron feared a few marginal seats being lost via UKIP sucking up votes.

If he'd realised that there wasn't really a need to pander to them to secure a win, then the euroskeptic side of the Tory party wouldn't be holding a loaded gun over the party.

In effect Mr Cameron made a tactical blunder which led t UKIP getting a few months to boon and bust their political influence, that influence ended in the 2017 GE whereby they failed to transition from EU politics to sovereign politics.

As such the euroskeptic tories are the new UKIP - that actual party is currently going to have to do major rebranding.

"Yanis Varoufakis - legend.

What s guy.

Common sense overload.

Take away line... ( considering that Greece was allegedly attacked/humiliated/disgracedvby the EU said.

“I am a Remainer”

Anyone whose country receives such a huge contribution from the EU, is always going to be a Remainer!

Indeed, as the new leader of ukip Henry Bolton pointed out on Question Time last night, part of the uk's outgoing contributions to the EU will be spent on installing free WiFi in Greek hotels. No wonder Yanis Varoufakis wants the UK to remain too as he'd like Greece to continue receiving UK taxpayers money through the EU!"

Maybe it’s a different WiFi thing but the Eu have voted to help areas install WiFi in public places. Slightly different than the inference made by saying hotels.
