"It speaks as if a small minority represent the average. " Given that this is a response to the Harvey Weinstein situation, the reports of abuse by other men, and the 'me too' social media thing (I already knew quite a few women who have experienced abuse or harassment, and this number rose depressingly as a result of 'me too') I'm far from convinced that it is a tiny minority. Regardless of the exact numbers of men involved, raging at an opinion piece, however OTT, and not at the abuses which provoked it, seems like misplaced priorities to me.

"Have you heard about the effect bad news has on how people overestimate the actual likelihood of events. For example, we hear about murders in the news everyday but the probability of being murdered is low. Let's ignore a relative blip on our timeline and take the messages of the article at face value for a minute? " But it's not a blip on a time line. It's women sharing their experiences when they haven't previously done so. The 'blip' is hearing about the experiences. When women stop sharing them, it doesn't mean the abuse has stopped.

" It means when women express their anger towards men " But being more serious for a moment - this is exactly what I'm getting at. Articles like the above are creating (and you are justifying) a culture of anger from women towards men. Did you mean to say some women and some men and add a caveat of "and vice versa" .. Or are you the stereotypical white knighting buffon that drinks this koolaid?

You poor triggered snowflake, that must have been really hard for you to read. "You're just deflecting from your sexism here stove. We are on the Internet, and white knighting is particularly apt in your case. If you don't accept my correct t then tell us - Why are women justified about being angry at men? " So...white knighting... the only reason a man can possibly have to not be as anti feminist as you is because he thinks it will get him laid? Kinda sexist towards men, really... As to why women are justified in being angry at men - the article that has so upset you lists some reasons that seem fine to me, some of which I've observed happen first hand.

There will always be men abusing women and women abusing men and men abusing men and women abusing women because some people are naturally cunts. It's very difficult to tackle and painting all with the same brush because of the actions of a few cannot possibly be the solution. I don't think you are a cuck or a mangina or whatever.... But what has shocked me over the years, particularly the last few years, and ladies from here. The more you get to know them and talk properly to them...the more have been assaulted , abused and mentally scarred by men in the past. It's a scarily high percentage. If there was a "me too" thread on the forums...for lady members who have genuinely suffered such I wonder how quickly it would fill up? As for the article...some of the language is a joke (Guardian journalists aren't known for their linguistic skills)......but the intent is simply logic and sense.

There is good common sense - albeit basicly insulting to any decent man by spelling out the obvious within the article - BUT it's peppered with the madness of a raving loon with gems about always believing a woman (paraphrased the one about trust) and something about talking over women (not just people) and it left me thinking why strong, equal women can't speak up for themselves.

That's her topic. Your response of "but what about male victims" falls completely outside of what she's writing about. She has no obligation to cover that issue. And wouldn't a man be better to write about male victims anyway? If you feel strongly that male victims aren't given due attention (not an unreasonable stance, it could be argued) then write to the Guardian to suggest an article on that. Or research and write one yourself. Anything that's more productive than whining that a woman isn't expressing herself exactly to your taste.

" You're really asking me why a woman might be better placed to write about abuse of women, and men about abuse of men? Uh...experience of being each of those genders, and how abuse fits in that specific context? Do you imagine that men and women lead identical kinds of lives? It's not to say that each gender can't write about the other, but 'what it's like to be a male victim of abuse and what can be done about it' is surely more informed when written by a man? And your first response is just a red herring. My mention of the 'me too' thing was for context in outlining my thoughts. It doesn't somehow mean that the subject of the article was 'an in depth look at the me too hash tag The subject was 'how men can treat women better'. Explain why that should cover abuse of men?

Might it shock you to know that it's not a case of one or the other? Probably. There is a great deal of work done in studying the factors that make people more likely to engage in violent crime, and then using that to try and prevent it from happening. Now, given that we known that laws alone don't eradicate the crimes they legislate against, and that we acknowledge this and try preventative measures as well, perhaps you can see how this might be applicable to the subject at hand.

"The truth is I'd love to design a propaganda campaign to get men and women back to normality. Peace love unity " Back to normality? Has society ever been normal in the sense of true equality between the sexes? Women have always struggled to be seen as equals to men. Did men have to march for their right to vote? Certainly not white privileged men. Sexual abuse has been happening forever towards women, but not to say it doesn't happen to men too at the hands of both men and women. Most men are physically stronger than most women and a lot of men with power in society and their field tend to abuse their authority over women. Just because you hear about it now doesn't mean it didn't happen at the time it happened. Do not dismiss a case of sexual abuse, that just blames the victim for X, Y and Z and totally disregards the behaviour of the offending party. Misogyny... I've heard that word more often and has been applied to many instances more than misandry. I think huffing and puffing at an article because it does things to you that make you uncomfortable and to see from the stand point of a woman and crying out for the stance of men is your prerogative, but means you are part of the problem of society that puts up with inequality between the sexes.

"There's so much sexism and insulting assumptions about ordinary men" You say this is sexism by a woman, not what set of circumstances would prompt this person to write this column? Society is set up to give men what they feel entitled to. You need to be aware of this to challenge and to make an equal society. Which is better for everyone. You think just a woman chatting shit? Let me put it another way. One of the examples you post as part of your rant is "Don’t send pictures of your penis unless she just asked for them." You think it's everyone knows it's not socially acceptable to do this. Bloody sexist women! But really think about this. You have this on your profile "Single girls preferred, the odd couple, zero men" You have on your summary who you want to meet. Surely you don't need to emphasise this? But you do because you get the old I know it says you are straight but I will send you a cock shot and a meet request anyways. Doesn't matter what you say, you are on fabswingers and they are entitled to treat you as meat

"Trying to frame this as simply being "divisive" and wondering plaintively "why can't we all just get along" is the kind of argument has always followed every rights movement. It's as dull as it is nakedly disingenuous. Come off it.... There's no rights movement left The laws of the land are good. Yes, laws do indeed stop things happening. This is why there hasn't been a single murder since we outlawed it. LOL again... Just tell murderers to stop murdering right Lol, indeed. Not particularly no The subject is a bollocky article from an irritating bat I do wonder why you react this badly to an article for those who want to be better people." There are significantly better self improvement manuals out there

" Women have always struggled to be seen as equals to men. Did men have to march for their right to vote? Certainly not white privileged men. " You are making the error here of seeking retribution for the past while living the present - holding old grudges doesn't do anything positive. The vast majority of men in 2017 act with the utmost of respect towards women but yet you paint us all with an erroneous big white boogeyman label. I want everyone to be peers not rivals. Just think about it.

"I’ve read this through and shake my head in frustration at the comments. A journalist writing an article is batshit crazy? Give me a break. She wrote the piece to draw attention to a topical issue and highlight behaviours prevalent in today’s society. When was the last time anyone walked down the street with a bag of Truprint photos of their bits handing them out to people willy nilly. Or walking over to a woman and feeling her up as part of your opening moves. Chances are you’d get a shoeing from a few of them. The internet age allows anonymity and breeds off that. Unwanted dick pics in your inbox / feed are a sign of the times and are wrong on any level. Yes even on here. Still amazes me that people believe no somehow means yes, that a badly d*unk person said yes to sex, two people are paid differently for the same role, I could go on but I think you might see where I’m coming from. When I held my last 9-5 role I asked for the payroll details of the department I headed. The highest paid sales person was a woman. The 3 salesmen all trailed behind her. Among the 4 support staff the guy was the best paid and the women paid anywhere to 10-20% less. They all did the same job but had different experience, qualifications and skills. It’s very difficult to pay the same wages as I found out but I was the only senior executive pushing to narrow the gap. Everyone else thought I was mad... I never heard if it went ahead or not as I left the firm shortly afterwards over an issue I would not compromise on. Anyway my final points are these. Good / Baseline manners start at home. Treat people the way you want to be treated and be nice to all. Even the pricks, they deserve it too. I support the Guardian and that’s all spun out of the brilliant pieces Amy Lawrence writes, 30 years of watching the world go to shit and to support proper investigative journalism not the owners agenda. Good news doesn’t sell newspapers. Never has, never will. PS - MeToo " Thanks for your post - it shows that these issues are complex and not one sided.

Someone who is not interested in a given topic won't read an article about said topic isn't a deep insight. Does this mean the article should not have been written? Hardly. " You still can't rationalise that the people who are pricks to women aren't go to heed such an article " This just betrays a fundamentally shallow understanding of the issue being discussed. 'People who are pricks to women' aren't all evil recalcitrant sexists who cackle about their abuses like super villains. We have a society with casually sexist attitudes, and otherwise perfectly decent men and women grow up in that and perpetuate this without thinking it needs to be challenged. Articles like this can open eyes. They can also help those who have been abused find courage that they are not alone. And even if they achieve nothing at all, they don't do any harm other than to the feelings of sad men who can't be bothered to understand that they personally are not being attacked.

Supplying common sense with a tone of original sin (read the last one again...) and labelling societal problems as men only is the issue. There are also sexist remarks roped into the more sensible stuff which read along the lines of trust all women and men are always wrong and at fault. It's sexist bile from a fragile ego. " Given that the article focuses on men and their behaviour, why on earth would you be expecting the author to spend time catering to your ideas of what they should and should not be writing. " There are also sexist remarks roped into the more sensible stuff which read along the lines of trust all women and men are always wrong and at fault. It's sexist bile from a fragile ego. "You're just deflecting from your sexism here stove. We are on the Internet, and white knighting is particularly apt in your case. If you don't accept my correct t then tell us - Why are women justified about being angry at men? " Women (the generalisation of the gender) have always been angry at men and probably always will. I don't condone any form of sexual harassment (the key word being harassment). I don't condone any form of sexual bullying (the key word being bullying). I do expect people (men and women) to stand up for themselves - if you are offended by spoken words or acts you have to say so - when it happens. There should be positive outcomes from the current sexual harassment media storm, but, I think the way the stories, buzz words and endless side line debates are going it will not achieve any great change. The main issue of men using a powerful position in a business to harass and bully women (and men) for sex is being lost in the side line debates about what women wear and how they aren't represented in the boardroom. Inappropriate touching - you get groped patted on the ass or rubbed against should be dealt with by a slap. Seriously slap that person. If more of this was done it would be better for society. This would probably create more equality in the long run than the current media storm.
