Iraqi Kurds are expected to vote for independence in a referendum on Monday. After all they've been through recently and not having a homeland for a 100 years.Today

30 million Kurds are scattered over Iran, Turkey, Syria and Iraq.We could see a Kurdistan on the map as they are expected to vote yes .

Northern Iraq ,where it has always been. They already run a regional government. The have the battle hardened peshmerga who have been spanking IS and control the oil region.

Of course turkey is pissed and baghdad doesnt want to see a break up of Iraq. The US wants them to wait. Its always been on the cards and they've fought for it.

Surely this is fair enough ? As is a Palestinian State and a Jewish one is Israel !

You can't manufacture States that's why a lot of wars are caused !

Roll on England , Scotland , Wales , Northern Ireland and Cornwall

Countries don't like giving away parts of their territory. Territorial defence is the prime raison d'etre for the nation state. It is more important even than the lives of its citizens as it will send them to fight and die to defend it.

True and the iraqi borders are recent, 100 years ago the Sykes-Picot pact that led to the boundaries of the modern Middle East has failed. Its time to redraw the map.Israel also should choose a two state solution.

The Turks are reserving the right to use all measures, including military strikes, against a seceding Kurdish state in northern Iraq.

Erdogan is moving away from NATO and Europe, finding greater understanding of, and sympathy for, his fascist tendencies in Moscow.

Add Trump's inept policy of enraging and alienating Iran for no good reason, in order to please his Israeli hoodlum best friend Bibi, and the region becomes more dangerous by the day.

Just as well that there are no other tinder-dry conflict flash zones elsewhere around the globe!

Oil! is why turkey and iraq dont want freedom for the kurds who have been waiting for independence for 100 years .

According to OPEC data, Iraq’s oil reserves total 142.5 billion barrels. An independent Kurdistan, within the borders specified by the referendum, would own approximately 28.5 billion barrels of oil, putting it among the top oil producers in the world – just above Nigeria.

Israel did choose a 2 state solution but it was rejected by Yasser Arafat and the Palestinians. Many of the Palestinians don't want peace and will not rest until they see Israel destroyed.

Mahmoud Abbas speaking at the U.N. General Assembly called for the preservation of the two-state solution. This week!

“The two-state solution is in jeopardy, we cannot as Palestinians stand still in the face of this threat,”

He went on and said.“Our choice is the two-state solution on the 1967 borders,” Abbas said, “and we will grant every chance for the efforts being undertaken by President Donald Trump and the Quartet and international community as a whole to achieve a historic agreement that brings the two-state solution to reality, enabling the state of Palestine with its capital East Jerusalem to live in peace and security side by side with Israel.”

There is more to a yes no resolution. We should all know that. Read "Getting to Yes" which talks about real negotiations.

You can look to many places on a world map...find a border drawn by a rule. (British rules usually) and you will find trouble!

south west , continental

Did Turkey receive some rather hefty payment from the EU, In return for migrant favours? do Turkey still want to join the EU?

Are the plans still going ahead?

Are Turkey beginning to show their true colours?

Good luck to those Kurds, they have liberated a fair few moslem and Christians along the way in the fight against extremism. Particularly those all female Peshmerga units! That's true girl power!

The turks and the iranians are being assholes.Do you know who is first to recognize and welcome an independent kurdistan. Israel! They have a long history with the kurds going back hundreds of years. The Kurds also smuggled out a 1000 jews in the 70s from iraq and israel has never forgotten. One of those kurds who helped fleeing jews is now president.

The Israelis empathize with a stateless people who have experienced genocide. They help by training the peshmerga and mossad provides intelligence.

Oh and yes the all girl peshmerga army units are hot and ruthless.

The kurds are a fragmented people.30 million people without a state.

They'll come togeather in a new Kurdistan. The British created iraq .After the fall of the ottoman empire.Which was when the middle east was last altogether under one empire unfragmented.

.

The longest straightest border in the world was drawn up by British rule and it's been perfectly fine for hundreds of years!.

However you can draw lines across India to Pakistan and it's not so perfectly fine

Seems to me to be nothing but another excuse for bloodletting in that region. What is it about the Arabs? They just don't seem to ever get tired of warring with each other over 'differences' be it religious or tribal. You would think at some point they would get sick of being constantly at war with each other and look for a way to unite.

But I guess its lucky for us they don't because if they did then the rest of the world would have an even bigger problem with the Middle East than we do today.

Sad to see, as they gave us so much help against Isis.

They gave us so much help in the fight against ISIS? It was their fight to begin with. We were helping them, not the otherway round.

All those SNP politicians etc who rushed to Catalonia to act as 'observers' or show solidarity with the region in it's quest for independence seem to have missed this one for some reason.
