So yet another key piece of Trump's legislative agenda is completely sunk. He doesn't seem to be achieving many of his stated policies does he? At this rate I'm not sure he is going to get any laws passed before he gets impeached. Great news though for the millions of Americans who would have been stripped of their healthcare though.

Last I heard - he was prepared to just let Obamacare to fail and then look to create a replacement. All because it bears the nickname of "Obama" and he is fixated on destroying Obama's legacy.

Its bizarre how many Republicans are determined to pass this bill even though the Tepublican appointed head of the impartial CBO said that it will increase premiums, decrease health insurance rates and decrease quality of health insurance. Patient advocacy groups dont want it and health insurance companies dont want it.

And the law itself is hugely unpopular with the people so it looks like a loser politically speaking.

Its almost as if theres huge tax breaks for the wealthy in the bill and that they want to cut health spending to give even more away to the 1% in later tax cuts.

Saw a rather stark figure on what the US tax cuts really mean...

A person earning $25,000 (£19,178.50)PA will get a $40 reduction in tax.

A person earning $3,400,000.00 (£2,609,500.00) PA gets a $937,700.00 (£719,684.75) reduction in tax.

While the Trumps, Kosh brothers and Walton family are set to share somewhere between $800,000,000 (£614,000,000) (low estimate) and $5,000,000,000 (£3,937,500,000)(high estimate).

At least we all get to watch how a serial corporate fraudster managed to turn his daddies million dollar seed into a multibillion dollar empire by destroying peoples lives by means of corporate bankruptcy and fraud.

But don't worry America your president is making you hate again...

My worry is he has the same sort of thing planned for us and May will hand him and his chums the NHS after brexit because she will have no choice if she wants a trade deal with Donni the Deal Breaker.

It's tragic that turkeys will vote for Christmas and Thanksgiving.

The Affordable Care Act was damaged by the Republicans pre-launch, as they insisted on so many amendments - but obviously still better than what Trump would replace it with.

Watch out UK - more of the elite's plans to smash the welfare state, state services etc are heading to you. You will pay more for less, so a few can get richer.

The OP said that Trump wasn't achieving many of his stated policies so surely that leaves the thread open for posters to comment in his other policies. On his other policies, as Shag said there has been less traffic over the Mexican border since he became President. His travel ban from the 7 countries on a list Obama compiled has also been put into place and upheld by the courts now. Trump is slowly starting to get his programme of policies put into place in the face of unprecedented opposition.

from the Republicans..

compared to what Obama was dealing with Trump should have had several of his key policy promises either through both houses by now or pretty near so..

6 months in American politics is a long time, more so when its entirely possibly that he may not make a full term..

his approval rating is the lowest of any President since 75..

but hey Centaur keep ignoring the facts and stick with Breitbart, its more comfortable there...

" That is right, the policies will eventually go through, some of them will take longer time."

Yeah that healthcare bill will go through eventually. Sure Trump called the House version mean. And yes the Senate cant even get enough votes to start discussing the proposed bill despite Republicans having a majority. And sure even if they did get to a point that were able to discuss it they'd then have to get enough votes which looks even more unlikely. And even if they did pass something they'd have to reconcile it with the House version into something both houses agree to pass.

And thats with the public hating both versions of the bill and Trump distracting from his own agenda by pushing the Russia investigation to the front all the time.

Not to mention that his tax reform was based on gutting the spending on healthcare so now thats not happening they cant do that the way they wanted any more.

And the debt ceiling is going to be hit soon so they need democrats to sign off on the wall which they will not do under any circumstances.

And this time next year we'll be into the mid term election campaigns meaning little will get done and Trump could be facing even further reduced majorities or possibly one branch led by Democrats.

Times running out for Donnie to get things done. 6 months in and no major legislation passed when the Republicans hold all branches of national government. #sad

Breakdown of 115th United States Congress.

But to get them confirmed the Republicans have had to change the conformation voting rules from 60% for, ensuring at least some bipartisan support for judicial appointments to a simple majority vote so that they could push through the conformations. That I expect will come back to haunt the GOP in future years.

The opposition is coming from the Democrats and the establishment Republicans who had their noses seriously put out of joint when Trump wiped the floor with them in the primaries. Trump was not the establishment Republicans preferred choice, and they threw everything at him to try to defeat him. Trump really upset the established order of things in the USA on both sides of the house and plenty on both sides are still not happy about it and doing all they can to undermine him, disrupt his policy programme and get him out of the White House altogether.

Not even close to accurate.

Democrats have already said theyd work with Trump on infrastructure and have worked to confirm most of his cabinet. They're obviously not going to work with any Republicans in repealing Obamacare, cutting social services, tax breaks for the wealthy or the travel ban.

Republicans of all caucuses want to work with Trump because they need to. The problem is the tea party and mainstream Republicans are completely at odds. Susan Collins (R) from Maine is against cutting healthcare levels and quality for her constituents and even voted against a symbolic repeal Obamacare vote.

Now that Republicans have to actually write actual law they have to deal with the fact that Obamacare has been actually very successful. Over 22 million more people have health insurance, personal bankruptcies have been halved and people are getting better healthcare.

Because tea party politicians dont care about the healthcare of their constituents and mainstream republicans do they cant make a deal that satisfies both. And Trump cant make a deal and doesnt lead on legislation because he doesnt know how.

Collins was a no from the very start (Any R capable of winning Maine is going to be a very liberal conservative at best!)

Merkowski was going to be a no because Alaska was one of the very few red states to take the expanded Medicare money to help states pay for their poorest health coverage... and repeal without replace would have crippled her state

McCain is the shocker.... and in the end he may have taken the bullet that saved the Republican Party

If it had gone thru... it basically would have been an 18 month suicide note and they would have been crushed in the midterm

"McCain is the shocker.... and in the end he may have taken the bullet that saved the Republican Party

And this is the crux of the issue.

I am torn on health care, if I'm honest. Part of me finds it really sad that America's attempt at some type of health care reform may well come to an abrupt end. It's also a bit sad that so many people will lose the health care they need.

Then there's the other part of me. The part that wants the republicans to sink their own ship. The part of me that knows when I go back to the US I'll always have a job that provides me with good health insurance - which leads me to the conclusion, knowing that so many of the people who will lose health care under the republican plans in fact voted for those very republicans, that perhaps people should have to live with what they voted for. Part of me wants the republicans to succeed in destroying the ACA and forcing those who voted for it to live with the consequences of their actions.

Then, in the next big election, we can see where the chips fall.

Get where your coming from..

Trump seems less than interested in the effects of his actions and their impact on people both users of this and the Republican party in the short to medium term, and more on having some sort of bizarre 'legacy' in being able to say i trashed Obamacare therefore i am a success..

he will step down i think after one term if it gets to that point in his first term..

thus far it seems that he is only interested in being able to feed his fragile ego..

Republicans just arent going to get anything done this term.

Youve got Donnie with no clear policy goals on anything but immigration and cutting his own tax rate. Who will sink his own good news stories with some bizarre behaviour or tweet that dominates coverage.

The mainstream republicans who are actually closer to what the majority of Americans want and care about the results of the legislation and then the others who just want to "win" by passing anything and the freedom caucus who dont care about their constituents and just want to blow up government.

Finding a path forward on anything important without Democrat votes is going to be near impossible. And in a years time we're going to be in the mid terms and theres a very strong chance that Republicans wont control all 3 branches of government after that.

Donnie might last another 2 years if hes lucky but his legacy will be Russia and thats it unless theres a major turnaround.
